Hi guys i have been a lurker around this forum and have been looking for a 500e for a while now. 5 days ago i had a local lady trying to sell her 500e on craigslist and after negotiating for 3 days and a pre purchase inspection, the car is mine finally :)
I will post pics soon.

Please start your own "OWNER - okcrolex" thread in the "Owners and Their Cars" sub-board. Take lots of photos and tell us as much as you can about your story, history of the car, any mods it has, what you want to do to it, etc.

Congrats on the purchase. In addition to some photos of the car...I'd like to hear a little bit about this lady that drives a 500E.

Sorry guys, been at work all weekend and have tomorrow off so i"ll clean it up and post some pics tomorrow. As for the car it is a 1992 with 120K and was sold new in Oklahoma. The lady i bought it from said her husband was the second owner. The car has been sitting in their garage for around a year due to her husband being diagnosed with liver cancer. The car is not mint and needs minor work done to it. But with everything being original on the car i was pleased with it.
PS: I have not driven it yet as th6e battery is dead but according to the PPI the car needs only minor stuff. I will be needing a lot of guidance and help from the 500e community soon!!!!!

I drove the car today for a few minutes and washed it real quick. I heard a howling noise and according to the PPI i need a new ETA. The car drives fine. I have not floored the gas yet but i can feel the power!!!. Any idea on where to get a rebuilt eta and to get 500e parts cheap?

okcrolex, welcome to the board. If I can give my .02 cents worth of advice, do not use self serving car washes, unless you want to scratch the clear-coat and potentially the paint.

Do you have a good shop in OKC that can work on the car?

03-25-2013, 10:31 PM
There are a few shops but they all charge a ton. $2200 for a eta. I also have a power steering leak. And they quoted me $1100 to fix that.

Depending on what the leak is (short hose, pump, steering box or one of the hoses between them, $1,100 may not be a bad price. It's a fairly labor intensive job to do anything BUT the short hose....

I spy a missing tow hook cover :D

You can do the work yourself for a lot less. A new ETA from parts.com is ~$1400, rebuilt from Beckmann ~$800.

The power steering leak is usually NOT the pump, just hoses, under $100 total in parts. If the pump is leaking, it's under $50 for the seal kit, or worst case ~$500 for a rebuilt pump.

Or, find a cheaper shop...
