No Reserve: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E
This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E shows 232k miles and has been daily driven by the seller for 8 years and 100k miles. With the original owner until 2008, the seller purchased the car through a salvage auction, following damage incurred to the left rear suspension while with the original owner which has since been repaired. The 5.0 liter DOHC V8 is paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission and remains unmodified apart from the installation of a stainless steel resonator delete pipe fitted by the seller. Comprehensive records are included in the sale and document a timing chain, water pump, battery, and front brake replacement this year. The car is being offered at no reserve and is sold with its original books, manuals, window sticker, and a rebuilt Indiana title in the seller’s name.
Black Pearl Metallic (199) finish is reported by the seller to be the original paintwork, with noted blemishes including rust along the wheel openings as well as a spot below the trunk lid. Factory alloy wheels were fitted with new BFGoodrich G-Force Comp tires this past September. A pair of OEM headlight headlight surrounds are included in the sale.
Inside, the black leather-trimmed interior shows wear commensurate with age and mileage with noticeable wear to the driver’s seat, carpets, and upholstery. Aside from an illuminated check engine light and the faulty operation of the cassette player, other features like gauges, controls, and power accessories retain proper function. Mileage is shown at 234,281 miles.
Images in the gallery detail the condition of the interior surfaces and materials, including noted wear and seam separations to the driver’s seat upholstery and some sagging in the headliner.
Producing 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque when new, the 5.0 liter DOHC V8 is described by the seller as a good runner. He has driven it around 100k miles with issues reportedly limited to an occasional lifter rattle at startup. Dealer maintained by the original owner up to 90k miles, extensive records highlight regular maintenance including an engine wiring harness replacement in 2010 along with a rebuild of the 4-speed automatic transmission in 2015. Servicing in 2017 included a new timing chain, tensioner, timing chain rails, water pump and battery replacement in January and new front brakes, A/C compressor, receiver dryer, expansion valve, fan clutch, and oil service this past September.
The original window sticker is shown above and shows the car’s $82,150 MSRP and is accompanied by the original books and data card.
