The car shouldn't idle low. The idle is 100% electronically controlled. If it is idling low (much below 525 RPM or so), then there's still something wrong.

Should be 600-650 in P or N, and 500 in gear. And Gerry is right, the RPM is not adjustable, it's controlled by the T/LLR module (non-ASR) or E-GAS module (ASR).

That's about right then. That's about where it's been idling. I was thinking that it should idle around 600 rpm in drive and around 700 rpm in N or D. Wrong assumption on my part then. I have noticed one thing the last couple of mornings. A few seconds after starting it up first thing in the morning the idle will start to reduce from around 1000 rpm and then surge back up to around 1500 rpm then reduce to around 600 - 650 rpm. Any ideas? btw, thanks for everyone's help with this. I still have other issues to tackle, but it's running pretty good right now. Not bad for a car that has over 189K on it.

Looks like there's still a small issue. The check engine light was on when the idle was surging up then back down. The CEL went out by itself and now it's not doing it anymore. I'll check the codes again when the rain clears out here and see what comes up.

Which hylomar product should be used for the gasket to ETA?
I went to the Hylomar website and they have a lot of products to choose from
I will probably go to the auto parts store and get a permatex product, but still unsure which one to get, there are several permatex products too.
Is it the Permatex 85249 I need?

Use a new gasket with a smidge of Hylomar to hold it in place during assembly, and hopefully you got a new PCV tube that connects to the ETA...

Yes, 85249 would be perfect. It is also sold as Blue Hylomar and as Wurth DP300.

This is crazy, the three major auto parts stores in Socal, NAPA not included, don't sell this product.

Oh, didn't think of that. I'd bet it doesn't meet Kalifornia volitle solvents regulations, etc. It does have a nasty solvent carrier that smells like the "good" brakeclean. Sorry, it's not a problem out here in the sticks...
