    Great!

Also, this years marks the 50th anniversary of AMG so they will have 3 special classes this year:

Class 7 for 1967-1992 pre merger cars, judged

Class 8 for 1993-2008 post merger cars, judged

Class 9 for 1967-present non judged AMG replica/tribute cars are allowed and welcome for display

Jonothan is bringing the Hammer Wagon and Jano is bringing his sedan Hammer

Kip will return to Monetrey with his 1993 500E Silver/Black, remember last year he took Best in Class 6 with his 1992 500E Pearl Black/Parchment

Eric Bergstedt was awarded Best of Marque with his fully restored 1992 500E Silver/Grey with a perfect score of 100 points

actually looks like the Wagon is getting snagged by the Classic Center, they want it for their setup on the Lawn..hard to say no to that..especially when it comes w/ all expenses paid!

I may send out the Coupe though..We'll see how the next few months pan out!

I'll be there for at least a few days.

Jonathan, I hope Classic Center will allow your wagon to head over to Legends on Friday. However, your coupe sounds great. Either way, looking forward to see everyone at Legends.

Re: Legends of the Autobahn 2017

I should be able to make it again this year. Had a great time last year, learned a lot, and trying to get one of my co-workers to tag along. Eric's car was so gorgeous last year, and great to see the official photos in Star magazine later in the year. I pointed out the missing sticker on his radiator overflow tank to be a ball buster, having recently changed mine, I think he had the original one in his pocket! ... they delaminate and no way to put it back on, incredible).

I have begun putting plans into place to attend Legends again this August. Fortunately, the weekend (again this year) coincides with a planned business trip to San Diego.

I just signed up. Was thinking of giving preservation class a shot with my 560sec but don't really feel I've preserved anything yet. Just weeks into ownership and still need to clean up headliner and a few other items. I will bring the 560, in corral parking, and sign up for the Honch class review. Hope I pass!

Re: Legends of the Autobahn 2017

I will be there for the first time this year. I signed up for the Silver Star Preservation class just for the heck of it. Mine is mostly stock except for the SL600 2pc wheels and an aftermarket stereo. I am then heading down to LA, Monday, to have Matt Farah drive my car for his One Take You Tube video series so look for that to come up probably a month or so afterwards. Not sure what their turnaround is. I just hope it doesn't go into limp mode all of a sudden! Looking forward to seeing some fellow 500E owners for once! The SFMBCA chapter never has any show up when I attend their events. However, their events haven't been any fun the last couple of years. They used to go to private car collections at least once or twice a year but that has dried up. The last one was the Mozart exhibit.

They called me today and kicked me out of the Silver Preservation class. Needs to be 25 years or older. Mines a 93 so I have another year to go. I will be in the Corral instead. I have a test drive of the Alfa Julia scheduled at 11. They say traffic is terrible so I may not make that.

    Ricardo,

You wont be able to miss us. Just like last year captruff and the rest of our crew will be at the Black Mercedes Benz EZ Up with about a dozen or so Black MB chairs and just about everything else one can possibly order from the MB lifestyle catalog.

The typical schedule for the day is outlined below:

Unfortunately I won't be there - I had another commitment pop up about a week ago, so had a change of plans. I hope you guys have a GRAND time.

Take and post lots of pictures.

Particularly 600Eric's planned tech session on Mercedes M119 cam oiler tube generations and oilflow-dynamics. And captruff's tutorial on how to properly price CAN modules and other parts obtained cheaply at wrecking yards and from parts cars.

    Cheers,

Done a lot of the jobs listed, metal oil tubes etc. . . but have not attempted the "mirror boot removal".

I have the boots, but am scared of this most difficult job.

Better schedule at least three days off to attempt.

I wish I could make it but have plans for Las Vegas to celebrate my B-Day. Since Legends is on my B-Day I will expect some great pics of our SoCal crew sent to me.

More importantly, Everbody have fun, take lots of pics and don't drool on Eric's car.

Dude, replacing the boots is very easy, maybe an hour a pair. I would then coat them with Autoglym Trim Gel a few times a year. I have done this for over 20 years on my current 124 and the original boots are still soft and supple.

Re: Legends of the Autobahn 2017

Congrats to our very own Captruff for winning Best of Marque (Best of Show?), anyway it was the top prize! His 190 won as well. Kip also grabbed an award with his Silver 500E. The very unique Extreme 500E also took home an award. Very cool. Great event. I got a chance to say hello to several members, gmwind (aka Bill) recognized me, and we hung out together in the afternoon. He also was kind enough to take a picture of me with the Michelin Man and have his friend give me a personal tour of his gorgeous late 80s BMW M3. I brought my black 560SEC which I got a lot of compliments on. I will enter it into preservation class next year once I fix up the interior a bit more. I just kept doing laps around the event with my camera taking in the sights and chatting to fellow auto enthusiasts. I am posting my photo album, all 236 photos, here:

The coupe was placed in Group 7/8 AMG cars but it was not officially judged in the group, but it added much to the display.

The Hammer wagon is at the Star Lounge on the 17 Mile drive for MBUSA.

I did get a chance to speak with Jono briefly about his coupe. Wish I could have seen his wagon but that was reserved for the Pebble Beach Crowd. Jono's the guy in the light colored shirt.

AH! That explains it. The early (1980's vintage) mirror boots were made of different material that lasts a very long time. Somewhere in the early 90's MB started making the boots from different rubber which shrinks badly and cracks. Most E500E's are plagued with this. Gerry harvests used boots from 1980's 124's in salvage yards...

    Ricardo,

Thanks for identifying Jono to us west coast guys. If you didn't know the other guy is is our great SoCal wrench Matt Stockwell the owner of LEISTUNG AUTOHAUS. He is the one who did most of the restoration on 600Eric's winning Legends 500E last year. He's the best in SoCal on our cars.

Re: Legends of the Autobahn 2017

I made it back safe and sound with a slight scare with the Alfa Romeo when the washer fluid grommet failed at a fuel stop in spectacular fashion.

I will post pictures just as soon as I set up a third party hosting account sine photobucket is no longer an option.

It was great to finally meet Jonathan of Blue Ridge Mercedes and to see other members from the east coast, Stephen Duncan Peters, Al Lyndon, Mario Fuentes, and others.

This event is growing each year and if you have never attended or participated in a Concours event I would recommend this event. Monterey is beautiful!

Thanks to Team Stupid members for helping me drive the cars up and setting up the Hospitality Suite.

I do have a few extra event T-shirts, PM me if you are interested.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

That car belongs to my friend and it is in fact a 2002 E430, hence a Fake55

The interior, brakes, air intake, and exhaust are actually from various E55s

    Jeff,

Great photos. I showed my son photos of your E60, and he fell in love with it, and he basically wants a "Fake 55" now. I am looking at a black on black 2001 E430 tomorrow and GMWIND is helping me look at one in Phoenix on Saturday. Then onto to AMG wheels, not the two piece$$$, but will black out the center on the one piece version, black out the grill, etc. Congrats again on the win and helping my son get enthused about a grandpa-mobile E class.

    Hey Ricardo,

I am the owner of the "Fake 55". Thanks to Jeff I was able to get the car the way it is today. Legends was a lot of fun especially with all the attention my car got. Thankfully it was parked next to a real W208 CLK55 which made people take a 2nd look at my car because the engines looked identical. I took a lot of inspiration from Jeff's E60 as well which is why the grill is black and the wheels previously had black centers. I'm glad your son enjoyed my car! You can also check out a lot of the progress of my w210 as well as a124 on my Instagram @socal210.

Re: Legends of the Autobahn 2017

After 20 years of visiting Pebble Beach and the associated events from Australia I think I'm finally over it. Whilst I enjoy the cars at Legends, the traffic along 68 is just stupid. The worst event was the Werks, I spent 2 hours stuck in the ingress and egress traffic, those guys could not organize a root in a brothel. Pebble Beach now runs $1000 AUD for a pair of tickets, it is all just too hard for this koala (bear). Maybe in a few years I'll give it another run... August in Bavaria is always nice.
