Mercedes number A1190307217 or A1190301817.
Mahle number 0028911 or 0028901
Mercedes still do it but the price is crippling.
Anyone help on this?
I cant seem to find anyone who can get them from Mahle.

The cost to bore & etch an Alusil block, plus new pistons, would be $$$$$$. I'd consider locating a good used engine rather than investing in that much expense. Or go all out and bore to 100mm and toss an M117 5.6L crank and build yourself a 6.0L! A good chunk of the 6.0 cost is in the block boring & custom pistons, and you're halfway there if shelling out for 97mm...

Im waiting for the engineering cost at the moment. He implied that it wouldnt be too much.
Its either spend the cash on new pistons or go for rings on the current pistons and hope for the best.
Thing is the car didnt seem to smoke when I drove it... But now that its all stripped, I dont want to risk putting it back together and have it smoke.
If there's no significant wear on either the pistons or cylinder walls, I'd re-ring it and hope for the best.
But, a 600TE project would really be da bomb...

Been over to see the engineering place this morning. The wear is minimal. 3.5 thou at the top of the bores.
We have decided just to replace rings.

Do you have to change all of them? I'm sending my block to bore too and have checked price for the references you provide. I have found mahle at 226€

Hi CarboRS2,
Where did you find Mahle pistons? Many suppliers list them but the stock is zero. I am told Mahle only supply mercedes now.
We are not replacing pistons anymore, just rings.
You are right jaymanek.
They are listed in many parts stores but out of stock everywhere.
I still don't know what my block will require.
In case it needs oversize pistons, there's a big mahle factory in the area where I live. Maybe local shops have access to it...

Mahle will not sell to anyone but Mercedes. The main distribution centre is near to me and I tried with no joy...
Have you asked to see if Mahle will do a custom piston? You could just drop yours off and ask it to be profiled and then make you an oversize one. It will be your part number. Not Mercedes. Just an example. I had custom pistons made for my m104 engine and they cost around 1700-1800 for forged pistons with pins and rings.

Hi,
In the end the pistons werent required. There wasnt enough wear to warrant oversize pistons. We just went with new rings.
Thanks

Mahle custom will make you pistons. They just did a set for us a few months ago. Not cheap, but Really, Really nice!
