    SOLD: 1992 500E, Spruce Green/Cream Beige, 133kmi, $11,500 (Orange, CA)

I have decided to sell my 500E.

    VIN = WDBEA36E4NB796429

Here is a link to the ad that was posted here a couple years ago for this car: https://www.500eboard.com/forums/show...t=spruce+green

It is in largely the same condition but now has 133,815 miles.

I have performed the following services during my ownership:
    - New spark plug wires
    - F8DC4 spark plugs
    - BOSCH caps and rotors
    - New Oxygen sensor
    - Engine oil/filter

Obviously it needs paint but mechanically it is in great condition. I have lots of service records. Engine runs nearly silently with no ticks from the valvetrain. Transmission shifts as it should. Car pulls strong and shifts crisply. Upper and lower engine harness replaced in 2008 with a Sept. 2007 dated part.

Here is the list of things I was going to address:
    - Paint
    - Headliner(sagging)
    - floor mats(carpet is clean but the mats are worn out)
    - Center console wood(cracking around switches)
    - Radio only works on AM. Remote tuner needs to be refurbished.
    - Front passenger window regulator gear stripped.

This is a mechanically sound driver that needs some cosmetic love. I bought the car hoping to address these items but simply don't have the time. I hope someone will pick this great car up and give it the attention it deserves.

Asking $11,500 with the EVO II wheels or $10,500 with the stock wheels.

    Thanks for looking,

    Erich

    Gee Brock,

Your not far from me and I didn't even get a chance to meet you. Sorry to see your selling already but I understand. Time is a precious commodity and you soon realize how little you have and sometimes it's hard to prioritize what's important in your life.

It it looks like someone will get a great deal. It shouldn't last long.

    Good luck w/ the Sale!!

I know Terry. There were grand plans for this car but it's been sitting around for a year and a half with nothing being done. I would love to keep it but I have other vehicle projects that require my attention and something has to go.

Someone will get a great car that they can build value into and enjoy.

Project is the right word. This car will need an easy 10-12k right off the bat to make look presentable. I figure $4-5k for a paint job, $2k per seat to replace worn out leather, $2-3k for miscellaneous things such as cats, etc...

Yes, the car will require some work. Anyone looking at this ad should know that.

In reference to the cats, they were replaced summer of 2015.

New seat covers are available from GAT for under $1k/pair delivered, which would make the front seats look brand new (plus DIY labor, if so inclined). You could end up under $20k with new paint & leather and have a car worth at least that much thanks to the low odometer reading.

    GermanPower,

You have a choice, buy a fixer like Brock's or spend $20 to$25K and get one in better condition and it still might take $5K to get it right. The mileage is pretty decent on this one. It could be checked out at LEISTUNG AUTOHAUS in Garden Grove one town over. Matt Stockwell can line out what needs to be done. No one better on E500Es. 714-741-2010

    Hi Terry,

I am in Massachusetts. Right now I am having a hard time finding someone that is willing to paint it. They tell me that they just do collision and insurance type work and willing to paint the whole car. I need to find someone that uses german paint such as Sikkens etc...

Yes I know. That's why I am keeping it the same color. The more I look at it the more I am falling in love with it. I didn't realize how nice of a color it is in person.

I am having a hard time finding a body shop willing to paint the whole car. It seems now a days body shops are switching gears and only wanting to deal with collision insurance type work.

are you going mono chromatic? If painting the bumpers and cladding, and not the doors, be sure to match the paint chip to the door sills or B pillars. I suggest using the darkest shade of the three but your painter will choose specifically. You are painting due to clear failure I assume, so the darker chip most likely matches the inside of the doors. You can buy new, black anodized trim for the windscreens and the rain gutters since you need to take them off to paint. New clips too for the rain gutters. I broke some rivets so be prepared for that as there are a few IIRC.

I am going to have the whole car painted looking the same way it came out from the factory. What rain gutters are you talking about? do you have part numbers please? So I have an idea what your talking about when placing an order. ThanksElie

Nothing is off. The car was painted exactly to correct color codes. That color code for the panels is called Kiwi green. The only thing I did that not factory was paint the black bumper strips the same color as the panels and bumper. I think it looks really good.

Yes for sure Terry. Now I am the one who owes my cousin a favor. Anyways the car still has a lot of work left that needs my attention. I bought four new Michelin Pilot Sports tires as the ones on it now are not European something like bfGoodrich and dry rotted and belong on a Ford or some other American car.
500E has a check engine light that I also have to sort out. I heard from someone that our cars were issued to the German secret Polizei. Is that true?

This one isn't mine but to show how beautiful this color combo is. I am really tired of the black and pearl black ones including the silver (used to be my favorite). This green is now my favorite.6.jpg

The only reason this color is "hot" in comparison to black cars is because its rare. When I worked at dealership green cars were the last sold and would sit longer on oarking lot. If pearl black was made in few examples i am sure we would be drolling over it and vice versa. Either way its beautifull cor and any color on 036 is good as lojg as it is 036

Steve, please let me know if any such dog-pile happened by the spruce members here, they seem to have an inferiority complex and penchant for "fake news" -- may require discipline if your rights were violated.

Hey Terry, don't get me wrong I still like black it's just after owning this color it's something different and refreshing for me. I guess I just got tired of black and dark Grey that's all. I love German cars especially the W124 E500E 036 autos

I have never been a fan of green cars however I ended up with a green 036 and I like it very much. The shade of green is unique due to the amount of grey and lack of metallic . It looks awesome. I like it as much or more than my silver car.

    Congratulations on getting yours repainted.

Reminds me of a punchline to an old joke:

...and the woman replies, "You don't have to say it twice."

    The doctor says, "I didn't."
