Tell me about it. I've asked Phils Euro if they can squeeze me in to redo the head while I'm waiting. Keeping my fingers crossed.

As mentioned in the other thread, myself and another forum member ran into similar delays last spring due to bad timing. Sometimes you're just stuck unless you are willing to pay a high premium (or, settle for a lesser transporter). If it's only 2 weeks, that really isn't bad.

Quick update. Vehicle is at Phil's European, who graciously agreed to store while we await transport pickup. Intercity is hoping to collect by end of coming week, but could slip until the following week. Good news is its given me time to clean-out the garage and organize all of my parts, tools, and accessories

Cleanest W124 I've ever seen. It's almost as if it just came off the show room floor. Unbelievable!

Yeah, really surprised just how nice the color is. Photos don't really do it justice

The car sat at Phil Jr.'s German EuroService in NJ for 2 wks waiting for pickup. I told them they could do main seal, but they said they were too booked up and just couldn't squeeze me in. So, something on my to do list. Need to find a competent Norcal shop. Not sure I want this car to be my first.

Amazing how the ‘95s look so different just because of the wheel finish.

The great thing is that you can use the car while you figure out what shop to use. Sometimes its best to just let you and the car ‘break in’ a bit before you decide to do anything major. Lets you get used to it

Somehow this just looks so *right* in front of those vines. And I love the color. And the finish on the wheels. And BTW --- did you see that the 17K miles one on BAT is up to USD 23K already? Looks like w124 is having its day in the sun....

Actually, leather seats, with cloth seat covers in the front. But I think I'm going to remove DS seat cover, as it's just not my thing

I'm having absolutely no trouble falling in love with this car.

I had no idea how Orange the instrument cluster dials really are, as every car I've ever had has sat in the Sun and the dials were faded.

Also, the 104 engine is quite spiffy. I have to be careful when I initially depress the accelerate from a stop, so as not to spin the back tires.

By the way, I can't believe how clean the engine compartment is. I opened the hood and just couldn't stop laughing.

Funny, the previous owner of my car sent me the link to that ad. I guess he thinks he could have gotten more for his. I actually think he's right, as from the photos of the one on BAT, I'd say mine is in better condition.

And yes, it goes well with the vines. I'll have to post a pic in front of a field of Mustard Greens, which some farmers plant in-between the vines. Wild backdrop.

Now everyone is going to start thinking their lowly M104 powered 124 that is in halfway decent shape and 100K miles is a $15K+ car, because of this BAT anomaly. Which is fine, but I don’t think the market is going to bear $20K+ prices for M104 cars. Not even 400Es, unless they were cream of the crop.

It will be interesting to see if the deal even gets consummated for this 17K mile M104 taxi spec car.

Hey! Stop raining on our parade, Honch. That pedestrian (zips up flame suit) .032 sale just boosted our .036 values by ten grand, easy!!

If you’d just have hung onto that optioned-out Stag wagen, just think of what it would be worth now.....

I know, right? No worries, the current owner will probably let me know if he ever decides to let it out of his sight. Not that I could afford it in the future, based on current market trends.

Congrats on the new car. It looks like you got a winner. One question I have is about the lower cladding color. It appears to be the same as the upper. Is that stock or is it just the lighting that makes it look the same?

That's just great. If I ever get the 420 into good enough shape to make the trip back down to the bay area, I'd love to see it in person! Really happy for you Steve!

It appears to be the same color, and doesn't appear to be resprayed. I'm taking her in to the Mercedes dealer tomorrow to get her detailed, as I like the detailer there and have developed a pretty good relationship with the parts guys. They should be able to confirm that it's original.

By the way, anyone have any recommendations on a Shift Knob replacement? I think I'd like to put in a wood one.

Certain paint colors, on certain years, had matching bumpers/cladding instead of contrasting. Paint code 721 (Moonstone / Onyx Grey) is one of those, per EPC this is factory (screen shot below).

Paint is code 721, the USA name for that color is Moonstone Gray. Elsewhere is was Onyx Gray Metallic. Pretty rare color!

If you want a low-mile, nicely-optioned car, I think you could spend many months searching for something half as nice as this one.

PS. Spoke to my mates at local Mercedes Parts & Service today, and showed-off the new purchase. They had the same reaction I did..... they couldn't stop laughing. They couldn't believe the condition of all of the body seals - no shrinkage, no sign of wear, as new. Paint is in pristine condition. Interior colors of all surfaces are bright and as new. Engine compartment looks like it's never been driven. Actually, they couldn't figure out how this car already had 40K miles on it, nor how it has been kept in such good condition.

Bottom line, they tried to convince me to keep my old W124, and to NOT make this new one my daily driver. Their quote was, "this car is too valuable to drive on the roads on a regular basis."

    Fun stuff.
