UPDATE: Car for sale by new owner in June 2015. Thread title updated.

Relatively rare color combo, pearl black (199) with cream-beige interior (275). I think most of the black cars tend to have black or gray interior, no?

VIN: WDBEA36E8PB839933

Update: Price reduced to $11,500 in April 2012.

Well maintained car in outstanding mechanical condition - used as weekend driver (3rd vehicle). All service records for last 7 years, including 90K and all regular services. Tasteful upgrades include AMG 17" 5 spoke alloys, Bridgestone RE760 summer performance tires (only 3K miles on them), wood shift knob, smoked tail lights (not painted), AMG exhaust tips (chrome dual tips), partially blacked grill, built in radar (old technology). Original grill and tailights come with the car. This car will be at the Deutsche Classic German Car Show in Fleetwood PA July 9th - http://www.deutscheclassic.com Service Receipts available by pdf (email) for serious inquiries.

Indeed a mushroom/champignon interior is a bit unusual for a DB199 car. Very cool !!

Anyone going to be at this show to check out this car in more detail?

Cheers,
Gerry

I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone knew this car? It is still for sale...which worries me a bit. I've been looking for a "no stories, well-sorted" 500e for a while. Thanks!!

This car is still for sale on Autotrader. The price has been lowered to $11,500. I spoke with the owner and he emailed me copies of work done by the previous owner between 2004 and 2008 (85k miles - 121k miles). Bills totaled >$28k. Work done included: radiator, ball joints, front and rear shock, rear accumulators, power steering pump, heater assembly box r&r, HVAC actuator replacement, evaporator, compressor, condensor, blower motor and speed regulator, exhaust from cat back, plugs, wires, caps, rotors, brake pads and rotors (3 sets!?), wiring harness, and miscellaneous smaller items. Car was hit in front at some point (clear title), so the paint work isn't perfect, some rust spots. Current owner has already purchased a Z3. 500 was more of a freeway car, he says, and not quite what he was looking for. Well, I am looking for a daily driver. Someone has spent a lot of money replacing some very expensive parts, so... Thoughts? Suggestions?

Dan

Wow, sounds like a real "hard luck" car to have that much work done at that small of mileage. That being said, it's a lot of work and seems to be quite a lot of the right stuff. Evap was done, wow. A couple of other important needs by that mileage would be the motor and transmission mounts, front and rear shocks/struts, and what I call the "chassis rubber" -- control arm bushings, idler arm bushing, drag link, tie rods, steering shock, sway bar mounts, subframe mounts, diff mount, etc. The mileage + the age will kill most of that stuff (in addition to the motor mounts if not done) and the car will feel like a brand-new car once the suspension/chassis rubber is done.

Hate to see you purchase a car with rust spots; for just a few grand more I think you can purchase something that is going to have somewhat less mileage on it and not be banged in the front, etc. You pay now, or pay later, your choice. My choice is always to go with the best car I can get, less problems & nagging costs down the road.

BTW, I have yet to see ANY E500E in any mileage/condition that doesn't immediately need $5K worth of maintenance. For lower-end cars, you're talking $10-15K of maintenance. It's wiser to pay $5K additional up front for a better car & a great ownership experience than sink $15K into it to get the car where you'd have the $5K additional car up front.

That's always been my philosophy with MBs and it's never done me wrong.

I've seen lots of other E500E owners get a low-end car on the cheap and sell it after a year or two because it's bankrupting them and so they lose interest for the next shiny object.

My two cents.

Cheers,
Gerry

My 2 cents... sounds like a good deal with all that work done do it. Throw him an offer, I'm sure he'd like to see it gone for winter...

The black/tan is very sharp/classy. For 10 grand or so...it'd be a great DD IMO. Alot of life is left in that car...

My 2 cents - ask him to take it to Rex Carle in Downingtown for an inspection. Rex is very good and can give you thoughts on the extent of the rust as well.

Anyone interested in the history of this car I may be able to fill you in . . . 'twas the owner from '09-'12 (affectionately known as the "Birdsboro years" in the attached autocheck). For information - please email me (I'm not terribly adept at PM's - I assume you can see my email address in my owner profile ?)
Also - Gerry - I now have a purchase agreement with the owner of the Jackson MS car (same color combo ! !) so hope to be officially back in the fold in the next few weeks. I had a serious case of seller's remorse ! You can update the status of that car as "sale pending" (awaiting Bill of Sale to arrive Tuesday). Doug

Ernesto has a set of them - he offered them to me a while back. He has an 18 inch set up and a 19 inch set up. He's a great guy to do business with - a real gentleman.

I just bought a set in 18''! They are being refinished. I had to pay the "buy it now" price as 50 some people were watching them. Hard to find wheels in the perfect offset. Ernesto is a certified wheel junkie and seems like terrific individual.

Thank you both Chris and Drew, I appreciate your kind words. Coincidentally I sold this week the set of 5 CARLSSON 1/6 wheels Chris is referring to. They were all 5 wheels same size 18x8.5 ET40 with machined "diamond cut" concentric finish. It was a new set, never mounted or used. Another MB enthusiast was interested on them and met my asking price. I am going to stay only with staggered sets of wheels by the moment. The CARLSSON 1/6 is a very nice wheel design and period correct for our 036s.

i still have the 19' staggered set with brand new Michelin Tires for sale if anybody is interested!
