    New York/Connecticut area

I had some work done by E.N.I. Motorsports. The guys do a great job and take their time to do things right down to the small details. I have not had to "mop up" after them a single time and I have had to do it almost every time after other shops (and stealerships) have worked on my cars which in my books counts a lot. I would definitely recommend them.

Those guys charged an arm and a leg for an alignment on my car and didn't adjust the SLS height on my car as I requested.

really? I know they are not cheap for sure, but as far as their work is concerned I have not had any complaints. Do you know of a better place? I'd love to get some suggestions as well. It is not easy to find a great place here. Also any suggestions for a very good and reasonable body shop?

I just had some work done at Monty Motors in South Orange NJ. They did a very good job at a reasonable price. They have have a body shop on site as well. Ask for Steve Monteleone. It was a pain to get the car over there from CT, but the work was well done.

Well, owner Gary is a 500E owner and a former MBUSA employee; many other local 500E owners use those guys for service....did they charge you for adjusting the SLS and not actually do it or they just didn't get to it?

It is too bad you didn't leave there a satisfied customer.

Taking one's car to a 500E-savvy shop for work is worth it's weight in inconvenience, in terms of having the right things done right.

How much did they charge for an alignment? It can't be more than the North Houston dealer charges me for my cars ($180+).

Well I have to be honest, I really like Gary he is the nicest guy and honest as they come. The other owner, Craig seems to know what he is doing but just told me that he needs to remove my intake manifold to replace my ETA. Correct me if I am wrong, but ETA is an hour swap and doesn't require anything like that. So I guess as Jim said I would recommend Gary.

If I end up not being to deal with them I will try the New Jersey shop.

You are correct. ETA is roughly 1 hour, although it could turn into 1.5-2.0 hours and a bunch of misc parts depending on how old the PCV hoses are. The intake manifold does not need to come apart, or be removed, on the M119 engine.

Hoses are like fossils. If i wait another 10 years I can sell them as coal. I will have to replace them no doubt but I don't mind that type of labor at all. I actually did one of them today that was cracked thinking all of them were plastic imagine my surprise when i found out the new hose was rubber.

As far as the ETA I sent them a link with Jon's picture with the intake in place. I'm curious what kind of excuse Craig will come up with

Welcome. Start an owner thread with your Vin, perhaps some pics too. Chances are good the history exists on this forum.

Alan, I can't help with a shop recommendation, but I can tell you there is a ton of computer diagnostics possible on these cars. Problem is finding a shop that has the digital scanners which will talk to the OBD-1 Mercedes systems. First step would indeed be to clear all existing codes, drive the car a bit, and see which codes return quickly - this will help narrow down the possibilities. If you are a DIY type, you can check & clear codes yourself using a hand-held blink-code reader; $20 in parts to build yourself, or $40-$50 to buy pre-built via eBay.

Also - is the car actually low on power, or are the kids at the shop expecting it to be as fast as a new twin-turbo AMG?

    Re: New York/Connecticut area

I have an ex-dealer MB mechanic in Salem, CT that has his own shop at his house. Art Foster , he is very good but not cheap. Bonus is that he seems to be OCD, like me, so things get done right. He has worked on dozens of the 500Es around here. I can post his deets if he approves it.
