This just turned up for sale today at Al Balawi cars in Sharjah - initial price given over the phone when I called them was AED 44,000 (about 12 grand US).

Will get a good look and pics tomorrow, I think it's an S2 right?

That's odd, it looks like a 300km/h speedo?

Edit: ugh, n00b. It says AMG in the title. ./me slaps himself.

Yard was closed this morning but the car was in the back lot so had a bit of a peek. Exterior looks good, car appears to have no ASR (I believe they had 2.82 LSD fitted though), headliner is sagging, big chip in the front screen and somebody has glued a television stand to the centre of the dash pad - good luck getting that off without screwing the dash. Really clean underneath though. Will go have a closer look when the dealer is open tomorrow morning.

Have to say I am not particularly enamored with the way these look but love the concept of the stripped down car with no ASR / SLS, but with LSD, first gear start and a tad more horsepower than stock.

Weird and wonderful Mike but hate the standard body on it looks like a pure hayawan.
Stick to the plan and get that 6.0 mill into a stock 420 and keep it looking stock.
Besides 44k for this kelpa is a pure joke.
Hope the big S60 running well.

You can do that, but it would cost more than you'd pay for the car, to get it Federalized.

:(

No intention of buying it Osie, just posted up the pics because they are not very common vehicles and I thought people might be interested in seeing.

Interested in seeing you drop that M119 6.0 mill into something mate that's what we want to see! How is the S60 running hope you are behaving yourself as seen a W140 in Silver pass me like a Higgs-Boson particle on Emirates road like a boss, assuming that was you?

We do see quite a few ex Japan cars on the road here, but I suspect it's mostly re-export. Certainly at the free zone yards in Dubai, you will find large numbers of African buyers, along with Kazakh, Kyrghiz, Uzbek etc. looking to stock their own yards in their respective countries. Al Balawi do bring in higher grade auction cars and yes there is a small niche group of expatriate and local buyers with the means to splurge on what let's face it for most of these people are weekend toys, but they also have foreign customers who will come and take 10 cars at once, presumably for resale.

How rude of me Osie, didn't one of my people wave to you on the way past?

Actually I'm waiting for Taxi Driver to finish his Sledgehammer project, it's cheating I know.

Interesting info Fudge, I did suspect that very few cars are for domestic use (locals are not the type). We have a bad habit in the Gulf (Q8 in particular), the extreme trend effect: where something becomes in trend that everyone wants to own it no matter what!! these last for a duration 6 month- 2 years. Yes trends occur all over the world, but here its mindless and super exaggerated.

With JDM, it started in 2009 and died in 2011. When it was hot the w126s were going for $12500 some even more, now same car is being sold for $3500..same with all other models (less extent with the 500E).. its a stupid market over here.

Same in Saudi, they used to come here buying W140 600, though they don't have someone to fix them in the whole country, hence driving to UAE and Q8...that didn't last long too.

It appears that the Borat bunch are grabbing what's left for re-export, at least they are more appreciative of the car's values.

Wow - finally I've got a chance to view the PN on the 300kph AMG speedo face plate.
I would really like to get one of those.

Thanks for posting! :-)

Good man Mike and good to see you are keeping up the chat with the big bad S60.

Sledgehammer project sounds most grin inducing indeed.

Yes rare, and in very nice condition, but it still sat on their lot for 7 months before it sold just a few weeks back I believe.
