DTC 10 on Pin 19 (DM module) - MAF

1994 E500 which has its Check Engine Light on. I went to the CAN box LED light which is only for the DM module. Hit the button for 2 to 3 seconds then counted 10 blinks.

DTC 10 on Diagnostic Module pin 19. That's the only code present; DTC 10 on DM = "Voltage at mass air flow sensor too high/low"

Anyone have experience with this. Only found this relevant thread:

Car seems to be running ok otherwise. Board recommendation is that rebuild MAFs from Bosch are ok. I reset the trouble code and see if it comes back tomorrow. Starting this thread to track my progress on this issue and help others down the road.

I'd just find a good used one off a donor engine.

Could be a one-time/anomaly CEL. It's good that you re-set, and are seeing if the code comes back. If it does, then it's probably a hint of an issue, but not necessarily ("for sure") with the MAF itself.

That being said, MAF issues have seemed to show up with some regularity over the years. It's a good idea to get a used one (for reference/testing purposes) off of a wrecked car.

Rebuilt/remanufactured ones are close to $400 at AutohauZ, so not cheap, but given the age of the cars probably worth the piece of mind to replace, once determined to be the cause of a problem.

As the referenced thread indicates, it's best to test using a STAR/factory diagnostic system, and as a quick test to disconnect to see if the car actually runs better in "default" mode.I'm sure that someone on the forum probably has a spare MAF they would sell you for relatively cheap. It's a good spare part to have around anyway.
    Cheers,
    Gerry

Thanks Gerry. I've never been to Pick-n-Pull place, they seem to be centered around me in Bay Area in California, and I think its time to schedule a visit and try and pick up a MAF. I've seen references in many threads about items I should stock up on and need to make list of items to hunt for. Looks like some 400e may be close by. I believe there sare some stereo parts for you 94 e500 you picked up off a 400 model.

I was just there and came across one on an S500 at my local yard. Connect with the Stevester, Captruff or David Hendy to see what they can do.

I was good for a week, thinking the code was just an anomaly. It came back, reset it again, and it popped up 24hrs later. Time to get working on a MAF replacement. I will do a HOW-TO if one doesn't exist already in the process. This may take me another few weeks to get to. Car seems to be running fine.

FYI... a flexible-shaft nut driver is VERY helpful for loosening the clamps for the MAF boot (click here). I think it's 7mm but you may want to double-check before buying anything.

Re: DTC 10 on Pin 19 (DM module) - MAF

When replacing the MAF, I recommend just getting a new rubber boot from MB, as they are usually fossilized. The boots are cheap either from MB sources (www.mboemparts.com, part shown here) or from AutohauZ (see link to part here).

MB part number 119 141 01 67 - you can get factory for well under $20, and AhAZ for around $12.

I'll try to get that MAF today, if you want a used one.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Re: DTC 10 on Pin 19 (DM module) - MAF

Many thanks to Captruff for hooking me up with a used MAF from an E400. I swapped it out and after a few days no more Check Engine Light. So changing the MAF fixed the issue.

Here is my how to change you MAF thread:
