Is that your car? From the plates, looks like you're somewhere in Mexico? If so, didn't know that the regulations there permitted imports of this kind!

    Re: E500 1995 Limited Edition Black/LE grey-black

Many thanks guys. Yes it was imported in 1994 by one of the finest and richest guys in Mexico that owned the Mercedes Benz dealers for one of his family members. Later, this car was sold to 2 other guys and then to me. I am a very enthusiastic MB fan and found it in good shape and had invested a lot in keeping it original with MB parts, engine harness, radio, dash temp indicator, all electric parts working, new fog lights and all the stuff it tends to fail over the time beside the leather seats. I just change all the leather with Uli's B. LE product and it looks awesome.

    Here is the VIN: WDB1240361C160623
Nevertheless to to tell you this is the only E500 I have seen in Mexico and the only real LE I have seen so far.

I recently had 2 offers for it and I am interested knowing a range of pricing.

Datacard attached. It's a legit Limited, code 958. Nice car!! Are you looking to sell locally, or are the buyers out of the country? I assume you are located in Mexico?

BTW - welcome to the forum!

Yes it is! Believe me, I have also other Merc and AMG cars and nothing like this one.
One is in Mexico and the other in CA.
I am not very excited to sell it but if the offer is generous enough I might think about it. Right?

Do you guys think this car will get the price like a 190 EVOII? They are more than $100K ! Crazy!

Nah, the only thing anywhere near that price range would be a legit E60 Limited (code 957+958). For a standard Limited, I'd put a very very rough price range around $30-$50k depending on condition, odometer, history/records, etc.

My crystal ball is fuzzy, but assuming the global economy isn't a disaster, any of these cars should be worth more in 10 years than they are now. How much more, I have no idea. For current values, you'd have to check asking prices on European Limiteds, since there were almost none officially imported to North America. Keep in mind that Euro values are higher than USA values... and I have no idea how this would translate to values in Mexico. Ultimately it depends what a buyer is willing to pay.

Good, it might be a better idea to keep this beast kept for some more years. Nothing like a nice Q-Ship, isn´t it?

If you could find a way to drive it into the USA, you might get some people interested... can't officially/legally import until it's 25 years old (without paying a huge fortune for Federalization, as has been discussed previously on the forum).

Thanks for the tip. It is something similar when importing to Mexico. Perhaps it's a better idea to keep maintaining my car, enjoying it and in 5 years look for an interesting deal if that's the case/intention.

Meanwhile I will keep talking with my new E500 board new buddies!!

Not a bad idea - keep it & enjoy it!

The 036 is already a rare bird, and in say 5 years it is even more admired and wanted than ever. Not only because it is a nice drive & good appearance, but it is one of the last sport limousines the owners can maintain themself to a high degree - and it is one of the last cars giving some kind of feedback. Newer cars is a cost effective laptop on wheels IMHO.

Most 036s for sale are in Europe, and the present price level is on average 20-30% higher than the rest of the world, mostly due to the VAT over here. A greater part of these cars are private sales, which means they are not subject to any VAT deduction on export. The cars sold from retailers may have VAT deductions, but the sales price is higher too. I just checked Mobile.de, and only 10 out of 61 cars are subject to VAT deduction on export. I am now talking about cars in reasonable condition, not restoration objects - who cares about paying $1500 for shipping a wreck overseas..?..

Another thing to keep in mind is the annual write off. They have disappeared pretty quick since I came into this back in 2006, we probably talk about thousands over the later 10 years. So, when that 25 year US import rule opens up in a couple of years, the import will gradually increase and drive the price level upwards on the already excisting 036s in the US too.

Nope, because they shouldn't be sold.

    Jokes.

All jokes aside, though, I see zero downside to keeping your car. It's gorgeous, has tons of life left, and will likely only appreciate in value. Short of a complete ban on fossil fuels, I think it will always be a great car.

    Cheers and welcome,

I'll hazard a rough guestimate (it's foolish but I'm not wise enough to resist), because (a) I don't track Limiteds; and (b) there's no accurate "rarity" gage (witness R129 Silver Arrow cars). But I'd guess $40k to $45k, assuming the level of maintenance to which we're all accustomed here. Less than $50k to me. Factor in shipping and federalization, and who knows.

I actually think the Silver Arrow cars are a good allegory for these Limiteds, in that there's simply not enough different about the cars substantively (interior and rarity) to justify much difference in pricing. Except to those for whom naked rarity is a plus, and it's up to them to decide how much that naked rarity is worth. I'm not in that crowd and I don't understand that crowd.

Am I willing to pay more for a '02 SL600 Silver Arrow than I am a '97 SL600 in my preferred color combo with a pano roof (all things equal)? Sure, but that premium is less than $10k. On the other hand, I'd break the bank for any year SL73 AMG, because the car is substantively different. So to me, this is a 125k mile face lifted 500E with rarity and a different interior. OK...

But I'm admittedly atypical here -- I chose a '92 car over the face lifted '94 cars, because I think they look better (I was looking for the "old school, classic" look of the more prominent grille) and the substantive differences (WOT enhancement comes to mind) were more compelling to me. The market flatly disagrees with my thinking in this respect.

    maw1124,

I like your thinking, although my preferences are a little different.
    R129's, I would rather have a 1997 SL60, cause its a v8 m119.
.036, I would rather have the 1993, it has the grill you like, electric driver mirror, and if it doesn't have the LH with WOT, that is a simple swap.

Rarity...I kind of like rare colors if they are appeal to the eye.
Limited interior, would like to have cause of the rarity, but the truth be known, most of us would think it is hideous, except for the fact it is MB limited.

Agreed, Stevester 500E. I have to admit, I didn't know about the electronic driver mirror on the 93's. I'm almost embarrassed that it got past me, but oh well. The quirk of the manual driver mirror has grown on me, for the same reason as the "old school, classic" grille and absence of cup holders -- it's just Germanic in a very endearing way to me.

As far as swapping modules, I view that like swapping valve bodies. They all need rebuilding at this point in the game, so I don't consider it easy or risk free. I still have the FGS valve body I bought from you, which didn't go over quite as I intended. Luckily Marc from SV gave me one with my rebuild. Of course, I now know the FGS VB may not have been the culprit in that complex system, but it highlights how messing around with complex systems is easy and risk free in much the same way that the US and China are allies. Having my LH module rebuilt further nailed this point home -- I now have two working, but the rebuilt one works better. I just knew sometime in '93, WOT went away and the way to be safe was to get a '92. Of course, when my '92 showed up with 60k on the odo and 15 years of paperwork and a "just for me" price, I was done.

As for the R129's, I already have an M119 powered car, which is the primary reason I would go for an M120 powered car. I feel like I've got that naturally aspirated thing covered in spades, except for a V12. Once it gets to forced induction, it has to be a 65 AMG car, because ... I already have a forced induction 55 AMG car, and who cares about a forced induction 4- or 6- cylinder (not me).

But the interior only thing just doesn't get my goat. nocfn and I were just discussing that offline -- if it's just an interior, I'll have someone custom do my own on the car of my choosing. It's less and less important to me that it be "from the factory." In "boat country" you can come up with better materials, more choice and more individuality for less money, because all the boat interior guys will happily do cars to keep food on the table. Even at Amelia Island this year, I had a few conversations with people about how the "all original" thing just has all but given way to "tasteful upgrades."

    Cheers,

    maw

I agree the car is very cool and I agree with you holding on to it at least until it can be imported to the US. In a few years assuming the market continues for these cars it could be worth $50,000 to $70,000. Keep in mind there is a small market for these cars and Japanese cars will be available to US customers in a few years.

    Re: FS: 1995 E500 Limited, Sapphire Black/Grey-Black, 200kkm (Mexico)

Excellent comments from maw and I agree completely. Reality is the 1995 Limited models are a 94 edition with one-off paint color and very odd interior design features (seat leather inserts). I have been lurking on the side with my recently acquired 94 E500 unicorn car (in my mind, at least, - Polar White, grey, 43k miles, superb near new condition with EVO's) and fully believe my car is worth $40k+. For US market, the import issues cloud the value of Limiteds. I doubt anyone would spend $10k to Federalize a Limited (unless it is an E60) because there are no substantive differences other than a "Limited" label. Having said that, in 5 years, a 50k mile Limited will most certainly be a $50-60k+ car.

Many good points about the Limited and value and so on. And it is both interesting and nice to see the various taste & preference around, which is a dominant indicator when picking the wanted car. However, it could be interesting to see how many that has ever seen a Limited live, sat in it, drove it? I don't say the Limited interior should be rated above any other interior, and it may not be worth the extra bucks, but since I have both a black leather'd car and a 288 leather'd (grey pattern) Limited I know the visual influence it has when taking the seat. It's just a mind thing, I know, but it's tasteful and gives a nice feeling, it's not more complex than that in my case.

    Just my 2 cents..

I have seen your car in México City before, I must have a picture of it while driving on Reforma Avenue around Chapultepec. Nice car, always wondered who is the owner. Shoot me a PM if you are truly interested on selling it. Thanks and good luck!

This one is staying in Mexico City, unfortunately not in my garage

The seller (cheinze) just sent me a PM to let me know that his E500 Limited was SOLD to a car collector/enthusiast who lives in Mexico City. The new owner will pamper and keep it for the long-run according to cheinze.
