There are some issues with this car, including a near-100,000-mile odometer rollback. More information from one of our members soon.

Cheers,
Gerry

I remember this one too! The odd photos are the giveaway. Might have been posted previously without the VIN. Probably the same owner, guess it didn't sell last time. Looks like it may have the correct 500E Euro lights. Bummer about the mileage discrepancy though.

Notice how the seller is STILL posting the car for sale with the INCORRECT mileage!!!!!

The seller is AWARE of odometer rollback. He claimed that it was performed without his knowledge, prior to his purchase of the car.

Regardless of whether or not you believe that the seller WAS not aware of the rollback, he is definitely NOW aware of the rollback, and yet his newest ad still shows the incorrect mileage.

I, personally, spoke to this seller when I was shopping for a 500E, and I, personally, informed him of the rollback found via Carfax. So I, personally, know for sure that he knows. Others may have informed him of the rollback, also, so he definitely cannot claim ignorance as of approx mid-to-late July.

Buyer BEWARE!!!

What's odd is the seller gave me the carfax with the rollback clearly listed yet the ad doesn't reflect this.

Why is it that you always see odometer rollbacks coming out of New Yawk and New Joisey?

Curious, isn't it....?

I would hate to think that a buyer who is not a member of this forum, and therefore hasn't seen this thread, will be misled by the ad and buy the car under the assumption that the mileage is accurate. Hopefully the seller is disclosing this information, verbally and upfront, to potential buyers.

That is why we operate this forum, and also why I maintain my database of "sold" cars along with facts and opinions about them. I can't tell you how many people I have saved (or helped save) from making expensive mistakes over the past 8 years, but it's got to be at least a couple of dozen folks. I'm talking about providing "past" information about cars that have had "cleansed" salvage titles, mileage discrepancies/rollbacks, prior (undisclosed) accident damage, previous modifications, and so forth. Much of this off-forum, of course.

And conversely, information on the history of good cars as well.

Information and knowledge are power :)

Cheers,
Gerry

It's great that G takes the time to do what he does and keeps it current.

But ya' know what? ...welcome to the world of used cars; get used to odometer roll-backs, cleansed salvage titles, undisclosed accidents and the like....especially with cars of this vintage and lineage.

At least the .036 circle will have the facts on many of the USA cars due to G's diligence/dedication. 3 cheers for Gerry !

HI Guys, I can speak to the Euro Lights as I owned this car for a few years. The way I remember it is JIMBO, from this board, installed them (with me mostly watching!) in the parking lot of Lime Rock Park in about 2002 or so.

I am currently in the market for a 500E and my son brought this to my attention. I checked the VIN and, BAM, it used to be my car. (Jessup, PA years)

Big Dave

PS. This car was at the (in)famous 500E meet at Tackman's in about 2004, along with Michael Curcio and the RennTECH 6.0.

Very sad indeed. There are a ton of cars coming out of NY/NJ with hurricane and/or flood damage.

Actually, insurance estimates are upward of 250,000 cars damaged....buyer beware !!

Add in VA, PA, CT, MA, and RI as states also with a slew of 'Sandy' cars for sale. Nobody wins.

Waz up Dave? This car is a far, a wicked far cry from when you had it ! I DO remember installing the euros too...it was in between a HPDE run group wasn't it ?
