Hello All, I thought I would introduce myself a little better now that I am officially the owner of my own E500 :)

I'm also into Beamers, specifically old shape ones. One of my present projects here, where I am also an administrator: http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=22749

I'm born and bred in the U.K, but have recently started working in Oman for a minimum of 6 months - perhaps longer. I've been aware of 500e's since my teens, but ruled myself out from ever wanting one because of the rarity, price and running costs. I saw one for sale here while casually browsing the local dubizzle and then realised there were quite a few in this part of the world. I don't have to remind everyone the adventures I went through, but just in case anyone's not aware, have a good chuckle here http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8519 all I can say is thanks heavens I didn't buy the very dubious looking ones from Dubai in the hope of owning a cheap quality car like a 500e/e500.

Perseverance paid off eventually and I am now the proud owner of a late E500. It's a Japanese market car with got 71,000 KM on the clock, over 20,000 spent in maintenance from the official Mercedes dealer here. The floor mats have got an additional set on top of them and are also like new! The guy who checked the car out said it was lovely, but the wood is aftermarket. It's not quite the birds eye black maple from the limited if someone could confirm that? Anyway, I finally got hold of it today and some photos.

The previous owner told me some chrome trim around the buttons and heater dials was already present when he bought it and he just left it in place. I was sat in traffic and curiosity got the better off me, Anyway, I managed to detach most of them without damaging the wood finish. I just need to clean the glue and residue left at some point. Others were a but more stubborn and have stayed there. Any tips on how to remove the remaining ones and any comments and information in general would be most appreciated :)

From the looks of it, it's a very nice car!

However I was informed that the japanese market cars all had the automatic climate control, but I could be wrong.

Silver is a very nice colour, drive safe.

Many thanks Marc, lowman, I have an uncle in Norway - on my wishlist to visit there! In response to your question, cars from Japan in general are low mileage. I personally feel a low mileage reading needs to align with the overall condition of the car. Since there are no squeaks and rattles, no real wear on the interior or exterior and what seemed like a very honest and diligent previous owner, I have full condfidence that the odometer is accurate.

The car I looked at previously in Dubai had 86,000 on the clock. Ironically this may have been genuine, but it was obvious the rest of the car had been doctored and neglected. So low mileage on its own doesn't mean a thing. I'd rather have a high mileage car that I know had been looked after. In my case low mileage and looked after was very positive!

Congrats and welcome on board! :-)

I cannot view your pics here at work since they're linked to a photo hoster. However, based on your description it sounds like a decent object. And that low mileage gives at least a 5 year mileage bonus, because the majority of the 036s world wide has passed 150.000km now. But it depends on how much you plan to drive it of course.
Good luck with your new ride!:nobmw:

Cheers

Looks nice. Interesting that it has the horn switch...must have been added post-production.

The two-tone horn was available as option "Fanfare Zweiklang (452)", so it is probably factory fitted.

Hi Newbie,

Welcome to the board. It looks like you snagged a nice 500E. I hope you enjoy it.

I just came back from the great UK. Had a wonderful time except for that damn driving on the wrong side of the road. I think it would be easier in my 500E.

Hope we see a lot of you here on the board.

Take Care

Thank you everyone. Really appreciate the warm welcome. I'm not a serial car forum joiner, but I've encountered some ones that are quite aggressive and less than helpful. This and bmwe21.net are by lovely in comparison. Also appreciate the additional info - I wasn't sure what that horn option was either!

Hope to get more involved as I stay - thanks again!

Nice buy, love the dark wood. Very rare. Your 500 looks almost identical to mine except for that s600 grill. Interesting climate control though- I thought that was the euro option. Mine is from Germany and has the same dual climate control. Are you sure that's a Japanese export? Check if it has an oil cooler. I believe but I may be mistaken that German ones did have oil coolers and most Japanese ones didn't have oil coolers.

Hi Henry, sorry for the late reply. Yes, someone else said the same about the climate control. Maybe I should check for the oil cooler. I see you're in Dubai. Will have to give you a shout if I ever drive down.

Oooo! I may be interested in that - which left bracket do you have? There are 2 left and 2 right (all different p/n's)... I need at least one of each but need to check the p/n's. If you don't have a part number, can you post a photo?
