    AMG C55 W202 BODY

I know that AMG came out with the C43 for the W202 body, but this one is a C55. Performance must be awesome. Asking price is $73,000.

Wow, I wonder if this is an m119 or m119, or something different. I have seen others drop a 5.5L into their cars from newer E55's, but never one with the matching VIN plate. I will try and find links when I get back to a computer.

    Re: AMG C55 W202 BODY

The C55 is a limited production car sold in Europe and Japan. The US never received this version of the W202.

More or less its identical to a C43 except it has the powerplant from the E55, transmission from the CLK55, stiffer suspension, different rear end and R129 hubs. The C55 also has a 300 kph speedo.

It has been said that in Europe it was sold as an update package to the C43 (sort of how the E60 is sold as an upgrade package to the E50). 45 C43's were upgraded to C55 specs, but I am sure this number does not include AMG of Japan built cars.

More data on the C55 is available in the Wiki

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_C43_AMG

The price listed on that car is insane, as you can easily create your own C55 for well under 10k. (plus the price of a C43).

A friend of mine is planning this swap as well, so I have been assisting with locating the necessary parts and info. Should be a fun project

The VIN is C43 AMG not C55. Their are two Jap import C43 with undocumented C55 engine conversions over here,
    selling for ~ $12,000.

If this doesn't have further proof of an original AMG 55 conversion, I don't see a point of it being worth that much.

Reference my previous post and/or visit the wiki. The C55 is sold as a C43, then the buyer opts to have it converted to a C55. There were several models that were sold this way, the W202 C55 and the W210 E60. In the case of the E60, the VIN says E50 and has a different motor number, so expect the C55 VIN to decode to a C43 with a different motor number as well (4.3l motor)

To determine if it is a real C55, you would need some sort of Mercedes/AMG invoice or window sticker showing the conversion.

That's right. And as I mentioned, It should have documentation to prove it was converted by AMG to the 5.5L motor. This includes new Engine numbers and MOT differences from original car.

I agree, without any paperwork, you don't know if its a factory AMG car or a conversion that someone did. You just can't rely on the VIN to provide that documentation.
