I think I've found a high quality replica of the OZ/AMG splits

I know many of you like the look of these wheels but don't want to search forever and pay through the nose for a set, let alone worry about cracks all the time. I think I've seen a few posts lament the fact that no one makes high quality replicas.

I just came across the Work "Barroso," which appears to be exactly that. I've also seen them referred to as the "starform," though google image search seems to associate another style of work wheel with that name more frequently. Work is a highly regarded Japanese manufacturer if you're unfamiliar.

I do not see these on Work's website but I have emailed them inquiring about availability, sizes/offsets and pricing...I'll post the reply as soon as I get it.

There where several brands that made high quality replicas of the original 17" AMG 3 piece wheels. Most are 17" and discontinued long ago, I have a set of 18" that I get a lot of complements on. If you can find a good set at a good price I say grab them.

What are the sizes, off sets, center bore and lug pattern to the set you found ?

The set I found was 17" but no other specs were listed, looked like a square set up from the pic. They were sold by the time I called...I was ready to pull the trigger at $850. Link:

I've seen the pics of your wheels in the owners section by the way - they look fantastic!

Got a response from Work about availability of these wheels

    Thank you for your email.

The wheel you are referring to has been discontinued for over 15 years.

    Have a nice day.
Lol. Oh well...another option to watch for on ebay/cl/forums.

    I believe these wheels have a bolt pattern of 5 x 114.3
How can one get these to fit on a 5 x 112 pattern?
I assume with wheel adapters, but are there any good wheel adapters going from 5 x 114.3 to 5 x 112?

I believe so, just make sure they are the correct seat. Never use cone-seat bolts on a ball-seat wheel, or vice-versa. For ball seats, the ball radius MUST match for safety reasons.

Did Dave just OK wobble bolts!? 8-o

Hey Dave, would you rather run wobble bolts or spacers?

LOL! I've never used either on my cars (yet). Based on my limited research, I would consider using wobble bolts, which are only useful for ~114 bolt circle wheels.

I would still avoid spacers if at all possible. Proper ones are $$$$ and if they're not the good stuff, at best you invite balance/shake issues; at worst you have safety issues. It would have to be a very special wheel to get me installing spacers.

I've got some pics of M12 ball seat bolts used on R14 wheels (i.e., R230, W220, C219)... the contact area is razor thin. Scary stuff. I suspect a lot of people don't realize this.

Re: I think I've found a high quality replica of the OZ/AMG splits

I have an exact set or those 3 piece forged rims rims posted up above
But mine were custom made for MB spec PC112 front 17 x 8" et16 / rear 17 x 9" et21 they came off a W126 and i purchased them some years ago as they look very similar to the AMG/OZ 3 piece forged rims in design
They were made by high end rim maker Arrow Enterprises in the 90's era and that style is called "Zauber-Monoblock" they were expensive new as Arrow produced high end 3 piece forged rims. Quality all the way and lighter than the AMG/Oz rims
    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-Wheel-Thread&
Mine are stripped down ready for new paint and mirror polishing to the lips which are in perfect condition as i dragged them out of storage this year to play with them
The barrels are in perfect condition also and i have worked them ready for fresh etch primer & paint

I have plenty of pics of this style rim and mine if anyone is interested in seeing them
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGVEDWWeqN4

I rate them as an extremely rare - cult rim - especially sought after in Asia classic car scene
If the right cash was offered i would sell them out of my vast rim collection
Would be looking at AUD$2,000 which is USD$1,500 plus USD$440 airfreight to anywhere in USA/Canada (or other overseas countries - freight may vary to other countries)
