    Baltimore / Annapolis MD area

I stopped by an independent Benz shop today called "SilverStar Service Center" in Annapolis, MD. They are a full-service shop that handles both Benz and German car sales and service. I have seen them driving by for a long time, and they always have a nice selection of 126s, 129s, 201s and 107s and the like in their sizable lot for sale. They are well versed in servicing 124s, 126s, 107s, 210s, 211s, 129s, and the like. They have been in business for more than 30 years in the Annapolis, MD area.

I spoke with one of the owners at length and they are a good operation and true Benz enthusiasts. If I lived in the area I would have no qualms about taking my cars to them if needed. They are open M-F and by appointment at other times.

I've looked at a car or two there over the years. Seem like OK folks.

This place is only an hour away from me. I think I will give them a try. Some of you are probably thinking that an hour is a long way to drive for a repair shop, but living in DC, depending on which way you're going, it can take an hour or even two hours to just go a few miles. Besides, it is a lot closer than the last shop I drove to. 10 or 11 hours to get to Jono's shop in the Atlanta area.

I was up that way last weekend for a 4 hour driving excursion. I checked out Road and Track's suggestion for the best scenic drive in Maryland:

    http://www.roadandtrack.com/about/g6...ntry/?slide=20

This doesn't give an actual route, so I made my best guesses and whenever I saw a sign for a Scenic Byway, I took it. It was scenic I guess, but not really a fun drive. A lot of long, straight and empty country roads. It's fun to mash the pedal every now and then, but that's not enough to make the trip worth it.

The weekend before I drove through 3/4 of the Skyline Drive. Much better and I was only briefly stuck behind lollygaggers 3 or 4 times. Now that the leaves have pretty much all fallen or turned brown, there aren't many sightseers.

    Yeah,
But you know Jono is worth the drive and I'm sure you enjoyed the trip.

    Hey,

Have you gave them a try? How was it? If you're still in DC area, whom do you use? I just moved here from CA and looking for the right shop. Thanks

I’m really happy with Sterling Star Automotive - http://www.sterlingstarautomotive.com/.

Website says they work on Mercedes and BMW but I’ve only ever seen Mercedes there. The owner, GP, is a former dealer tech and is familiar with the W124.

I've heard good things about the place that Melville posted... Sterling Star.

And then there's the other indie in Vienna... Silver Star
    https://www.silverstarmotorsvienna.com/

The buyer of my E63 had Silver Star do the PPI. His family has been using them for a couple decades.

I use Euro Motor Cars in Bethesda for warranty/new Merc service.

    Baltimore / Annapolis MD area

Due to a couple or five recommendations to other members of this forum about repair shops and sellers I know well, whom said members have had bad experiences with, I can & will no longer officially or unofficially make any recommendations about shops or sellers of MBs.

Plus, I have never actually had any work done at the shop I mentioned in Annapolis at the beginning of this thread.

So, without deleting my post outright, please disregard it as any type of active endorsement of Silver Star Service in Edgewater/Annapolis as a maintainer and seller of MBs.

Forum members are welcome to make recommendations as they want to and at their own risk. And if you do so, you can catch the flak and blame from other members here when something goes south with their satisfaction level about the transaction.

I have personally chosen, going forward, to keep all interactions with shops I have passing or intimate knowledge of, to myself. Just because I personally choose to mention a business or company, and talk about it here in the future, is NOT a recommendation nor endorsement of said company.

Any posts I have made in the past about various businesses, such as Sun Valley Transmission in California; MB of Naperville in Illinois (www.mboemparts.com); the MB Classic Center in Irvine, CA; MB of Annapolis, MD (www.getmercedesparts.com); G.R. Auto Care in Spring, TX; and MBI Motors in Portland, OR; should also be disregarded as endorsements of these businesses. In all cases, this is absolutely not because of anything they did to me, but rather my own personal decision based on reported complaints and problems by forum members.

    Cheers,
    Gerry
