    OVP Relay?

    Hello-

Can someone please let me know the location of the OVP relay or its equivalent? I believe the location is in the box on the passenger side near the firewall but need to confirm. I want to check the fuses. Thanks!

There is no OVP in the 400E/500E. The equivalent is the Basic Module / General Module, and yes it is in the box on the passenger side near the firewall, under the hood. Remove the lid and you will see the module with 4 fuses on top.

It's a good idea to check those four red fuses as an initial troubleshooting step when electrical anomalies occur with the E500E. These four fuses are out of sight, out of mind, and are often overlooked in favor of the "traditional" fuses in the fuse panel on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

I agree Gerry, this is more than often overlooked.

Met Bob996 today and saw his immaculate and very interesting 036. An early 1992 build but with full facelift (front and rear), Euro-spec instrument cluster with onboard computer, and odometer in kilometers. Hopefully he will chime in here and tell you more about it!

It was nice to meet you Greg, I will be sure to post up details of my car this week under the owner and their car thread. I appreciate the kind comments. Your car was very well cared for too and it shows. I look forward to the next get-together and being a part of this forum.

Hi Dave, I am having a check engine light issue. Mine has only three fuses NOT four. Should there be three or four fuses there?

    Thanks

I believe this varies with the part number of the module... IIRC, early ones may have 3 fuses, later may have 4. If the car was running normally with 3 fuses, it's probably not related to your CEL issues.

If you are having issues diagnosing the problem or codes from the CEL / DM, you can start a new thread in the Diagnostics subforum...
