    Gerry:

Bracket was sold to Roma. I'm actually keeping the catalysts as spares for a project car. The center resonator and muffler are available. Clark is interested in the crossover pipe.

I was under my car today and happened to notice that I'm missing this rare piece of metal too. It's probably been missing since German Autosport of Santa Monica rebuilt the transmission in 2008.

    Roma,

I have that part, I bought an extra one about 5 years ago, when the bracket failed on my 1992 500E
with approximately 40K miles on it.

Don't you do an under car check over at every oil change?

6 years and you never noticed that?

I think this part, along with early rubber mirror boots, is something we should start accumulating from boneyards.
I'll start a separate thread so others can contribute to what parts they think should be squirrelled away.

From now on, any and every .034 I see in boneyards I will be getting this piece. I have seen three .034s since last July here in Houston boneyards, so I will be on the lookout.

I agree Gerry as I see them around too. But every JY car that I have seen is very nasty underneath, keeping me from wanting to pull that part. Ewww, messy! Need Charlie, the part pulling cat, to go with me.

You can borrow him when you need him. He has a new sibling (a 10 week old Australian Shepherd puppy) so has not been happy as of late, as he learns to re-exert his "Alpha" status around the household. So I think Charlie could use a break, if you need him.

Ahh, didn't see "previous owner" in the transmission statement.

It's probably been missing since German Autosport of Santa Monica rebuilt the transmission in 2008.

All of the junk yards I have visited are unpaved (dirt). How do you jack the car up to get to this part? Does the junk yard normally loan you a jack and some plywood or do you have to brig your own? Just curious.

The yards I have visited have the cars in the air, on top of two steel wheels welded together. Plenty of room to slide underneath, in the dirt, mud, and gravel. Don't wear your nice threads.

Every yard here in SoCal that I've been to has the cars propped up on welded steel wheels like Dave described. Maybe AZ yards are different?

Re: Exhaust mount to transmission W124 V8 cars PN? WTB

I just got home from the yard. Scored some Sportline goodies a few of which I'll put up for sale shortly. Also a mushroom dead pedal for my C126, which is unobtanium from MB and they are usually ALWAYS cracked. $5.00. Got some of the plastic seat track covers under the front seats, if anyone needs some.

All cars at the Houston LKQ yards put the cars up on round metal pipes about 8" in diameter that are welded to flat metal plates for stability. One at each corner. I've seen plenty of yards that use the steel wheel method, though.

I'm getting ready to score the steering box out of that Sportline 124 I found. I just put an MB trunk mat on the ground underneath where I need to work and that keeps most of the dust off. I usually wear a pair of coveralls if i know I'll be under the car or getting really greasy.

Nope, all cars in Phoenix yards are elevated too.

I just returned from a few yards myself, where I pulled the exhaust bracket in question from the above car. I also pulled some minor trim pieces, a few blower motor fuses, and an intercooler and Volvo turbo fan (same 4600 CFM unit as Ford Taurus) w/attendant relays. A profitable day, for sure.....

That is Tucson's ham-handed attempt to save the planet, one un-salvageable car part at a time.......

I have a Sportline box in my wagon and it makes the car really fun to drive. Especially with the Limo bar in front and 036 bar in the rear and 17" AMG wheels. Bilstein Sports, new rubber bushings and mounts and Sportline (129) subframe mounts help too.
I (Joanna) wouldn't mind a Sportline box in her coupe but I'd have trouble sneaking it in without her knowledge. Maybe when she visit's her mother in Poland I could....

I know in MN 320CE sportline sitting in a yard. So if anybody need the steering box I can give phone # of the guy (owner) of the yard so that you can buy this thing. Owner is very nice and reasonable guy.

    Roma:
I believe the CE (and all coupe) Sportline steering boxes are the same as the Non Sportline sedan boxes. Dave or Gerry should confirm but I believe the quicker ratio was only offered on the sedan and in Europe the wagon.
The one "everyone" wants is the sedan Sportline box I believe.

Ron is correct. The coupé Sport box is worthless, it's the same as all the regular sedan boxes. For some reason, MB put a slower box ratios into the two-doors. The "good" box is found on Sportline sedans and cabrios in USA, and on wagons in Europe (the Sportline wagon was not offered in USA). The real holy grail would be a Sportline 034 box (Euro only), as an upgrade for the 036!

I will check into whether van de Velde has a Euro 034 Sportline box when I visit him in June. If so, I will get one and bring it home. And sell it to the highest bidder !!!

Sportline sedans in the US are fairly rare ... I have seen far more Sportline coupes than sedans.

    Cheers,

Ok, good to know the difference. Never seen sportline sedan in the US to be honest so it has to be rare as Gerry says.

You guys are freaking me out with your part hoarding. I have zero extra parts for my car. Am I missing something? Trying to figure out where to start. Have yet to make it to my local pick-n-pull.

Primary items I'd recommend are the four CAN modules, plus EZL, and DM (that's all 6 total modules in the car). If you want exact 036-correct spares, or at least 036-equivalent, some of those may cost more. If you just want something functional for test purposes, you can get "incorrect" modules that will work for testing for possibly a lot less $$$.

Otherwise, it kinda depends what consumables you are worried about either going NLA, or priced to the moon. I'd pick up a spare set of new E500 Euro headlight lenses while you can, a bunch of people who bought the E500 lights + 500E lenses should have leftover facelift lenses for sale, but I've only seen a couple pairs pop up.

I wouldn't worry about oddball stuff like exhaust brackets unless you plan on losing yours.

It's a bit of a sickness caused by long-term ownership and love for these cars borne over years.

I typically see several types of owners:

    1. Long-term owner/enthusiasts who will never get rid of the car, ever, and drive them with regularity. These are dyed-in-the-wool E500E guys, and tend to be the parts hoarders.
    2. Collectors/speculators/concours folks who own and restore the car to immaculate condition, who are long-term owners and enthusiasts for the E500E. They typically daily-drive a different car.
    3. Hobbyist/German car enthusiasts who learn about/remember the car and want to own one for the experience, but are not true E500E model enthusiasts. They typically own the car for 2-4 years, but move on to something else, typically they go between MB models and BMWs, etc.
    4. Flippers/speculators who see a market opportunity in buying and selling a car after a year or less, thinking they can make 50-100% if they buy a car right. No enthusiasm for the model at all, though they know what it is. It's all business.
    5. Folks in Group 3 above, but who quickly realize the car doesn't fit their tastes, and so they sell it within a few months. They somehow think the E500E is some sort of AMG type performance car, which it is not.

Hmmm.. I wonder if I am 1 or 3? I guess if I go past 4 years I definitely turn into 1. I simply enjoy driving the car too much. I love how it flies under the radar and I get the rare thumbs up, Some guy owns an current model AMG E class wagon who I encounter on my commute some times and he always gives me a honk.

Definitely need those lenses. My left one has a crack.

I would put a "long-term owner" as someone who has owned their car for 5 years minimum, with 10+ years being more the norm.

There are quite a few guys on the forum who have owned their cars for 10-20 years.

I fit in catagory 1 for sure. This coming October 9th will be 13 years of proud ownership for me.
This is the best car I have ever owned. What could replace it that would have such a quality build?

I will say that I NEVER plan on selling BUT "Never say Never Again". Isn't that a Bond movie? Ha!

Until it happens, you never really know what may change your mind.
