I have just found out that my cluster has failed. I am being told that I can only use a NEW instrument cluster for my 2003 e500. Does anyone know if its possible to use a old one? or is it required to use a 1700 dollar new one??! Thanks:omg:

Unfortunately, you have the wrong generation of E500.

This board is only dedicated to the 1991-1995 Mercedes 500E and E500 (W124 chassis E-class) models, and we do not deal with the W211 chassis E-class cars here, which are two generations later than the models that this site is dedicated to.

I think you may be best off asking your question over at the PeachParts, MBWorld or Benzworld forums.

That said, I would think that a used cluster from a German parts wrecking yard, or a local wrecking yard in your area, would be a much better alternative. However, the electronic odometer would have to be matched up with your mileage, and this would likely take a certified specialist/shop/MB dealer to do. But no, you definitely shouldn't have to pay $1,700 for a new cluster.

Cheers,
Gerry

Try calling Beckmann Technologies, they repair a Number of late model clusters. We rarely have to purchase new.
