Wow, a DMM 5! That was absolutely "the shit" back in the day. Those became a recommended shop tool with the introduction of the 201 cars in late 1983. Much was made about the 201 introduction, particularly the electronically enhanced C I S/K-E fuel injection using a number of what were then low voltage and ultra-low current circuits. There was a desire for a super accurate and "idiot resistant" tester that could withstand workshop use. The oversized, overweight, over engineered, but yes, super accurate and idiot proof DMM5 was the proposed answer. Several portable handheld meters with the required accuracy, most notably by Fluke, arrived on the scene for about 1/10 the price shortly afterwards. Just about every serious technician bought himself one of the new Flukes, and after that time the resplendent DMM5 gathered dust in the tool room, where it continued to exemplify old-school M-B overkill...
