Nice but based on the current regime's obsession with snatching imports I would be hesitant.

I am hesitant. Can't confirm that it's a true AMG conversion... Nice truck, but appears to have 3.2 covers, intake crossover, etc. All the 3.6 info I can find online relates to 1997 models and include newer, power and leather seats.

    Re: FS: 1994 G36 AMG, Green/Gray, 181kmi, $22,500 (Wheat Ridge, CO)

Rather high mileage, basic cloth interior and zebrano wood (as opposed to burl walnut), a Webasto, and manual seats yet sunroof. I think the price is about $5-7K too high and I think owner would need to see some serious paperwork to see what has been done on it. Hopefully by 180K it's received a new head gasket.

As far as I know, 1997 was the last year that MB used the M104 engine in the G-class, and they definitely made G36s far earlier than 1997. One would have to look up some AMG-specific M104 engine parts for that VIN to see if it is a real AMG or not, as the EPC lists AMG variants generically with G320s. I'd have to loop up and see if there is an AMG-specific option code too.

Most of the G36 AMG models went to Japan. 120 G36 AMGs were produced in total by the factory, and 109 of those went to Japan. 58 of those 120 G36 models were 744 Brilliant Silver.

There were 2,615 "standard" G320s produced (like my own); 2,735 if you add the G36s to them.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

OK, first of all & interestingly, this G-wagen is an early 1995 model, and is only 14 earlier in the series than my own (my G-wagen's VIN ends in 098065). It would have been produced in the latter part of 1994, but after the model-year change-over to the 1995 models. Delivery date is 11/21/1994, so it would have been produced probably in late October or early-mid November of that year.

Per the EPC, it definitely DOES check out to be a 3.6-liter model.

Gerry, where do you see the confirmation in EPC as a G36? I'm seeing "G320" in the datacard for WDB46323117098041.

Did the seller post photos of the engine? Or, did you contact the seller and receive some photos? If so, please post them up.

Indeed, I didn't see any photos of the engine in either advertisement.

If you Google the VIN of this truck, you'll find a few threads around the Internet on it. It is a truck that's well known to the experts over at PointedThree.com.

    Re: FS: 1994 G36 AMG, Green/Gray, 181kmi, $22,500 (Wheat Ridge, CO)

Thanks, Gerry. I had found some of that, but not all.

I'll need to send the pics over to Gerry or Dave. For some reason, I've never had luck with posting photos on this site. Engine is reflective of the later pictures in the above links vs. the earlier shots before it left the NW. Underside is clean as well. 2 small rust cracks on weld creases, but overall nice shape given the miles.

A couple of negatives: After it left the NW, someone took out the rear jumpseats. Also, It sounds like the records are less than complete. A previous "buyer" took the car for a PPI and got a $2300 estimate to baseline the fluids and basics and replace the valve cover gasket. Seller refused to eat it and gave him his deposit back to relist on eBay.

Not my usual MO, since it's not coming with a 3" 3-ring binder of history, but I kind of like this one for the "36" badge. I'm negotiating a reduced price to exclude all the roof add-ons that I will never use, but it's not coming down the $5-7k that GVZ suggests.

I own a G320, and place value for cars this age and mileage, strictly on maintenance, especially for the unhandy. Skilled labor on these is hard to find. The 5g they are asking over what you think is fair, may be worth it. I can attest, the AC blower motor on these is 750.00 (i have a part cross with bosch that was 80.00) and they were literally the FIRST assembly part installed by Steyer, and the car built around it. Its insane what you will do to swap a squeaky motor. I'll never do it again. I'll pay the 4000.00. (insert suicide smiley here)

That considered, a non inspected internet purchase is throw of the dice with these.

New guy, looking for a 500E driver.

And i have 290,000 on the 3.2, so i don't think the miles are off putting. This truck, on paper, is a horrible application for this engine, but yet, my experience with the package has been awesome.

Strictly my opinion, but if you are looking for a m104 version, I would entertain a 97. 5speed electronic Auto transmission, as well as disc brakes in the rear. In my search for one, this is what I learned.
More so if you are doing highway driving.
I was ready to bid on a great looking 95 G320 and happened to read a post somewhere on how it revved at around 4k at 60mph. That would have bugged me while driving it. (not that I get much of a chance to anyways, but never-the-less)
Again, just my 2 cents, not looking to disrespect any of those who have pre-97

correct. on paper, it blows. its a terrible combo for an overweight medium sized suv.

oddly, ive been fine with it. i hammer my trucks offroad, and typically stick to 70mph highway as a matter of visual cues not audio. it accelerates fine from stop without the torque of the fjz80 straight 6.

if youre into G's as a mall showpiece and badge pretending, maybe it matters, but if you use the truck as a truck, its surprisingly nimble and adequate.

that and, HP breaks parts off road. the lesser engines always seem to make the drivetrains last longer.

yea, thats squeek is a pain in schlong. kick the center tunnel and it will go away. that lasts about a year. i did test the original motor with a little dry lube and ran it for a weekend straight. it cured it, but its such a paaaaaaaain in the ass to get to, i wasnt going to risk putting it back in. i'll check the shop mess for that number. the only difference is, the MB part has an internal resistor that limits HI on the fan speed to cut noise, i presume, as the plumbing is so pathetic any real cfm just results in turbulence and BP.

caution. be careful pulling the squirrel cages off the ends, AND putting them back on. the old plastic is getting brittle, and i think those parts may be specific, as the shaft length ends on the motor didnt match other motors, from my recollection. its one tight interference fit. i didnt locate cages, when i was looking for OOPS parts.

Having owned my own 1995 G320 for a bit over a year now, I can concur with the sentiment expressed here. The M104 combo is just fine for everyday use, around town, and even off road. 70-75 MPH freeway jaunts are just fine with this G.

It's just not snappy "off the line" from stoplights and such, but that's why we have 500Es anyway. For a big heavy truck, when I've used it to haul loads and such, it's been perfectly great. The top speed out of the factory for the G320 was only something like 106 MPH anyway.

i didnt forget about you, i lost my damn folder. not very Teutonic of me.

i found the old motor in a box. ive been looking at numbers online seeing if something strikes me. i xould swear i bought it at autohausaz. theres more than one shaft configuration that uses this motor, so the key is to match shafts. i did notice the e36 bimmer appears to have the same shafts with a different cage configuration. i need to try to get some measurements.

dont you love having to redo homework because the dog ate it?

I know this is an old thread, but how do I get the info page for WDB46323117096899? EPC seems to only give me access to North American vehicles, and using the online sources with that VIN I get G320/G36 parts list.

    Thanks,
