    H&R ??

    Hello!

I have searched for H&R springs for my 500E, and i want the modell made for
    500E without sls..
Any of you who knows if this is right modell? Part nr: 29855-1
The dealer say its the right one and in H&R list it says so too, but i have allways
heard that this modell is NLA!!

    Re: H&R ??

29855 is the H&R part number for the 500e springs. They are SLS only springs. If you want a set for the 500e without SLS, then you just need to get the 400e springs, part number 29569-2

    Re: H&R ??

500E H&R springs without SLS are #30230 and these are NLA.

Just cut your stock springs (try 1/4 to 1/2 coil) if you want to lower it. The H&R are not much stiffer. If you want stiffer, get the AMG E60 springs. The H&R tends to lower the front too much, and the rear not enough. YMMV, etc.

Thanks for info, but still it says in H&R website that it IS for cars with NO sls!!
I have asked the shop one more time and he says that H&R told him that its for cars with NO sls...
    I go crazy aboute this!!!!

And i dont want the car lower just harder, and with no sls and yellow koni its to soft.

    Re: H&R ??

#30230 is 500E with SLS removed. But they are NLA so you can't buy them.

#29855 is for 500E with SLS, as Rik said. These may still be available. But you need SLS functioning.

If you want firmer suspension without lowering, the H&R's are not what you want. Either of the H&R springs will lower the car significantly.

The E60 AMG springs are the only ones I know of which are firmer. You can use the E60 springs with tall/thick spring pads to keep the ride height about the same (no lowering). If you are removing SLS, you'd need the E60 front springs with 400E Sportline non-SLS rear springs.

The 400e springs are the same as these and work well on the 500e. I know of several cars that run the 400e springs along with Bilstein struts (no sls)

    Re: H&R ??

The 400E springs will be softer than the 500E springs (either stock or H&R). And the 400E H&R springs will be lower.

So yes they will work, but I don't think that's what he is looking for...

The cars I worked on sat roughly the same as my car, the rear was a bit lower which was a good thing as the 500e with SLS & H&R's sits too high. That is easily correctable with a SLS adjustment though.

I can't comment on the 400e springs being softer, as the cars I worked on had Bilstein struts. But the car handled better than my car

I read his question as to what H&R springs are correct for a 500e without SLS. The simple answer is the H&R 400e springs (since the 500e specific non-sls have been NLA for many years) and this has been done many times already.

Furthermore, the H&R's lower a stock 500e by 1.25 in the front and 1" in the rear. This is not a "significant" drop, its a minimal drop that does not put the suspension out of spec, assuming you have a four wheel alignment done after the installation. It also does not create any clearance issues nor any uneven tire wear. If anything, the 500e could be dropped even more, but then you would never get the suspension within spec without adding 3rd party camber adjustment.

    Re: H&R ??

You might want to contact this seller in Germany. His auction says these are for the 500e without self leveling

Get the actual part number and compare it to what Dave posted

    Re: H&R ??

I am wondering what "gasers" finally decided re those H & R springs?

My SLS was deleted by a PO, and I have no idea what substitute shocks were fitted, nor whether the stock springs were replaced or not. Having said that, the rear ride height is IMO fairly low, and as I believe the stock springs are fairly soft and would normally need the assistance of the SLS to bring it to a "normal" ride height, I am thinking that the car still has the stock springs fitted.

My plan is to firm up the back slightly, with the fitting of H & R springs, and Koni shocks - but not to significantly lower the car further.

I read on this thread that the H & R springs 29855 (which are the only springs now listed as available) are NOT for SLS deleted cars. However, H & R still indicate these are for cars with SLS deleted! As gasers said originally - all very confusing!

Can I take it that H & R springs 29569 (listed as those for the 400E) are still my best option?

    Many thanks.

i see its an old "reply"....but i wonder...is it not possible to get the 400e springs....29569-2, and mount them on the 500e WITH the SLS intact...what would be the issue?

If you look on H&R's web site and use their search tool, only 29855 are listed.

Don't know, but probably a height and/or spring stiffness difference. Not a good idea to experiment unless you can find someone else who has already done it and reports back its OK to do.
