    OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    Hey people
Im new to the forum,,and i had to put out some pics of my newly aquired MB 500e.
I live in Norway, and not to many MB500e "s here.
Im actually a Ford RS enthusiast, but have always loved the .036 cars.

This is a 1992 model, original 199 color, but repainted in 197 Obsidian black. And it does have the 94 facelift hood and trunk.
Its to be seen on as a project car,as it has its faults..and i have already solved ABS/ASR light on all the time..issue.
It was a fuse in the GM module,,and in the process i also changed the brake lamp switch before i managed to find out about the fuse in the GM module.
More faults to solve are the centrallocking system beeing out of order, deal with a couple of rusty spots under the car, and do a full on service on the car .after that..it will be just geeky stuff i guess
Will update this thread pretty soon as i have ordered more parts to make the car better and better.

Hope you like the car.Just some poor pics of a quite dusty car

    Cheers from Norway.

    Re: Lowman"s 1992 500e Norway

    hey people

Thank you very much for kind words
Starting to feel pretty happy with my buy..as there was faults to the car.
The ABS and ASR warning lights were on.
Solution was one of the fuses in the GM module...in the can box
The centrallocking system and all the interior lights were out...poor contact on the fuse for the cenctrallockin in the main fuse box.

so today ...i have checked the fuse box thorouhgly, and changed all the fuses..and put some silicon grease on every contact point.so now...all the warnings lights in the dash works...and interior lights works..and centrallocking works.

so im happy with finding the faults.
Now i just have to tear out the ugly aftermarked alarm, which sometimes decides to go off.

    here is some pictures

does someone know what this fuse is for?did not bother lookin at the wis no more at work

The broken 30A strip fuse behind the brake booster is for the twin electric fans in front of the radiator / condenser.

    Re: Lowman"s 1992 500e Norway

Just had to post this little update

Been working on the car all weekend,as there have been stuff to sort out.
The car has been suffering from some "glitch"...it could while driving, loose all power in the engine" ..for just half of a second..just like if the power was cut..and then turned on again. And when i was about to drive off..as the revs rised...therewould be this glitch..and engine would stall..and all instrument lighting would come on..as is if the ignition key was on position 2..
I did check fault codes before and after...and afterwards..there was "No CAN reception " from LH1..
and from that..i checked the CAN wires..and they are all good..and did just change all fuses in GM module..and REseat all control units.and hopefully it would do the trick..though it had one minor glitch after that point..but fault has not resurfaced after that.
here are some pics of the fault finding

After that i removed the aftermarked shitty alarm from 1996
And decided to clean up the wiring under the steering column...and removed the after marked mounted Automatic daytime runnings lights..and decided to check all the wiring inside the switch connector
    here is some pics

and did some interiour cleaning while i was at it .no further explanation needed i guess
And i made my own file book, printed out Service introduction papers, more technical information, wiring diagrams and stuff

    Re: Lowman"s 1992 500e Norway

    hey people
Here is another update on the progress of makin my 500e even better than before.
First of all...i actually found out what caused the stalling problem on my car.(EDIT::: NO;IT WAS NOT THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH THAT PLAYED UP;BUT AS YOU CAN SEE;IT WAS IN BAD SHAPE;AND WAS DUE TO A REPLACEMENT)and countless hours of faultfinding...and so on...i found out it had to be the neutral switch playin games.so i ordered a new original part.installed it..and have not have the car stalling or throwing fault codes since.here is some pictures of the work.Replaced the gear lever switch rod bushings too while i was at it to make shure there was no play in the linkage and so i could adjust it properly

I had to open the old neutral switch just to have a look...and i really feel that i can see that its NOT good...it has some corrosion, and the contact points on the "switch blades"....they are almost missing on the bottom ones

Next up i had my front bumper painted. It had some small damages in the bottom right end front,,and a crack in the paint only, just above the numberplate .
i cleaned up the nearly brand new gof lights..and this is how this repair went on.

Then i continued with the servicing of the car
I wanted to just service the whole thing, and replace all of the service parts..as it was due to a 200ooo km service...it has a full service history..and i wanted to keep that up with only the best servicing.so every filter ,oil and plug is replaced.

here is some pics of what is done...still have left to change the oil and filter on the engine and fuel filter.im takin small steps just to make shure i have enough stuff to keep my hands on i also did a aircon service on the car.

Last but not least ,i changed all the plastic reservoars in the engine bay..or at least coolant, washerfluid and SLS system reservoar..and new sensors in cooland and washerfluid reservoar.here is a pic of the work.

I also got a full sticker kit ,the warning stickers...have not received all of them yet..as they are super special order..so some of them are still on order from factory.here is the ones i got at the moment

And finally a couple of moood pics of the 500e ..and my other precious..a Ford Focus RS mk1..love that car to bits as i am a Ford nut aswell as beeing a Mercedes nutThe Focus RS mk1...is a limited run car...with only 4500 ever made...and my car beeing number 2893
    Cheers

    Re: Lowman"s 1992 500e Norway

    A little update

I changed my front discs and pads today..as the "old" discs had developed abit of pulsation.abit sad really as the old discs were not that worn .
    here is some pics

Run in the brakes.just to clean of the protecting layer, and make shure they got a smooth start to their life

a Mood pic of the car after the brake disc change.

I also got for free a lightly tinted front indicator lamps. Not original items..but i wanted to fit them and see how they looked..and i think they look okei. The only bad part is that one of my original lamps, snapped when i took it out to put in the tinted one.
The original indicator..AS the brakes discs....were not old either...so quite dissapointed the locking flap snapped off..anyways...a pic of the tinted indicator.

And my other precious...The Ford Focus RS mk1...got treated with a new battery as the old one had done its job the last 6 years.so replaced it with an original Motorcraft battery..

unfortunatly i was not able to get hold of an identical battery..as my ford dealer did not have it in stock..and i was in need for a batttery right away..so i ended up with a Motorcraft battery ,instead of the blue Silve Calcium battery...which i was sooo happy with.6 year battery life is pretty good i think.

    Thank you for watchin

Hi Lowman, I have a question for you. How come you don't have headlight wipers/washers? I thought it was a standart fit on all E500E's. Or am I wrong?

hey dude.I think it was standard fit yes...but the headlight wipers here are missing most likely because of the old owner did not want them on there..and do not see the use in them.and i do not see the use in them either..as it will never be driven in either winter weather..or BAD weather

    cheeeers yeah im glad tooo..finally
though i have exeperienced asr warning light triangle coming on under full load...but just sometimes...doesnt really bother me..but i figure its the ETA playing a part in that failure.but doesnt occur that often..and doesent affect the driving ,,,the way I drive it at least.so will keep it in the back of my mind later on in the resto process

LOL, reminding me of a most misunderstood feature often found on MBs, that being the headlamp washers. They are there to remove the salt crystals that distort the headlamp beam and blind the drivers of oncoming vehicles. They aren't even for "your" car, per se, except to the extent that the driver heading towards you isn't blinded by your lights. That's why the ECE made headlamp washers mandatory on vehicles with HID lights starting in the later '90s...
    Putting the fun in dysfunction...

Interesting bit of knowledge there Klink and on the subject mine are history too. No salt crystals here in SoCal so they are definitely getting "the old Spanish archer"

If you drive in winter conditions with snow/ice on the road, the wipers ARE needed. Anyone who has spent any time driving on wet, nasty roads in winter knows that road grime can quickly build up on the lenses. This can drastically reduce light output, to the point where the headlights are visibly dim and do not light up the road. The old-school fix was to stop, get out of the car, grab a handful of snow, and use the snow to wipe the headlights clean. Mercedes headlight wiper solution was brilliant.

If you live in SoCal where the temps never get below 50F, the wipers are not needed.

    Hi lowman!
We've been in contact already on the Norwegian club site, however I like to wish you welcome here on 500eboard too.

I have had your car in my 500-registry since it was imported to Norway back in 2010. Your car is in fact upgraded with most of the equipment introduced with the face-lift models too. It is nice to see the great job you are doing on it right now, and you're a lucky man having the proper tooling available at your employers workshop.

I haven't been in contact with the previous owner of this car yet, but I guess he is happy with his 500TE - which was the car that brought me into the 036-business back in 2004. (I've put some words about that in my profile)

Here is the latest public sales ad I have on this car, it is from the first owner who imported and rebuilt it:
    http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/obj...nkode=36348296

BTW, I have family members living close to you in Tjønneveien. I've been there several times, last time was for Christmas celebration.

    Ciao,

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    Hey people

    A little bit of update.
I got my new K17 relay today...for the air injection pump...but the pump does not run with the new relay..seems to have some powerloss in the signal wire from the LH unit...the LH unit is supposed to send a earth signal to the relay...and it does...but seems to be some powerloss as the relay does not switch over..
Only thing that is not connected...is my O2 sensor...which is currently beeing replaced as i have did some diagnostic on it....and there has been an error code saying the o2 sensor is bad too...and after some back and forth..i just went ahead and ordered a new 02 sensor.

The old one was a straight bugger to remove..as it was corroded from hell and back in the threads in the exhaust tubing.
After some time..i got it out..and the threads on the sensor was way stripped..and luckily ..it was only the threads on the old sensor that was bad..not the ones in the exhaust tube..so now im just awaiting the new sensor to arrive.

here is some pictures of the work removing the bad sensor..

At the bottom..is the tool needed to freshen up the threads in the exhaust tubing.

    Another one

Ordered me a set of new bleed niples on the rear calipers...so decided to replace them..but ended up doing a complete brake cosmetic freshen up.
Just removed surface rust on the brake"shield" ..and calipers..and put primer on ..and painted both of them..and last but not least putting on the new bleed nipples...and flushing the brakesystem again with fresh new brake fluid..so its now 100percent new fluid in the whole system

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    third update

Just some pics of replacing the new intake air temp sensor.
No need to explain to much..other than it was missing on my car...and was hoping it did soooomething to the emmissiions on the car...it did not..but it was good that i got it sorted out anyways.
Did not know there was a clips holding the sensor to the back cover on the headlight..so i just made my own fitting.
Bottom..you can see the default value when sensor is not plugged in....it shows -89 degrees....and plugged in it showed the real temp..+25 degrees..so i guess it has some effect changing or putting it back in there.

    cheers

    hey people

Did some interiour and exteriour work today
ive had some minor squeeks from parts of my interior, mainly the front seats,as where the leather touches plastic...it can cause unwanted interior noise, or squeeks.I used parts of a "Lube kit" we have at work..to prevent interior noise.and the bottles you see in the pictures is intended to use where leather touches plastic..such on the sides of the front seats and so on.so i did a complete "lube up" on all contact points..and no more squeeking

here are some pics Hope you like

and finally did a light polish just because i wanted to..and an engine bay shine..just because i love it to be super clean

Yeah new plastic parts and a good clean now and then really takes the car to a higher level i think. It makes all the difference compared to a dirtyer engine bay with an old brown colored expansion reservoar

    hey people

    Here is a tiny update
I finally received my beautiful original O2 sensor...i already took the old one out..which was a pain...and i was lucky that the threads in the exhaust tubing not beeing shredded.I rethreaded the threads....and today i got to mount the new sensor.
I also got some other parts..but i guess ill explain more about them tomorrow
Now i just hope my O2 sensor fault dissappears ..and my emissions getting where it should be

    and the "other" parts

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey people
    Another update
I am picky with my cars..and do not like stuff thats worn or does not look right..so next up was to replace the locking eyes ,the ones that sits in the door pillars.
I just want to explain here and not under every picture...but the new locking eyes are different than the original ones that is on the car.And first off..i thought it was a NON fit...but after some thinking time ..i decided to try and fit them..and they fit perfectly though the dimensions are different on the new and old part. You can see what i mean in the pictures
I also pinpoint what wear they have ,which is the reason i replace them as i want them to be in perfect looking and working condition.
Actually, there was a better "sound" when closing the door aswell know after replacing them, and they are of course properly adjusted.

    Hope you like

    Thanks for the video.

The passenger side air intake tube seems to be too high. Maybe it just needs a twist or some thing.

    Those door catches look good.

    Re: OWNER - lowman (Norge)

    hey people

Found out some stuff regarding the air inlet snorkle.
The rear cover on the headlight is not the "problem"..or is not even different on the right hand side compared to the lefthand side.
There was actually a connecting joint or "bit"...from the old inlet snorkle..still stuck on there..so i could take that off,so now its the same on each sideSuccess

I was stupid enough to NOT change the hose from the SLS reservoar when i replaced the old reservoar for a new one..so here the other day ..i spotted a good ol leak..and i was able to make myself a new hose...and saw the opportunity to flush the whole system with brand new oil..once again

the hose was completely soaked in oil.

I also wanted to check the distributor caps..though they were replaced only 4 years ago..and 10000km..they were quite attacked with carbon deposits...unfortunatly i did not get a "before "photo..but i cleaned them off with this soft brush...and they were all good.
Anyways..i think i can spot some "cracks" in the rotor...marked in the red ring...hard to say..but one is "cracked"and the other one is totally fine...so hard to say if its just the "mold" that looks bad...
