Thanks for starting this, Clark. But, I think TIE fighter rather than Deathstar, is a better analogy for an .034 :-)

Vader expects a lot from his Death Star.

Thank you, 100% original paint and interior. I'll try and get some more pictures up with good camara
and proper lighting. I purchased it from the original owner through the MB dealer in St Petersburg, Florida.

When I bought is on August 3rd in 2011 it had 113K miles on it, garaged since day one and it shows
Door pockets are perfect and not a hint of peeling.

All the wood is very nice as well.

I will get some pics of the interior which is exceptional
for being original. It's what really sold me on this car.

The paint as well is impressive for 21 years old.

The condition of the car overall is due to being garaged it's whole life

Also car was sold at the Miami delaer and has been
a Florida car all it's life.

It is nice you keep it stock !

Why do not you get Euro headlights with vacuum and euro wipers ?

clarkz71
10-16-2014, 07:33 AM
Because it is 100% stock the way it left Sindelfingen, I don't want to change anything.

I do like euro headlamps/wipers but not on this particular car.
Even the spare is the original Pirelli with correct date code.

I also have the window sticker that the first owner saved.
Sticker price was $56,400

Always liked that body color combo on the W-124's. Only thing I would change is the wheel tire combo and go with the 8 lug 16's instead of the 15's to keep the stock look.
You have the same issues here I do with mine in the car looking unbalanced front to rear in the way those wheels tires and tires sit in the wheel wells. The 16 8 holes just fill the wells better + let you run more tire than the crazy tiny things they used on these cars in the US. It also get's you away from the now considered obsolete 15's and gives you a LOT more in speed rated tire choices.
Your interior from the photos i have seen is as nice as mine is is it not also Cream Beige like mine?

gsxr
10-16-2014, 01:51 PM
...is it not also Cream Beige like mine?
Clark's interior is Palomino.

Yours is Parchment, not Cream-Beige, but that's worse than a synthetic oil discussion.

Roma_500E

Correct, Palomino is a classic Mercedes interior color.

Let me say it again , - Palomino is the best (top) choice for the MB interiors back that time.

Today the only replacement I see is polar white designo leather, otherwise palomino is still a winner IMHO.

Some shots in my parking garage. Paint is 100% original single stage, non clear coat 147

Need to go outside for interior shots, but I have one of the back seat
for color reference.

Thanks Colonel, It took me a while to find it.

I was amazed when it looked better in person then in the Auto trader pictures.

I had to fly into Tampa from Ft Lauderdale to go see it. One way ticket so I rolled the dice.
Worked out good, except for the transmission going a month later............

Good thing I got it for cost, $2597 + $150 for a rebuilt local converter

I don't know why the service advisor put black as my interior color......

My first transmission service on the NEW Mercedes reman unit is coming up

Picked up 12 liters of MB 236.14 fluid, same as I used over 3 years ago.
Very happy with the shift quality of this fluid.

Fixate all you want, over 3 years of using 236.14 from new, and the 722.366 transmission shifts perfect.

And I believe I'm in a better position to judge the fluid and it's use in my transmission then anyone on the board.

Mercedes parts warranty dept said no problem using this fluid, warranty not affected

A Petro Chemical engineer involved in MB fluid development for years including this 236.14 fluid
told me it was an excellent choice, and I drive the car everyday and know a great shifting transmission.

Hi Clark,
Sorry for the late reply. My inbox gets completely clogged.

Your transmission was designed to operate on Dexron IID type products. I consider the use of 236.14 approved fluid to be an excellent choice. Being mostly synthetic & with the right sort of friction modifiers it should enhance transmission life. It might cause slightly greater shift shock but at least you won't flair & burn clutches.

A lot of crap is spoken out there and the viscosity issue is completely misunderstood. 236.14 products are very high VI (viscosity index). Mineral DexII products are not. High VI products start thin but thin far less with temperature rise than low VI products like DexII.

The viscosity of 236.14 will do no harm whatsoever in the 722.3 transmission. Do not use the new Blue 234.15 fluid as it is not backward compatible.

People that tell you that their transmission is so smooth after using Redline or whatever are playing with fire. The only reason it feels smoother is that it is allowing more clutch slip which leads to higher temperatures, wear & failure.

Good luck!

From Klink

And I would also use the 14 without the slightest second thought in a nice tight transmission.

The airfilter mount question reminded me to replace my
3 year old air filters. Replaced them when I bought the car
in 2011. The filters were date coded April-12-2011

I replaced them again with genuine MB filters, date coded March 7 2014

They are indeed Mann C 33 102 availible at Autohaus AZ for under $10 each
but I spent the extra $3 each for MB. Makes me feel better............:o

I also recieved genuine MB transmission filter, pan gasket, drain plugs
for pan and converter and seal rings. All from Lionel.

clarkz71

Tow hook cover was $30, I removed the chrome plate and installed the filler panel, $60

The interior required nothing, is in new condition, and I prefer Palomino.

I would have chosen it if I was buying a new 400E in 1993.

I was just teasing. I figured you replaced the row hook cover promptly. I could never understand why people avoid so furiously buying a new one for years. Even 500e's have come up for sale more then once with theirs missing and still the seller has the nerve to call the car "mint".

Your 400 is pretty much the cleanest one I've seen. I'm not normaly a fan of palomino, but must admit it looks smashing in such good repair.

As far as I know, the MB accessory version is NLA. As are floor mats.

But the company is still in business, best sunshade on the market.

Mine is original to the car, so 20 years and still going.

Yep, I can endorse them 100%

My wife bought a 2013 Corolla in May

I ordered one for her car, perfect fit, and still made the same way
my year old version is.

Anyone who needs a sunshade, there is no better brand
They are all vehicle specific, and even model year specific.

For example, hers only fits 2011-2013 Corolla. 3 model years.

I have the Covercraft sun shades for my cars too, since the OE branded one got too expensive for my tastes. Covercraft has them in multiple colors as a bonus, the OE only comes in silver. I ordered my Covercrafts via Amazon.

OE = BQ6670002 = $83 MSRP, wholesale around $65, Lionel maybe $60?

Covercraft UVS100 at Amazon = $48 delivered

Find the part number at the Covercraft website, then search Amazon for that part number:

Agreed. I think you will have some nice cars to pick from in that price range. Did you see the silver one in SoCal? The PPI listed a bunch of minor mechanical work that you could take care of cheap with DIY labor (fluids, hoses, engine mounts, etc).

I could do worse, no problems at all since August when I bought it.

Can't say the same for Ascension and his E420

lol, they're actually 2005 DeVille Touring Sedan wheels, new with new tires.

The previous owner spent a fortune in this car.

There have been a few white 500e's. I don't particularly find it appealing color for an 036.. but that may work for you in price.

I know where a nice silver one is- but it has black interior.

Glad to see you are back on the list. Thanks again for making up the wire set for my car.
