I saw this on a YouTube E500E restoration video.

What is the component lying over the EZL :?:

Jim.

Looks like some sort of electronic vacuum regulator/check valve. Possibly for headlight adjustment or some other auxiliary function. Dave?

It's a non-stock item... can't tell from the photo what the function is. I'd like to find out though. Wonder where those hoses disappear to. Too large for headlight adjustment. Maybe related to NOS or LPG?

Definitely non-stock. That bracket is an MB-type bracket (used for 560SEC ignition wiring bundle on the driver's side, attached to the intake manifold) so it looks like it was professionally done, whatever it is.

I think it might be an aftermarket stand-heating system, used in cold climate countries

I am positive this is LPG installation, just like mine.

Interesting. What is the advantage of the LPG system? Increased fuel economy? More power?

Here in europe LPG add-ons or conversions are quite popular on big engine cars/suv's. It doesn't reduce consumption but saves costs as LPG is half the price versus gasoline. If anything,,,they say you lose a bit of power. Right now in the UK gas prices are astronomical - equivalent to $10.00 a gallon!! Hence, my beast is rarely used.

Main benefit of LPG is cost. But there are drawbacks as well. A lot of Aussies have also done LPG conversions over the years.

Cheers,
Gerry
