    MB parts availability (search) site

Here's a web site where you can enter part numbers and see whether they are available, and check prices (Euros). Obviously, US dealer & list prices (not to mention discounts via places like parts.com) will be different.

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

Awesome find! I've never seen that particular website. I am curious as to the accuracy, I looked up the 500E Euro headlight lens (A0008201266) and it says "available"... but these had not been available for a few years. Would be interesting to check again and find out if they're back in stock. Bummer they only appear to have three parts with an HWA124 prefix. This indicates that whatever price database it's accessing is incomplete; there are more items on the USA price list with that same prefix. But, the site should be valid for probably 99% of what most people would be looking for - just don't assume something doesn't exist (or is unavailable) if you get no results.

On a side note, this site does not display the weight of parts. The two sites I posted below do show the weight (in kg) of parts... this can be very useful. I've checked the claimed weights against actual measured weights for some items (i.e., brake calipers & rotors) and they are accurate within a few percent.

Here are another two links for Euro pricing, but the pricing is estimated to be 3-5 years old:
    http://www.mercmania.pl/cennik.php

This link has more current pricing, although I'm not sure the date:
    http://mbspecialist.com/mercedes_webcatalog/search/

Always-up-to-date MBNA / USA pricing can be found at parts.com and MBFL.

    Thanks for posting this, Gerry!

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

MB Classic used to maintain a current/up to date price list search site. They took it down for a while but as of a couple of years ago it was back up again.

I'll see if I can find it and if it's up, I'll replace the URL above with it.

UPDATE: Ahh...here it is ... URL above replaced with factory link. Be sure to put an "A" in front of the part number when entering it into the "part number" area.

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

Glad I'm still good for somethin' useful once in a while around here .....

I think if you read the fine print they have yet completed the databases for the 124 cars, so it's not a surprise that any 036-specific parts are not yet added. However I've no doubt they will be.

In the past when I used to use this resource (when I had my 6.3 and 6.9) it was 100% airtight and correct with regard to availability and nearly always correct on pricing. But that was back in the days when MB would only adjust prices once or twice per year. Now they do it just about monthly. However seeing as this is a factory web site, I think it should be pretty accurate.

Would be good to check on the availability of the 500E Euro lenses (I can do this with my dealer friend in Germany with a quick email) and I wouldn't be surprised (as I've mentioned several times in the past) if MB commissions a new production run of these lenses and so they are suddenly available again. I'll check that part number out with Kolbl Kratzmeier in Dachau & Unterschleissheim and get back to you with what they say regarding availability. http://www.koelblkratzmeier.de/merce...-mercedes.html

    Cheers,
    Gerry

I have also used and purchased parts through that site, it is very useful and the price displayed is accurate (they even remove the 19% VAT if shipping outside of the EU).

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

I did a quick check on the E500E fog lamp indicated in the Mercedes Classic Parts ad here: 129 820 01 56

The MB Classic parts site quoted the price at EUR 163.96 or EUR 195.11 incl. VAT

    Parts.com quoted the price at $196.80 (EUR 147,85) + ~$10 shipping, or list price $328 (EUR 243,-).

So Parts.com is still cheaper, although the MB Classic site beats the US list price by a good margin, probably even with shipping

At least for this random sample part.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

P.S. I have the 500E headlight lens availability/price enquiry in to my German dealer friend and should have an answer by Monday, or Tuesday AM US time at the latest.....

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

The 500E Euro headlight lens only is still available in Germany (it's a 2-3 day delivery to the dealer from the time the order is placed) and the cost of the lens only is EUR 114.

The part is most definitely available, I am assured.

So, it appears (the same as with the 500E trunk badges) that MB has made another production run of these items, as I predicted they would.

    Gerry

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

    SWEET! Score for the GVZ.

I wonder if they are orderable in USA, or if they're "Comm Blocked" like the E500 Euro lenses currently are. PN's below, in case anyone wants to try. Parts.com shows $110 USD each, but if they are blocked from sale in the USA, the order won't go through:

    000-820-12-66 - 1990-1993 500E Euro lens, left side
    000-820-13-66 - 1990-1993 500E Euro lens, right side

Awesome news that we can get them again. Now I need to pick up a pair to stick in the attic as spares...

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

BTW - any idea if that site shows MSRP or a discounted price? For the 500E lens (000-820-12-66) the pricing varies a bit from each site:

    € 91.69 - Classic site, excl. VAT
    € 109.11 - Classic site, incl. VAT
    € 112.36 - MB Specialist, excl. VAT
€ 86.03 - Mercmania, probably excl. VAT (not specified)

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

I'll be at my local dealership's parts terminal later today (or early next week at the latest).

I'll see if these can be had. They were def NLA last year about this time. One might need a valid euro-VIN reg'd car though to get these in the USA...which isn't a big deal.

    Any update on this, Jimbo?

FYI -- by the way -- if anyone ever has a billing/web site problem relating to an order they make with Parts.com, here is contact information for them.

The contact is Stacy Walling, and her direct line is (512) 477-0007 x215 and email stacy@parts.com

The contact for the parts department at MB of Naperville (Illinois) who is the actual dealer that fulfills the parts orders for parts.com is Jerry Mannino:
    manninoj@autonation.com

or if you happen to call the dealership, you can ask for Jeff Martin in the Parts department.

Ah yes, sorry for not reporting back sooner...

As of 3 weeks ago, they were available thru the ROW dealerships; but only for cars with a valid euro-VIN... so they are still 'COMM BLOCKED' for the USA.

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

Looks like all of the independent sites and MB dealers that have used the Trademotion.com parts catalog engine have been shafted by MB. Evidently MB has tightened its grip and pulled more parts business in-house, so fewer external sites will be able to sell genuine MB parts (similar to what happened in Europe last year).

I'm going to talk to MB of Naperville and see whether we can just call them directly and deal with them, to get the same prices that we got through parts.com. That would be cool if we could get the same deal without the middleman.

Hold the phone here - I don't think there's any proof that MB is behind this debacle. I think it's strictly a Trademotion screwup. If anyone has proof to the contrary, please share!

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

Oh I don't think it's a technical screw-up. I definitely think it's a change by MB in the arrangements that MB has made in terms of making its catalog and preferred pricing available to/through aftermarket parts catalog providers.

MB has been gradually squeezing the aftermarket for the past 10+ years. I have posted several lengthy posts on this forum about it. We've seen it overtly in Europe with the inability of providers like Speed Autoteile to get factory parts at the prices they used to. There is no difference between a Speed Autoteile and an AutohausAZ (at least for factory parts at AHAZ).

MB has gradually put the squeeze on the market for years, starting with its aftermarket suppliers (OEMs). The goal has been to make them captive to MB so that ONLY MB can supply key parts. It's why you can't buy hydropneumatic struts for our E500Es (or W126s, W123/124/210 wagons, 6.9s, 2.3-16s, etc.) on the aftermarket. It's why you can't get the Bosch-made EZLs new on the aftermarket. MB wants those margins.

After pressuring the OEMs, next in line was the major parts distributors -- IMC, SSF, WhirrldPack, etc. All of them used to carry major amounts of factory parts. All of them for years made nice profits selling both factory and aftermarket parts. Ask IMC or SSF if they even sell factory MB parts anymore. WhirrldPack ... no way. Meyle is about they best they go these days.

Ask the Rusty Cullens of the world about where they get their factory parts. He is getting them from MB dealers/sources, for basically the same prices that we buy them through parts.com.

The next step in the squeeze was the online parts vendors. First in Europe, now in the US.

There really are no more sources of factory MB parts left, unless you go directly to MB (dealer or the Classic Center). The only hope that I see is to have an arrangement with a dealer parts department either like you do Dave (which most dealers won't do for your average Joe), or to have a direct arrangement with folks like MB Naperville ... if they'll do such a thing over the phone or via internet/email.

The Classic Center can't touch the prices of a parts.com. Just a few days ago I answered an inquiry on the MBCA site from a guy looking for an MB hood pad. I quoted the part number and the prices from both AHAZ and from parts.com. Both were OE MB hood pads. Parts.com was 50-something dollars + shipping/handling (I'd say around $10 bucks all told) and AHAZ was in the high-$70 range (free shipping) for the same part. Tom Hanson from the Classic Center chimed in with another price that was higher than both of those.

I actually have yet to buy a part from the Classic Center (either in Germany or in the US) -- even when I had my 6.3 and 6.9 -- simply because I didn't see that they could get ANY part that I couldn't order myself through my local indy shop in Portland, which gave me 25% "good customer" discounts from published list prices. And with my 560SEC and 560SL, I have yet to find a single part that I was REQUIRED to order through the Classic Center. The dealer network can get you anything you want, as long as you have the correct part number, and a credit card to pay their typically high prices. I have yet to see the value that the Classic Center actually adds (other than restoring cars, and selling them for huge profits).

OK, rant over. To reiterate -- I see this as just another step in the decade-plus-long march to monopolize the parts business by MB, to increase their own profits. Every loophole has been targeted and I am seeing precious few left to close. I was really wondering when the parts.com/MB Naperville bandwagon was going to end, because it was just too damned good to be true for long.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

OK. So... why did parts.com implement the same screwup for every single manufacturer? Ford, Chevy, VW, Toyota... they all have the same broken part number search on the parts.com site.

It's Trademotion... they dropped a BIG ball here over the weekend.

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

    Here's the promised follow-up. I will present this as a bullet-point recap.

    • I had a 30-minute conversation this morning with Stacy at parts.com. Both parts.com and Trademotion (the catalog engine that parts.com and many other parts sites use, both MB and most other car brands) are divisions of a parent company called Intelligen, which is based on Congress St. in Austin, TX. Parts.com, though a separate division, utilizes the Trademotion catalog engine and data.
    • Stacy said that the recent issues with the parts.com site (and all other Trademotion sites) were caused by a server upgrade, which was commenced over the weekend. There were some technical and teething issues regarding the server configuration that were unexpected, and the company has been scrambling to solve these since the weekend.
    • The server upgrade was simultaneously accompanied by an "upgrade" in the parts.com/Trademotion capabilities, to add parts diagrams and to make the site "easier to use" which was done in response to customer feedback. MY OPINION: The new parts diagrams are useless and ARE IN NO WAY replacements for the MB EPCNet parts diagrams. In short, the "new" parts.com site has NO added value over the old one, despite the supposed "enhancements". DO NOT USE the catalog functionality of parts.com -- ONLY use the part-number search and e-commerce (ordering) capability.
    • Parts.com and all Trademotion based sites were severely impacted by the server upgrade, and most of the intended and previous functionality has been restored and/or implemented. However, as of Thursday (today) morning, the search capability by OE part number has not been restored. Stacy indicated that she had heard this would be restored by the end of the day on Thursday. I checked later in the afternoon and it had not been restored. Again, per the previous bullet, this part-number lookup capability is, for us E500E owners, really the ONLY functionality of the site that we should be using and that is truly useful for us (in terms of pricing and availability lookups and parts ordering). We will watch this closely and inform everyone when it is, indeed, back up.
    • We had a long portion of the conversation about how parts.com/Trademotion gets its parts data. Basically, the company gets its part number and pricing data (for all marques, not just MB) from a third-party specialist data provider. All MB part data (pricing, numbers, supercessions where available, etc.) are updated on the site once per month. Thus, if the update is applied a few days after an MB parts price increase, there may be slight inaccuracies in pricing until the update with the latest MB parts pricing is performed. However, I have found that 95% of the time, the pricing is accurate or very very close.
    • There is (unlike my earlier prognostications; in which I was wrong and Dave was correct) no change to the agreement that parts.com has with MB Naperville as to parts pricing and availability. MBUSA is not at all involved with the agreement that parts.com has with MB Naperville -- it is exclusively between the two companies parts.com and MB Naperville. Going forward, once the full parts.com site functionality (part number lookup by MB part number) is restored, everything should be the same as before. MB Naperville will continue to sell factory OE MB parts at approximately cost + 20% (plus the shipping cost and parts.com $2.00 order-handling fee).

That's about the long and short of it.

Hope that helps clarify things. Rather than any sort of fundamental policy change by MB, this is a technology upgrade gone bad. Things should be all fixed soon.

UPDATE, 10:05 PM CST, Thursday 1-12-2012: As of right now, the MB part-number lookup capability is still NOT active.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

Great info. I need to ask a question. I'm almost constantly changing minor parts on both interior, engine compartment, suspension/steering, etc. I've tried a number of companies, including the new company the Eckler created when they saw the market for Mercedes and Porsche start to grow. But the only one that really gives me a detailed catalogue is Adsitco. I find their pricing to be OK, they have just about, in my opinion 85% of the parts BUT....there are certain items that I have to buy from MB directly. Problem being they are very expensive. Can you suggest a good/complete parts supplier with reasonable pricing?

I ask that because I recently replaced the radiator and in searching I saw pricing up to $400 plus for a new unit. The plastic nipple connecting the radiator to the liquid holding tank snapped off (was my fault) and I was going to rig it with a brass nipple and some epoxy, I tried it but I wasn't satisfed because there really isn't that much plastic for the brass nipple to bit on and the expoxy was so so at best. So in my quest for a new raditor I had to go to the local Car Quest store to get some new epoxy for another project and was talking to the part guy. He looked up my radiator and sold me a brand new one for just over $100, which he said was just over his cost. But in talking to him, he said there aren't many parts that he can provide for that car.

So I'm looking for a good reliable supplier as I intend to do the Upper Engine/Heads/as you did in your great article, but want to make sure that I can get the exact parts I need with having to give my first born to MB? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

    Bob Kane

PS: the car just came back from the Body Shop after 2 months and I have to say, it looks pretty much like it did when I first purchased it 20 years ago. And I might say, probably a little better.

First of all, welcome to 500Eboard.com !! Please create an "Owner" page in the "Owners and their Cars" sub-board and post some pictures up of your refreshed car ! Eager to see the workmanship that came out of your body shop !

Your best bet for factory MB parts is going to be as noted above, parts.com (use the part number search function in conjunction with the free MB EPC) or MB of Ft. Lauderdale. Using firms like Adsit or AutohausAZ.com, you have to be very careful because they quite often supply aftermarket parts of dubious quality and brand, yet they provide other parts from factory OEMs of excellent quality at great prices. It's best to do your research here on the forums for specific parts, and also to ask questions if you are nervous about aftermarket stuff.

I also provided a guide on this forum (located here) to most of the known aftermarket parts brands and whether they are generally approved and good quality, of OK quality, or of "poor" quality and on the "Never buy these brands" list.

Generally speaking, you're not going to have good luck with "civilian" auto parts stores like NAPA, Carquest, O'Reilly, AutoZone, Shucks/Checker/Kragen and Western Auto because they are just not equipped to handle "foreign" parts. There are exceptions to this (for example last year I got two Bosch fuel pumps for my 560SEC - our 500Es use the identical part - at my local NAPA store for a decent price, Bosch pumps reboxed in NAPA boxes) but generally speaking you're going to get by far the best deals on factory parts from parts.com. You will pay 8-15% shipping/handling on top of that depending on the size/quantity of the items, but it will be 3-5 business day service FedEx'd from MB parts warehouses to your door.

You can sign up for the MB factory parts catalog that the dealers use for free, at http://epc.startekinfo.com and this is highly advised as you will not only get the latest and greatest information on part numbers and supercessions (substitutions) but also diagrams that can help you with regard to how things go to together on the car and where they go.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

Ditto what Gerry said... use the EPC to look up the correct part numbers, then search for that part number at parts.com and AutohausAZ or BuyMBParts.biz, and avoid any "dubious quality" parts. Adsitco does not have a good reputation, btw, their return policy is one of the worst I've ever seen. There's a detailed thread on the PeachParts forum about them. I wouldn't give Adsitco a dime. You can get equal or better prices from more reputable vendors.

FYI, that plastic nipple on the radiator is replaceable, and cheap too. Part # 000-500-08-94, current dealer MSRP is $6.50, parts.com "Geniune MB" is $4.56 plus S&H. The aftermarket equivalent from Behr is available from AutohausAZ or ElAutoParts for under $3 (order some filters & misc stuff from them and you get free shipping). Photo below.

Bob, FYI... the M119's rarely need head work (i.e., valve guides, etc). At most they might need new head gaskets. Unless you are experiencing a problem that requires head removal, there's probably no need to take the motor apart. How many miles are on the engine, and what symptoms (if any) are you seeing? Please start a new thread in the M119 section with more info.... thanks!

Parts.com sells only Genuine Mercedes parts, direct from an MB dealership. However they do not ship overseas, only to US addresses...

Thanks alot Dave for the Part-Nr with that Radiator connector. Its broken in my car too, despite the radiator is almost new. Have "glued" it so far with Dirko-HT, but better to replace it for that little price.
Anyway, BTT: This is the german Site i mostly quote prices from. They are from 2009 though and without german 19% VAT. So add 1-2% for every year on top (thats the amount usually at which MB increases prices) and you got the price.

Re: MB parts availability (search) site

I have had a set of the Euro headlights on my 500E since 1999. I was interested in purchasing just the lenses because the current ones are fairly chipped up. I ordered from parts.com a pair of the lenses and a pair of the full headlight assemblies (as future backup) today. My order, at least for the lens portion of the order, was cancelled by Shawn at MB Naperville, because the lenses are comm blocked, though the full headlights, inexplicably, are not. If he is correct, and no other domestic sources of Mercedes parts will (be able to) order the lenses, I have another source. I spoke with Dave Susquehanna Motor Sports in PA (http://www.rallylights.com/). They are a Hella dealer. He told me the lenses are available from him for $184 each, and the full headlight is $413. All must come from Germany and would take about 4 weeks. Obviously, parts.com is a better option for the headlight. As for the lens, it's $50 less through him than the full headlight is through parts.com, so depends on what one really needs, I suppose.

I saw pricing up to $400 plus for a new unit. The plastic nipple connecting the radiator to the liquid holding tank snapped off.

The plastic nipple on the radiator tank is replaceable separately for about $5, as noted previously...

I hope you don't mind my asking this but, are you sure these are genuine? not OEM parts? coz I know for a fact that they are indeed, different. I've come across similar sites that say the same but don't really comply with their PR's. P.S. I'm not bashing the site BTW

I picked up a couple of these last month for $1.89 ea from FCP clearance promotion. Genuine Behr / Hella, made in Germany. An inexpensive bit of insurance to keep in the boot kit for "just in-case".

It always pays to review the EPC diagrams first to determine the scope of a repair/replacement. In reading previous posts, it sure must've sucked to buy a radiator & then discover an inexpensive, replaceable plastic nipple is/was all that was required.
