Hello Valerian:

I use to live in Beaulieu-sur-mer for a few years, in the early 90's. I use to go to the African Queen for lunch a few times per week, was dating a gal who worked at the Rive dealer. She got to use the Super Aquarama evey so often, better almost) than a 500E.
There was a Museum just off the A8 near Mougins, they had a swap meet (autojumble) every September. I was wondering if the place is still open.
There was also a big swap meet in Lyon evey year.

Kind Regards

Ron

I love the French spec headlights with the yellow highbeams. Are the foglights yellow tinted glass or is it just the bulb that makes them yellow?

I am also only 26, very few young men our age appreciating and driving 500E's

For normal driving light color, there has a small bell attached plastic yellow over the bulb :

For fog lamps in the bumper, there has a big piece change as it is made entirely of glass yellow :

I have bought a gearbox from 500E here for 300 €.
The original box of the car is too damaged, I have bought another cheap but in better condition, however it needs to be reconditioned anyway.
€ 1,700 to remake the new gearbox.
The engine was replaced by "standard exchange"? (I do not know how you tell when a part is replaced with a new one from the factory)
The engine was replaced at 50 000 kms for manufacturing defects.
I have followed all of the car, all books, all papers, documents and even 1992.
It is written on the pen and signed by the seller, the order of the car.
I'll put a picture if you want, but it's written in French?

Each of those German Weihenstephan beers was USD $15.00... but damn, were they tasty :wine: (and also a major sponsor (http://www.oldtimerfreunde-freising.de/) of the annual Alpentour I go on).

Cheers,
Gerry

Gerry, believe it or not but my uncle (passed away now) was brewmaster @ Weihenstephan (which happens to be the oldest brewery in the world). My father's family is from Freising. Ever tasted Korbinian, their Doppelbock? Drink two and you have no problems for the rest of the day. Just don't drive.....

gerryvz
12-14-2012, 10:57 AM
Wow, small world! Very sweet! I can get Korbinian (as well as their Hefeweizen, Dunkel-hefeweizen & Kristall beers) at my local HEB grocery store here, actually :)

I have spent many afternoons at Weihenstephan at the bierstube. They are a major sponsor of the Oldtimerfreunde-Freising car club (http://www.oldtimerfreunde-freising.de/), the president of which is a close friend of mine and whose annual Alpentour (http://www.oldtimerfreunde-freising.de/Termine%202012/Alpentour%202012/Alpentour%20Review%202012/alpentour%20review%202012.html) I go on every June.

What was your uncle's name? I will ask my friend if he knew him.

All of his cars, including the silver Pagoda that I drive (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151241013693572.547331.821723571&type=1&l=f271fa756c) on the Alpentour, have "FS" (Freising) license plates as he's in that Landkreis, although Thomas actually lives in the small village of Kranzberg just outside of Freising (http://goo.gl/maps/8867Q) proper. The Weihenstephan brewing school/bierstube is less than a 5-minute drive from his house, though.

Perhaps next year I can get Jelmer or Christian to co-drive the Alpentour with me... ;-)

Cheers,
Gerry

Wow, much to do. Very impressive. Please keep the pictures coming!

One question, though: would you mind uploading your pictures to the forum, instead of an external image host? The host you have selected loads very slow for me, and if they decide to stop serving images, we lose all nice pictures in this thread! If you need help with this, please read http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showwiki.php?title=Uploading_images, if that doesn't work for you, please let me know and I'll assist you.

Thanks!

I'm curious about the starter rebuild. Has anyone had a problem with a slow starter (i.e., cranks the engine too slowly), that was cured by taking it apart and replacing certain parts? I always thought the fault is a bad armature but I'm not sure. There isn't much information about this.

My starter is OK, but when I have removed the gearbox, I have also removed the starter wanted was more easily accessible without the gearbox to rebuild before that it is down

Doesn't appear to be a common failure then? Only one I can think of from here is Gerry's, not sure if he rebuild his.

The ones you used are too high and not for heavy cars.

Not very common, no. I've never had an outright failure but my wife's E420 (with 200kmi) had been cranking over slower than normal for a while, regardless of battery voltage. On a whim I swapped in a good spare I had and voila, cranking speed went back to normal. I may take the old one apart just to see if anything is obviously worn out inside.

I replaced my starter with a new Bosch unit. It had been weak and a bit slow to crank for a while (a couple of years) very much like a weak battery sounds. No problems since that time. I believe I replaced the starter about exactly this time of year, in 2007.

Given the price of a new/rebuilt Bosch starter, I don't believe the ROI of removing, disassembling, replacing parts and re-installing is worth it. (Of course, that could also be said for the 126 brake caliper rebuild that I did yesterday, too!).

Cheers,
Gerry

Je te réponds en Anglais , c'est plus compréhensible pour les membres du forum ;)

I'll personnally never do this just because i'm too conservative for that , if i want an E500 i'll buy one not an 500E to convert in E500.

Since your car is not a super low miles collectible garage queen , then it's cool .

I like the way your car is right now , i 'm a sucker for mopf1 , if i were you i'll just paint the trunk strip/handle in silver and leave it that way .

To answer a few questions,
My father was the 500 SEC. Following an engine failure and vandalism of the bodywork later, he was put in the trash.
At this point, I 'was 16 years old and I offered it.
I have discovered the mechanics alone on this car and have done a lot of work to run again.
I have a friend, an old man, who has a CL 500 and 230 SL Pagoda.
It is difficult for him to use and repair the SL. So I volunteered to do it for him. Now the car is at home, but occasionally, I'll get to take a ride with him, and he asked me if I authorizes a drive! lol (he tells me sometimes the CL 500)
Then I have purchased in 2011, the 500E with work to do it.
I have paid € 3,900.
And last mercedes a 300 CE 24 sportline cabrio that I have purchased € 500.
I hope to have some answer to your questions.
Everyday I ride with an Opel Corsa 1992 Turbo diesel, which consumes almost nothing and that cost me nothing.

Hello Valérian,

Just for your information. Some users here may not be able to see all photos you have linked up from your photohost. However, that is a minor problem, but the big problem comes when/if you change photohost, or the photohoster make updates affecting your user account, or change their IP adress, or they simply disappear.

It's in fact several potential risks with photohosting, so my advice is to post all photos as attachements.
