    OWNER - Roma_500E

    Hello everybody,

I am new to this forum so I think it is time to introduce my lovely 500E.

It is 1993 by title but actual production date is August , 27, 1992 .

Car is 172 color (Anthracite Grey) which is pretty rare. Interior is 278

Used to be Texas car but now in Minessota but NEVER EVER been driven during the cold weather and just few times during the spring rain.

Always keep it in warm parking with the other MBZ

It is completely stock except few tasty things:

1st gear start (e420 valve body) (05)-> back to SGS (13)
    ASR off (04-05)
    Bilstein shocks (04)
    H&R springs (04)
All middle pipes and cats are deleted (11)
    K&N filters (02)
    Newer MBZ pedal kit (13)
    OE V8 shift knob (wood/leather) (13)
    C43/E55 AMG steering wheel (13)
K-mac performance bushings kit (rear) (02)

    EURO modification

I got Hella euro 500E spec lamps
I also (recently) put back EURO type head lamp wipers (sometimes put back "BRABUS" style headlamp panel)
    I insalled facelift tail lights
    OEM facelift corner lights (blinkers)

I also put BRAND NEW AMG 5-spoke wheels (A219 staggered) and wrapped them with Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires

(my other wheels to play with are
    17" 5-spoke AMG A170 part number
18" monoblock AMG A220 part number
    19" Asanti Forged wheels )

P.S. Tons of new ONLY OEM parts to make our 036's look fresh.

Great looking car! I like the AMG 5-spoke (A219) wheels, do you know the size and offset? What size tires are you running?
You have a really nice .036 and other MB's too...congratulations on a cool stable

    Thanx a lot !

Well the cool thing about A219 wheels is that the offset is excatly right for 036

    Front wheels: offset 25, 8.5JX19, tire (255/35ZR19)
    Rear wheels: offset 28, 9.5JX19, tire (285/30ZR19)

Asanti was custom made for SL55 and works just fine with the 036 but I removed them because 325 and 11.5 width is to much

Basically what I learnt is that CLS, SL(R129, R230), E wheels are suitable for 036. S class does not fit right without spacers.

Indeed a very scarce color, never seen one with Alpaca Grey interior, just a few with black.
I will overtake Gerry and would like to suggest to start your own thread at the OWNERS forum. Congratulations!

Currently 148 K (I do not know if you consider it high mileage) , well I hand wash it every time I use it (no exception) so it looks great . However , there are few blemishes on the hood (due to bird excrement), little sand blast on the right rocker panel and few chips on the right flared fender.

As far as I remember I just saw 3 including mine 036 with 172 paint code in the US. One of them on this board.

I thought I alredy did so ? If it was not the owners forum then would you be so kind and guide me where and how to post ?

P.S. I am still learning how to use this website.
    P.S. 2
I will post my interior soon ( I am currently replacing windows motor regulator) but there is nothing special (except the ceiling and ASR off) , absolutely stock in mint condition .

Lots of people ask why , well I got the AMG wheels and I am planning on AMG exhaust , so I think it should be fine (it's going to be sort of AMG package)
In addition I just love AMG products.

    1994 E fünfhundert (170kkm sold )

    Welcome to the board!

You have a great and good looking car there. Is it really 172 Anthracite Grey? With 176 Mussel Grey cladding?
..but that AMG badge - mmmnnnnj...not sure..

(172 is in fact the original color on my SuperMerc too, and every time I see it my mind is pushed towards a total recolor.)

    Sure .

This car has a very tough life.
It is 1985 production date, but was sold (based on title in 1988-89). Car went through huge drug case in FLorida , that is why spent 10-11 years under Florida sun on a police lot.
SO it's been purchased in 2001 at auction with 35 000K. The was no paint on a car , somebody stole the wheels and exhaust too. Aftermarket rims were more than half in the sand. Leather did not survive too.

As some people said on forums that thing was developing of a race car for some racing but it was canceled and MB produced very few examples, most of them with manual transmission which is great for this short stroke engine since the peak power at 8000-9000 rpm. The example on the photo is unfortunately auto 722.3 which is limited at 5500. It is not super fast becasue of the tranny but the top speed 170-175 Mph tested on I-35W N

The most important thing about this car is that it is EXTREMELY stable on a high speed, much MORE stable than any AMG SL R230 CL C216 W221 or BS MB's. The only thing which is comparable is R199 SLR (based on the feelings).

At 150 mph it feels like 80 on 036.

The engine 4.0 liter V8 M117, it is Cosworth with short storke for the high rpms rated up to 8000-10 000 rpms.

Somehow it does have OEM HID (xenon) which still works fine. Moreover it is MUCH more brighter than C140 and C215 HID (did compare them) , it is the same bright as the W221 facelifted (did compare too).

Hood and trunk are made of magnesim, so they are suuuper light .

The frame of front seats was light weighted too , but it was crippy so it was replaced by regular C126 seats.

Also most of the interior parts and panels have stickers and signatures on them.

The engine works extremely silent like a W211 E320 and starts much better than 036 , cranks and starts in a second .

The body , AMG package is all original (does have AMG stamps and part number).

Currently has C32 AMG exhaust and 17" 5-spoke AMG that I got on 036.

I hope I did not miss anything.

Ahh - wrong pronouncement from my side! My Supermerc is repainted from 172 to 040 plain black. You'll see it here in post #7, #34, #87; http://mbentusiastklubb.no/smf/index...ic=53712.0;all
And your car is in post #85, I hope you don't mind, great images!
    Here's another one in 172: http://www.500eboard.com/forums/show...OWNER-bendover

    ----------------
The repaint to 040 is very well done and 100% complete, except from the engine room. I will repaint the entire car at some point, maybe in a bronze, copper or brown'ish color, with some black sections and black wheels. Or I simply bring it back to the original 172 with the same black setting mentioned. Here's a bit about the engine set-up too: http://www.500eboard.com/forums/show...percharger-kit

Here you go , thats is why I got BRATWA instead of brotherhood or something like that, because it does have a deep cultural meaning

    Do you speak Russian ?

BRATVA is used to be on CL C140 looong time ago (it is me on the pic by the way so that you guys know me in case we meet somewhere)

but now it is on my friends Mercedes C32K fully and deeply modified (see pic)

It takes a while to get used to, but the more pictures you post the more I love that color. Looks great!

Well, to be honest I was not so excited about this color due to our cultural preference to have all cars in black . However, when I first saw car in a person it appeared to be really nice color. It is sort of unique one , cuz nowadays I do not see cars in that kind of color. So in real life color is much better than on pics trust me , especially on a sun .

I bought it in 2007 and don't drive much, last summer 35 km only! No proven numbers, but the sales prospect said 580Hp and 782Nm, and König claims it should pull well beyond 500Hp. It's not that important for me, it is the car condition, that it has a closed deck M119 and the rarity on the engine mods which counts most, but it is fast!

I'm in fact not sure where I got those pics, maybe from the Russian MB forum, Chez E500 forum, or Google Images. I am collecting nice 036 pics and feed my thread on the Norwegian MB forum.

You have a great car collection. The story about that Cosworth 560 SEC was special. Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth has made a lot of powerful engines. Magnesium body parts are super rare, I wonder how they managed to fabricate those and avoid a million of cracks.

You're right about the 172 Anthracite. When you stay close to it, it looks like it is "glowing", and especially in the sun. The mileage on your 036 is 148 K, I guess that is KM since you live in Russia?

I actually saw your car looong time ago , when I was dreaming about E500E and surfing the net looking on nice 036s. Apparently your set up is rare and unique and if the numbers are right then your 036 is on of the most powerful one as far as I know all (BRABUS, AMG, Carlsson ...) and should be the fastest one cuz the 6.9 and 7.3 are much heavier than yours.

Thats what I thought , I posted pics on russian benz club so I think you got it from there.

C126 is not 560SEC, but 380 SEC with little bigger displacement than original 380SEC. Yes, there are lots of questions on how it was built , but what I was surprised of is the OEM xenon back to 88-89 !!! The most interesting thing would be if it got in an accident , where the insurance company will find the hood or trunk ? That is what I always think of.

As far as I know they built engine for 201.036 as well . I also see from time to time on different race cars their engines.

Regarding mileage on my 036 , I guess you missed my first post where I wrote that car is used to be Texas but now in Minessota , so 148K are miles, so I am currently live in the USA

Huh - you live in Minnesota? I'm looking closer for a 2-year expatriation in Houston. If so happens I'll probably find a 036 to have when I am staying there.

380 SEC of course, a speedy mispnirt sorry.
Yes, a damage would be disastrous. Did they really have Xenon lights back in 88-89, and even OEM. Maybe Rik (2phast) can chime in on this.

There might have been Xenon halogen bulbs used back then, but HID's did not appear until at least the late 1990's... HID headlights were optional on the W210 in 1996. Remember that Xenon and HID are not the same thing.

Well , thats what I know too, but the fact is that it warms up like xenon in 2000 and as you can see on the photo it is not halogen light. It does have two balsts so I do not what it is , but it is suprisingly bright as I said it is comparable to W221 facelift

Not really, C126 should be stock and the way its designed to be .

I am thinking about 036 fog lamps, but I am not sure if I want to mess with them , cuz it seems I have to do some holes and other things to fit XENON bulb and balast. I just do not want to do not reversable modification .
I love to drive with fog lights on without headlights on. For 036 I put all "super white" bulbs (low, high and fogs) so it it looks pretty good.
However, if it is not that harmful for car to fit the Xenon I will do it .

What brand did you used for Xenon ? I assume philips or something like that ?

I would really appreciate if you could post some pics where did you put balasts and how did you fit all wiring !

P.S. Your 036 loooooks AWESOME with the new headlights and bright foglapms. I know HRE are great wheels , but to my point of view the pattern you got does not look right at all .

According to police car was impounded in 1990-91 , so it was either previous owner or police. It is really mystery to me .

Yes, there's some drilling that's needed to fit the wider Xenon bulb, for the .036 fog lights anyway. For the .036 fog lights, the housing for the OEM bulb needs to be widened a bit, so a bit of drilling is needed there. For my conversion, the ballasts were zip tied to the fog light assembly inside the housing. There is no harm that I can see, the only thing is drilling out the housing, but it can be replaced.

    Yep, from Philips.

The Xenon lights were done with the car away from me, so I didn't get any pics. The ballasts along with the wiring are placed inside the back and bottom side of the headlights housing. Since the newer ballasts are much thinner, they fit very snugly in the button where there's a pocket of space is available.

Thanks, I like how the HRE's look on the car. Btw, the headlights are not new, nor are the fog lights. I just finally had the fog lights converted to Xenon, the headlights were converted a few years ago.

On the light pattern, I know it's not the best, since the headlight lenses are still fluted and I haven't decided if I want to mess with the lenses. For now, I just keep the light output a bit lower than with halogen bulbs, otherwise, I'm good with how the pattern looks. Plus, in the pictures, the headlights lighting looks more fuzzy than in person.

I was saying about pattern of the wheels ... it is like an EVO style ... I do no like them =) got some AMG/BRABUS =)

Lightning is great ! And as I said two years old head lamps with the carefull driving definetely look new compare to 20 years old (thats what I meant).

For example my is not that fresh as yours cuz my were installed appx. in 2002 .

    Hello Roma,

You should take a look at 2phast's homepage; http://www.2phast.com/500e/default.htm
Open "Exterior Updates" on the menu at left, scroll midway down the side and you'll find a very good presentation on the Xenon/HID lights transplant on his 036. (I think he has removed them now BTW, and went back to stock)

I believe it was my mistake when I read your statement about wheels. Styles are subjective and we all have our preferences and why we go down that path. To me, the Evo wheels look great on the .036, sporty and elegant at the same time. My decision for the HRE wheels was also based on the six spoke Evo design, to keep to the original theme the car came with, plus I like the style I selected. AMG and Brabus do make a few good looking wheels as well, but they are too heavy and that's not what I wanted for my wheels.

Imho, too new of a wheel style does not work with our cars, the wheels look out of place and the car looks like it's trying too hard to look newer. But then again, for some peeps the newer wheel style is a must, so to each his own.

Btw, my wheels get a shite load of compliments, on the street and on the few tracks I've attended.

Evo I meant Mitsubishi EVO , the original Evo II are awesome looking wheels.

Well yes, your wheels are definetely great it is a nice brand and they are light weight, that is why people who knows what it is make compliments on them. However style/pattern is the subject of the preferences you are right here.

Regarding "new style" wheels on 036 you are right and I agree with that,so that is why i do have different wheels . However the current wheels set up is kind youth style =)))

That’s one thing I can’t do now (although I’m ok with it) have more than one set of wheels, as I do not have a lot of free space to store them. But I do want track dedicated wheels in the near future, but another set of street wheels is not in the cards right now…I have other car expenses I need to care of like headers and free flowing cats to do next month, followed by new leather on front and rear seats by August. That and another set of street wheels I would want would have to be HRE quality or better and that means at least another $5K. Even for track wheels, I’m considering 1 piece forged magnesium wheels which are over $2.5K for a set of four. I would never buy used wheels no matter what is being offered or by whom (no offence to anyone here selling or buying used wheels), but that’s just me.

    Hello guys !

I am finally done with the exterior modifications !

Now car is really what I need

Since there is almost no point to put any other exhaust (in terms of power) I decided to keep it all stock.

    Here is what I did:

Cut all middle pipes and cats

Stock muffler got an OEM AMG tips (pretty wide tips by the way)

    All new rubber hangers.

Looks awesome , exactly what I wanted it to be .

More pics are coming soon .......
