    SRS Airbag Light

What are some of the common causes for SRS Airbag light to remain on for 1992 500E? I swapped the control module with another unit and the light remains on. Thanks.

You need to pull codes with a hand-held blinker box to figure out what is causing the SRS light. The semi-common issue I've run into is the contact rings behind the steering wheel, but there are 8 different things it could be other than a faulty control module.

Still trying to pull the codes, but the shop is using the 38 pin cable connected to the diagnostic box. The problem is that the cable is bad. Is there a source to purchase a new cable? Also, the technician is indicating that my car will not hook to a blinker box for the flash codes. Is this right or is there something he is not aware of?

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean that the 38-pin connector inside the CAN box is bad? If so, it can be replaced / repaired... details in this thread:

Not the connector inside the CAN box,but the cable that plugs in for the diagnostic tool the technician is using.

Can't help with that... he needs to repair / replace his diagnostic tool or cable.

Also, your tech is incorrect that the car will not provide blink / flash codes. Actually, two systems (HVAC and SRS) will ONLY provide blink codes and will not communicate via any scanner, not even factory SDS. Seems your tech is not very familiar with the W124 chassis.
