I'm in the process of refreshing my suspension. I was thinking that while I was at it, i would upgrade my front LCAs to the later style ones in case I decide on a brake upgrade.

I was about to order the suspension bits from parts.com but decided to check their pricing of Autohaus AZ. The price differential between the late style at Parts.com vs Autohaus was huge! $364.80 @ parts.com for OEs and $172.18 @ Autohaus for Febi's. That's a $192.62 difference or $385.24 for the pair. Tough to ignore.

Is there a way of telling where the Febi part is made? Has anybody used Febi made LCAs?

Thanks!

I recently came across a set of these wheels for the 500E. They are Prodrive GC-07Cs and are already discontinued. They come is 18x8.5 ET35 and 18x9.5 ET30. The rear fitment is fine but the fronts are not quite flush to the fenders that you'd need 5 or 10mm spacers to make it appear so. I've first seen them in Japanese E500Es. They're forged and pretty light...18-18.5 lbs for the rear 9.5s....
Aye? Nay? Yay?

Hi guys

I have strange situation with my transmission. First thing is that i can not drop it to first gear no matter what.
Putting it in D or 3 results start normally in 2'nd speed but full throttle + kickdown switch will not give me 1st gear. However i found that when i put selector lever in 2 then even half throttle will give me 1 st gear start easily. I checked kickdown switch and b-switch and both give +12V on kickdown solenoid plug if pressed. Bowden cable checked and is adjusted as should.
Recently I took VB off to change K1 spring kit and then this started. Could wrongly inserted selector lever in VB couse this? I need to drop pan and check this but maybe someone have a theory what else to check and what to look for. Before transmission worked fine so its definitly something with VB but what??
Thanks

HOW-TO: Replacing 126 fuel cooler foam insulation

It's pretty common on 126 cars to have the foam insulation that surrounds the fuel cooler pipe disintegrate and harden with age and engine-bay heat....

It's pretty common on 126 cars to have the foam insulation that surrounds the fuel cooler pipe disintegrate and harden with age and engine-bay heat. Yet another underhood "soft part" that goes bad over time.

Fortunately this is a cheap and easy replacement. My V126 provided a nice model to borrow from in replacing this insulation. It appears, given that the foam (which is also cracked and hardened on my 80K-mile 1990 V126 sedan) is of the "Armstrong" brand (a US company), that this insulation has also been replaced at least once on that car.

In any case, it is rather easy to source the insulation from a hardware store such as Lowe's or Home Depot in the USA. There are several types of insulation for ordinary pipes, including white-wrapped fiberglass insulation; polyethylene foam (usually gray in color); and black flexible rubber insulation. All of these types have an adhesive strip on the mating surfaces that provides an excellent seal when stuck together.

I chose insulation at Home Depot that is black rubber and intended for 1" pipes, though the actual diameter of the fuel cooler is closer to 1.25 inches. The foam is flexible and pliable enough that a 1" inside diameter foam piece can and will work nicely for this application.

First, I perused the insulation on the V126 560SEL's fuel cooler:
IMG_1178.jpg

Next, I perused the bare fuel cooler in the C126's engine compartment:
IMG_1180.jpgIMG_1181.JPG

After that, I measured the length of the piece of insulation on the V126. It came out to about 6.5 inches.
IMG_1182.JPG

Looking over the 6-foot piece of insulation I purchased from Home Depot, I measured off a 6.75-inch piece (just for good measure), and cut it. I just used a pair of Fiskars sewing scissors that I keep for shop use, to make the cut. The foam is extremely soft and pliable.
IMG_1186.JPG

Next, I compared the cut foam piece to the V126 piece, and also to the C126 bare fuel cooler. Then I measured the space where the fuel inlet and outlet hoses attach to the fuel cooler (around 1.5 x 1 inches) to make another block cutout for that area.
Size: 555.3 KB">IMG_1188.JPG

Then, I carefully mounted the insulation to the fuel cooler housing, removed the adhesive strips, carefully pressed the mating surfaces together, and bonded everything tight.

I was offered a car some time ago, and the owner had it repainted in the same colour, with the only difference being that the original colour was alcohol based, whereas the new one was water based. The colour looks a bit different now, but maybe that's just because it's actually new (I don't mean it looks brighter or fresher, but it has a different tone somehow). Is it possible that the colour is actually slightly different?

Well anyway, I still don't understand that, I would just have polished the car. Does that not make the same result? And what do you guys think, is the colour still "original" now or not?
I don't know how to search on the engine number in the EPC, but out from the ingnition module A013 545 64 32 it comes from a W140. The car has no damages, so due to the high milage, 326.373km, it has probably got an engine or tranny breakdown.

I only had my old mobile to take pics, so they are not so good. Despite the bad condition it has some parts which could be worth to save. Inside: cluster, memory seat switch, comfort sun shades, steering wheel maybe. Outside: swaybar (checked the rubber bushing PN), brakes, maybe I should take a look inside the ECU, the servo pump could be something. The wheels are not so interesting, but they are OEM with 225/55-16, the rims are at 5 on a 1-10, need to be resprayed. (The airfilter box and all other plastic parts were missing or toast). Forgot to check the exhaust, and couldn't see anything underside anyway.

What is the el.unit back in the luggage, picture 7??

What else should I look for?
Is it worth looking closer on the engine at all?

Yesterday on the way home from work I pulled up first to a stop light. It's one of those intersections that widens out to two lanes for about 1/4 mile before and after the light, so people always slide into the right lane to get around as many cars as they can. So I'm sitting there in the left lane and a beautiful gun-metal gray Dodge Viper roadster pulls up in the right.

It's ON! :boxing:

I casually slip the shifter down to B for first gear start (something that hadn't been working for a while - the cure turned out to be a simple fuse replacement) and hit my traction control defeat (it was plenty warm outside for a good hook-up).

After waiting for the left turn arrows and hoping no idiot makes a right on red into our way, the light finally turns green and I slam it. :3gears:That Viper didn't know what hit him! I took him by about 10 car lengths before he had to merge back into the left lane. It was SWEET! :victorious:

Oh - did I forget to mention he had a Hyundai in front of him? :run:

I've owned my 560SEC for 10 years now, and I never knew this part existed until I got my 560SEL. It's a small plastic cap that fits over top of the front shock mounting bolts. You NEVER see these plastic caps on 126s. I guess they just get put aside and lost over time.

Anyway, I ordered up a pair for my SEC on a recent parts.com order. They had one in the US, which I received with the order, and the second one had to come from Germany, which it did about 5 days later. Finally installed them on the car tonight ;)

I don't know what the potential is to pull chicks with this part, but I don't think it's very high because it's underhood and rather blandly colored.....

The part number is: 126 987 09 45
List price: $3.20; parts.com $2.28
You will need two of them.

Here are a few photos.

Cheers,

I can't believe I am writing this after I heard so much good publicity for these guys.

Garage Van de Failed it in Lokeren Belgium (you know the place) showed unprecedented levels of incompetence last Tuesday.

It all started 2 weeks ago when I phoned to purchase an Automaic transmission from them, I was informed by the manager that it is available (still fitted on a car with 60,000km), I agreed on the price they were asking and i asked for the cost of shipping to Germany, they told me they will send me a quote tomorrow. Three days went by so I phoned and asked, they said they are waiting for the shipping company. 4 days afterwards I phoned and he said He doesn't want to ship it and that I should come to pick it up!!...I told him I will arrange for the shipping and will send him the info, but I needed the dimensions. I didn't get an E-mail with the information.

So I gave the information to an acquaintance who lives in France who would pick up the transmission from Belgium, I phoned the parts yard and told them that someone will pick up the transmission and from them, they told me they will dismount the transmission from the car, and pack it ready for pick up early this week, my Acquaintance phoned them a day before and confirmed the pickup, he drove 6 hours to get to them and when he arrived they told him they haven't gotten the transmission out yet and that he has to wait 4 hour !!!
After waiting for sometime they went to hoist the car in question, only to find out that it has not transmission!!! the manager started making phone calls and then he said his brother sold the transmission 6 months ago and didn't tell him.. what kind of excuse is that?!!!

A word of warning to everyone thinking about buying parts from them. This guy's word isn't worth spit. I had high hopes and was expecting an excellent long term business relation with this company, Fortunately my loses were in the hundreds rather than tens of thousands (size of future business that I was intending to do with them).

What is the world coming to! can't find anyone trustworthy

When I operate the drivers door lock the passenger window in the rear behind the driver moves. Also overnight I would find the window had lowered all on its own.

I recall a similar post a few months ago but could not find it with a search.

This did not happen in the heat of Oman...we have had rain virtually every day since I returned to UK so, like me, the car is acting up because it's has seen too much rain.

I do not know if the car, an early build, has any cunning door and window locking system that is going wrong.

Any advice please?
