:welcome: and congrats!

So, did you end up buying this car: WDBEA36E4NB767481

If so, please tell us a little bit more about the car and what you have planned for it.

I am currently in the process of purchasing this vehicle. The car is owned by a friend of mine who owns a German auto repair shop. He let me put down a deposit and is giving me time to sell my 86 560SL. I have owned the SL for 20 + years but I now have 2 children and the wife says it is time to get rid of the 2 seater. In the past I have owned a 300 Turbo Diesel, a 560 SEC and a Porsche Boxster so this car is seems like a natural progression. I am only in the California 4 months of the year so the 500E will get very few miles put on it!
This forum is really great and I am in awe of the knowledge that resides here! I look forward to learning more and sharing what I do with my new car!

I have both the 560 SEC and the E500, and I am going 30 days on/30 days off with each car, doing required MX during the down time. I really miss the E500, so I understand the "progression" term you used. Welcome and you will find no finer stable of wisdom and experience regarding these beasts. You are in the right place!

Does everything (besides the rims) look stock to you?

Does everything (besides the rims) look stock to you?Everything per your photos looks stock except wheels, and two other things:

1) Front turn signal lenses are clear, probably aftermarket. They should be amber.
2) Can't tell from photo "for sure" but it looks like there is an alarm blinker LED in the center console that is drilled through a hole directly in the wood. That wouldn't be stock - MB used a black rectangular plug that slotted into one of the stock cutouts on the center console wood for the factory alarm LED.

And, (don't quote me on this, GSXR will correct me) I think the factory alarm LEDs were only used in the 1994 US model year cars?!? Maybe they were used in all model years, I can't remember. I do know that the 1994 cars only had one non-cut-out area in the switch row on the center console wood above the climate controls; earlier .036 cars had two non-cut-out areas on the wood.

Cheers,
Gerry

Factory alarm LED's appeared on 1993 USA model years.

Did the 500E come with a radar detector? I have a turn knob on the far left side of dash and a F and R light on the instrument cluster. Stock?

No, that sounds like a K40 system. Definitely aftermarket...and about useless today.

Nope. There was never a factory fuzzbuster. Sounds like a K-40 installation based on your description.

K-40s still have some limited use for open-road & rural driving. A lot of state troopers & county Mounties still use X- K- & Ka-band radar which the K-40s can pick up, just not with the range and sensitivity of today's state-of-the-art units.

And nothing on newer frequencies & laser, of course.
