Cool !

...not many green with black interiors out there.

09-23-2011, 08:31 AM
Wasn't there a high-miles, green-with-black car, in Florida a year or so ago? Listed on BenzWorld or MBWorld classifieds, IIRC. Possibly the same car? Of course I can't' find the old listing now. IIRC it was dirt cheap ($2k?) due to some issues and sold very quickly. Would love to get the VIN, to verify if the black interior is original.

I remember this cheap green car with a bad tranny from Miami. It's a '94 though.

Yes! That was the one I was thinking of. Probably not the same car, as you pointed out. Thanks for finding it!

I know its old, but I feel like adding what I know. The car was serviced by a very good friend of mine (whom I bought my 500E from), and it suffers from a shot self leveling system and other mechanical grimaces.

Fun fact, this owner also has a W124 coupe with a 5 Speed transmission that my friend had swapped :D

Yes this is my car. Not a Florida car. And the black interior is original. I had it checked out at Kearny Mesa and they gave me teh print out. The guy who helped me was very suprised too because he had never seen a black interior in a spruce green 500e. Lil_dz33 is correct, I also own an e320 coupe with a manual transmission. The reason I am selling the 500e is because I want to concentrate on the coupe. The transmission swap did not go as cleanly as expected. It should have been a bolt in with the exception of a modified drive shaft and flywheel. But the shop that LiL_dz33 is refering to, did a bad job on the flywheel modification and now the transmission makes a noise when I let out the clutch.

The reason I will trade for a clean 400e or e420 is because I still want an M119 but don't want too much of a fixer.

09-18-2012, 08:05 AM
Planning to put an M119 in the coupe, huh?

Stevester 500E
09-20-2012, 07:47 PM
That would be nice, but it is too expensive. An easier route to a coupe with higher HP would be to put a C36 engine, but the last time I test drove one I thought the engine was kinda loud. I am starting to really like my 500e, so if it doesn't sell, I will restore it. But I would trade for a clean E420 with low miles. I have driven e420's and they have enough power.

09-21-2012, 07:16 PM
Sorry to say, but an E420 is just a "regular" Benz...no Porsche pixie dust to speak of. So far the only item I like from the E420 is the FGS valve body. And if looks are brought up in a conversation...the E420 would just be out of place next to the 036.

Up for sale is my 1993 500e. Might consider a trade for an fairly clean 1994/95 e420.

Pics of car can be seen here:

Pics of interior can be seen here:

Originally purchased as a fixer or for a possible transplant into a 300ce. To an enthusiast, this is a moderate project car. Below are most of the issues, I am sure you can nit pick and find more.

I have had difficulty uploading pics, but I think my profile pic should be up now, that is my car up for sale.

Paint was repainted previously with cheap paint and clear coat is peeling, but body is straight.
Front bumper has some peeling paint (original pain on bumpers and cladding).
Antenna goes up half way,but I have a new replacement antenna mast.

Fairly clean leather, one some tear at drivers bolster as can be seen craigslit link on 500eboard, parts for sale, "black seat set for sale".
Drivers seat lifts up at and angle.
Sagging headliner.
Broken center brake.
Peeling vinel on side pillars.
Dim cluster lights. Have replaced some, bit I will include an entire e420 cluster.
I might be able to include an upper wiring harness.
Intermittent AC. Recently had compressor replaced. Probably electrical issue cause when it works it works good.

Engine and Tranny:
Tranny shifts smoothly. I believe a small leak at lines where the attatch at radiator-probably need to be tightened.
Engine runs good. Might need chain rails and belts.

Don't have a code reader but had issues passing smog. Has after market tiny cats. But the issue might be egr, etc. not sure. I can try to find the smog test when it didn't pass the first time.

Self leveling needs attention.

It's a started car that runs good. Probably for the mechanically inclined and a pick your parts hunter and gather

I have a 1995 E420 white/parchment, but I also have a complete black interior from a donor car. This car has about 195k miles. I will consider a trade, but will need to see your car in person.

Can you send pics of the e420? I'd like to see your car in person too.
Does your 1995 e420 have the wiring for the heated seas, or are you going to wire it from the donor car along with the black heated seats?

My 1995 E420 does not have the winter package so it has neither the traction control or heated seats. I did take the seat heater control unit from under the back seat, but due to time constraints, left the wire harness for the seats with the donor car; this harness can be purchased at the dealership.

I've added the supplied images, let me know if you have more you would like to have added.

Per my PM, I'm seriously interested in your car, Steve... I'd plan to restore it.

Jeff, you wouldn't part it out, would you...?

Self leveling needs attention.
Could you elaborate on this? What exactly is the issue with the SLS? Leaking? Shocks rattling? Etc..

If I could work a trade for my white 1995 E420 I would drive this car not part it out.

I'd plan to restore it.
So, how large is your garage?

Ugh. Not large enough, unfortunately...

Apparently not :whistling2:

04-11-2013, 01:13 AM
Come on guys buy this thing , it is a steal for the 500E without rust and staright body , interior appears to be in a decent shape (I would use OEM MB leather foam to make leather flat instead of this Armorall stuff).

I'm working on it!

I was just wondering if you guys can recall the lowest priced non-salvaged title 500e you have seen advertised for sale-regardless on condition and mileage?

Good question. This example could be near the crown holder.

Someone has to pull the trigger on this, I mean, are you guys waiting for it hit $3,999? This would be a nice resto project, and could even have a bright future away from the scrap heap.

There was a black 500E in the northeast that was advertised at $5k on the forums a few months ago, it sold for $3050 on eBay (had rust, but clean title, 180kmi). The "Butler Tube Amp Car" sold for around $5k circa 2010 (~178k, clean title). Karl got a 94 E500 in surprisingly good shape last year for under $6k (160kmi, clean title). The all-time killer deal that I can recall was a high miler (200K?) on eBay about 5 or 6 years ago, looked very clean, sold for something like $3500!

UPDATE: I forgot about the burgundy car that recently fell victim to a fire. I believe the owner of that got it for a bit over $2k (before it burned up); which was probably the best 036 deal ever.

There have been quite a few advertised in the $6k range. It's hard to compare because while asking prices are public, actual sale prices are usually not available (eBay being the exception).

This particular green car is a bit of anomaly because the condition is below average, even compared to the usual "low priced" 036's. But it does appear to be fixable, given enough time, $$$, and TLC!

04-15-2013, 01:51 PM
$1800 for a 285K mile car from VA (from an auction) ....pretty much completely worn out/done/paint shot but straight for the most part with only a little bit of rust in the normal places; it ran OK tho.

The car has been converted to track-only (which is better than being parted IMO) Actually it's quite cool in flat primer black now sans interior...let me see if I have pix of it.

Yep, what Dave said !! (fixable, $$ and time) I'd say in the not-so-distant future high mileage junk-yard dawgs will be the subject of complete restos , or converted to other uses (cabriolets , pick-ups or track rats).

Well, sounds like I might just end up parting it out. Or, I would like to get serious suggestions on how I should restore it.

Can we start a Vote thread? It would be really interesting to see what the 500e community could create
I would like to do moderate modifactions perhaps, but nothing over the top.
I am open to ideas. I would like ideas based on a few catagories:
1. Mechanical upgrades: Brakes, exhaust, engine, sway bars, first gear start, etc
2. Interior: Should I leave it stock blk, go with a two tone, custom cushions with a little more of a bostler look, tripple stiching. How about replacing the wood trim with a brushed stainless steel look, or replacing it with an exotic wood?
3. Exterior: Custom body kit/slight modification to the bumpers, skirts (nothing to wild), flat glass tail light lenses, and of course-color? What color should I paint it? Green has actually grown on me a little. But after seeing Glen's silver e500, I am tempted to change the color. I am even thinking of changing the front fenders (slightly)-as cools as they are, I think I would like to ever so slightly widen them and the rear fenders as well-tastefully. How about getting rid of the cladding with metal? Any carbon fiber on it? How about wrapping the car in vinyl-what color?

Any Chip Foose-type talent? Any sketchs on a custom front and rear bumper are welcome. I have some ideas already. I would like to keep the same aero dynamics, but maybe make the bumper slightly modern (slightly). Sketchs on fenders would be greatly appreciated too.

I would document all progress. Being that this car 1s a high mileage one and it will never be a collector car, I don't mind making modifications.

I would like to have the car finished by the end of the year, but I would be happy if I got it complete by next spring.

04-16-2013, 12:40 PM
Be patient, it's only matter of weeks until someone shows up and takes it.

04-16-2013, 01:23 PM
If you're willing to drop $10K to $15K into it, then I would:
Leave the body stock, repaint in the original color and do the cladding and bumpers in the same color for a monochrome look. If you want, mold a spoiler lip into the front bumper before painting. Replace the headlights with euros, new fogs, replace all the missing trim, S600 style grill insert and paint the surround body color too. Est: $5000

For the interior, leave the black seats but fix the trim issues and refinish all the wood. Est: $2000

Replace all suspension links/LCAs/strut mounts/sway bar bushings/wheel bearings/etc. Upgrade to 18" wheels and fit Silver Arrow brakes with SS lines. Replace front struts, SLS accumulators, and fit lowering springs. Est: $4000

Engine should get new caps/rotors/wires/plugs and a good powerwash. A first gear start valve body would be nice but not a necessity. Est: $1000

That puts us at approx: $12,000...a bit less if you shop around. And when all is said and done, your car will be worth about $12,000 max.

Just my opinion...

04-16-2013, 01:59 PM
I've already posted my thoughts on parting it out. The car should be restored, while that is still an option.

Restoring it will be a money-losing proposition, regardless of it it's kept stock or highly modified, even if you do all the work yourself (i.e., just paying for parts). Glen's numbers are in the right ballpark, around $10k to get it mechanically sound and looking nice. Figure $15k+ if you have to pay shops to do the work. Upgrades will add to that cost substantially.

If you really like the 500E and want to make the investment, it could be worth it, but you'd never get your money back out of it.

04-16-2013, 02:26 PM
Hard to tell what to propose when we do not know your goals or budget for the car. Restoration will be quite expensive based on bodywork and paint alone. I'd guess $6500 or more if it is straight with no rust.
As a value point, I paid $13.7k for a car that had a recent full respray in silver with Euro mods, excellent interior, 18" AMG wheels and a low mile engine (60k-ish) with rebuilt transmission. My car is nice, but won't be a collector item due to chassis miles ~ 188k (my guess).
I spent another $1500 or so replacing nearly every suspension part to refresh the ride and handling. I'm into that for dozens of hours of labor and a few more with Glen when we did the alignment.

If you paint and do bodywork, you could save yourself a lot of money, but spend hundreds of hours of time.

04-16-2013, 02:44 PM
Steve you know what they say ...... Its FAR better to buy a car someone else pay to restore and lost $$$$$ on than to do it yourself.

What ever you do DON'T part it out.

Sell it, buy a lower mile better condition 400E/E420 as a much better starting point, a great daily driver and mod it as you like.

04-16-2013, 03:08 PM
Steve you also wanted a coupe right ?

Buy this 300CE and put some 500E fenders on it, then turbo the motor if you want more power.....

This is a well maintained car I have fallen on hard times I must sell 84000 Miles
Everything works inline Six Cylinder leather enterior straight body only problem is the clear coat is pealing a lil
2500 obo I will work with price please call 310-461-6352

No, this is Stevester's car.

03-11-2015, 09:27 AM
No, this is Stevester's car.A-ha. I see. :scratchchin:

I think it would be a great project to buy an M273 and install that drivetrain in this car, or perhaps an OM606.

03-11-2015, 09:31 AM
It's definitely a project but if you like the color combo, it could be a nice car...with a bunch of TLC and $$$$, that is.

03-11-2015, 09:52 AM
No, this is Stevester's car.

Odd, he has put it up for sale many times now right ?

Needs a better add and lost more photos

03-11-2015, 09:59 AM
OK, so the car has been up for sale in 2011, 2012, 2013, and now in 2015?

What about 2014?

With the sellers permission, here are some pictures I took a couple years ago. I believe he has addressed some of the issues since these were taken.
