    W210 Lowering Springs?

A good friend of mine parted a W210 E55 recently, and gave me the springs.

The springs are H&R and are a powdery-blue color. I've heard of people using W210 E55 springs on the 124 before, but not H&R.

I'd like to consider using them, since they were free. But wanted to make sure they'll even work. Anyone have any ideas? Just putting it out there, the SLS system was deleted. Thanks for the input all!

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

First you'd have to confirm the W210 springs are the same diameter as the W124, and you would also need to use the W210 spring pads as the tops are completely different (assuming the diameter matches). That said, I have no idea if the E55 springs would be even remotely correct for any W124, including a 500E with SLS delete.

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

thanks for the reply! I've read on a couple of forums that they are the same diameter and people are running them, I just was curious if anyone here has heard of it as well or has tried it...

I sat the springs in my own spring pads for a w124. and they sat correctly... Will try and do some more research before i start loosening bolts!

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

The top of the W124 springs are flat and sit in a rubber pad that has a flat seat inside.

The top of the W210 springs are NOT flat and sit in a rubber pad that has a pocket for the round coil.

Putting 210 springs in 124 rubber pads would be a Very Bad Idea.... IMO.

Bad idea indeed, but you could just use the W210 pad.

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

I have a set I acquired with the same thoughts in mind. I haven't had time to continue comparisons but I do know the rears are 1mm thicker wire diameter (than stock 036 springs) with all else being equal. Overall height with the W210 spring pad is 1.25 inches taller than the stock 124-036 spring. Space between coils is slightly less than stock 036 springs and progressive. I plan on swapping the stock springs back in soon and i'll be able to make a better comparison with my 036 H&Rs on a bench. I haven't looked at the fronts at all but will post all specs here in the future if anyone's interested.

I can pick up a set of spring pads for about $9 at work, I think I'll go with #2 W210 pads and give it a shot!

Apologies, missed that, I can confirm they are same diameter front and rear, and they do fit.

Cheaper I assume to remake the spring pad than to grind flat the springs.

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

I can tell you that w210 amg springs are way to stiff for the w124. Or let me say without cutting them it looks like a 4X4. I put them in my car years ago. I do not remember exactly but I had to cut a couple coils off. Nice and stiff on compression but the shocks do not have the appropriate rebound control to deal with the high spring rate.

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

What model 124 did you try them on and what shocks were you running? The H&R 210 fronts are the same wire diameter as the stock 036 fronts and are about 1.25 inches shorter. The H&R 210 rears are .4mm thicker wire than a H&R 124 wagon rear and 1.25 inches longer (1 coil). I can not measure my H&R 036 rears yet as they are still on the car.

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

It is a coupe. Does not really matter all that much. THey all weight pretty much the same withing a few hundred pounds total weight. The factory spring did not compress at all when I put it on the ground. I was really surprised because I would of though it was pretty close to the same as a 210 chassis. But I think the distance on the upper and lower perches must be really different in the 2 cars. As far as shocks. It really is what I have not tried. I will say this. I have no tried it on an sls system.
I am switching to the w209 clkamg shock shortly. I have made modified lower control arms to keep the shock length correct and spring length correct with lowering and widening the track. Long story but basically I have had about 10 different variations on the rear of the car. Springs, sway bars, shocks, control arms. Multiples of each.

    Re: W210 Lowering Springs?

    FINALLY got the springs in.

W210 E55 H&R lowering springs with #3 W210 Spring Pads all around. We actually cut HALF a coil in the rear, and put the front springs in as they were. Definitely going to need to get a #5 pad for the front.

The ride quality is simply amazing. I couldn't be happier with how it feels.

Other than the front being a bit too low, I'm content!

Good to know I have a set of Vogtland springs from my w210 along with number one pads.

Did you end up adjusting the height would like to see the final stance
