    E60 or e500 ?.

    Hello everyone,

This is my first post and I am so glad to be here among w124 enthusiasts, I currently own r129 and w220, and thinking of buying w124.

The car am looking at is said to be e500, however, I saw some pictures for the same car but it has e60 badge on the trunck, it also has 300kmh Speedo, so am not sure what the car is exactly is. The color is a different story, it has white interior and exterior which I didn't see before this combination. Owner said car is original and it said to have 60k KM. What do u think it worth ?
    Thanks in advance

Ps. I will post the vin as soon as I get it.

Just an opinion, but I would not buy a car from someone that claims its 100% original when its 100% NOT!

Post the Chassis number and we'll tell you the real story..or at least part of it.

Whatever it takes, to turn back the time, molested it is, anyway. To restore IT to the VIN spec. costly if you
are going to expect that Money it may be Worth, afterwards??

The VIN decode will tell you if the car originally had a 6L engine (code 957). However, that doesn't mean the engine was not later replaced (either 5L to 6L upgrade, or 6L to 5L downgrade). Checking the engine serial number vs datacard would be the second check.

A test drive may be helpful but only if you have driven both a 5L and 6L and know what the difference feels like, and that only is a valid test if the 6L is running correctly and making full power (ditto for a dyno test).

The most definitive check is measuring the stroke via spark plug hole.

I would say, YOU know even without the 500E test... I remember many yrs ago, The Yellow E500 '94
it's owner J E said: maybe there is a 6liter in there, well no, allthoug it was running very crisp and sound, it was
on par with my 500E. Wishfull thinking don't get you far, however that nearly 600nm and 400hp does.

The interior work alone isn't cheap, even if you don't like it. So assume the person with the car is the 6.0, why would they spend the coin to modify the interior, bore out the engine and leave the intake tube off? Either the person has more money and cars than most, or they just consider it an object like most with more money and cars. Imagine....

We had a 400E that felt like it had a lot more power than my 034. It didn't, it just somehow felt more on the edge. Hard to tell sometimes with these old machines. I could never find out why it felt quicker, but the stopwatch told the truth.

Yup, the 6L has a distinct feel. But if it ain't running properly, it can feel like a 5L. My first 6L car was like this - dyno showed 5L power, performance was nearly identical to 5L, etc. Measuring stroke confirmed it was truly a 6L (and also pulling the valve cover to inspect camshafts). Turned out to be partially plugged catalysts; swapped the cats and boom, full 6L power.

Well you could do a quick run against another car to confirm the power... say a 2007 E500 BRABUS B8 with 410HP. But be warned as this might cause you to lose interest in the other car, and traded in for an E63 AMG

Its UAE neighbor, Saudi. But the car is not imported from japan, it said to be a middle east spec. car. Again, vin should uncover all uncertainty about it. But if that interior is from factory, it might be one out of one car !!!

Well, Ahmad, it is still a mysterie, it was for sale, Think it was '06/'07 very luke warm interest, on the
Scandinavian MB forum it was a topic, a lot of talk but no action. Eventually it was, sadly, sold,
back to Germany.... The buyer told Jan-Erik to report back and send Pictures, last thing he Heard
was, it would be painted ...Black!!! thereafter nothing was Heard. BLACK....it was unique, Sulfur
yellow, all black/walnut int. Evo rims, as delivered. The only thing remaining is the WDB...

Yes, it really needed a repaint and some tidying up, it had been used some Winters soo...
