    FS: 17K-Mile 1994 E320 - BAT (Neptune, NJ)

No affiliation but I wish there was (like it was mine). This E320 looks ridiculous, even the perfect color combo for that matter (at least IMO). I'm very curious to see what this will sell for

    VIN = WDBEA32E4RCC039827

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...s-benz-e320-3/

    17K-Mile 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320

This 1994 Mercedes-Benz E320 shows just 17,614 miles and was acquired by the selling dealer from the original owner last month. Power is provided by a 3.2-liter M104 inline-six said to be in stock specs and paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Detailed photos in the gallery highlight the overall condition of the car and provided records document a recent tune-up, along with new fuel pumps, fuel filters, thermostat, tires, and a full oil and filter change. This W124 is offered on behalf of a dealer in New Jersey with the original book and manuals, window sticker, a clean Carfax, and a clean New York title .

The Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) finish and gray lower cladding are said to be largely original, with some evidence of cosmetic paintwork noted on the trunklid. Factory 15″ 8-hole alloys wear a new Continental ContiPro Contact tires fitted by the seller. Optioned in Black soft leather upholstery (261) with matching carpeting and trim, cabin wear is shown in detail in the main gallery. All instrumentation, controls, and power accessories are said to remain in proper working order. The odometer presently reads 17,614 miles and is believed to be accurate. The normally-aspirated 3.2-liter M104 inline-six produced 231 horsepower and 229 ft-lbs of torque when new and remains in stock specification. Maintenance performed within the past couple weeks by the seller includes new fuel pumps, thermostat, fuel filters, full oil and filter change, and tune-up. Numerous photos are included in the gallery that highlight the condition of the car’s underside and componentry.

    Re: FS: 17K-Mile 1994 E320 - BAT (Neptune, NJ)

That may be the cleanest undercarriage I've ever seen besides 600Eric's 500E.

Shame this car has no options besides metallic paint... no heated seats, no ASR, no memory seats, no adjustable steering column, no headlight washers, no roller blind, no Sportline package, no ortho seats, etc. Not even a CD changer! The green coolant is easy enough to fix, but why oh why did the alarm installers drill into the shift console wood to mount that red LED?

Neat time capsule. I'll guess it ends up somewhere in low 20's, maybe?

EDIT: Looks like one of our 500Eboard forum members may never enjoy the bliss of the M119:

I like to think if Mercedes engineers were limited to just one model, they would make it the W124 sedan with a 6 cylinder.
There’s something special about the sedan version of the mid range model in mid range spec. I’d prefer this to any coupe or R129.

Seller is Dean Laumbach - he specializes in that type of car. He is probably responsible for the cleanup of the undercarriage.

I'd put my 500E undercarriage up against it - it'd be close....

It can only be his if there is pictorial evidence that the car has been completely disassembled and each part cleaned prior to reassembly.

    Auction ends this afternoon.
    Bidding stands at $24,5

I gotta admit that I just don't see the appeal of this particular car. Yes, it's in stellar condition. But what do you do with it? There's nothing special about it. At least not that I can see. So do you drive it and suffer the commensurate drop in value? You keep it in your garage as an oddity?

I'm just not feeling the pull with this particular vehicle, and I do get suckered in by ultra-minty cars.

It’s been pointed out on the peanut gallery, but it’s well established that 35K mile E320s in great
Condition are going for about one-third of this price.

Every mile one puts on this car is going to see dollars visibly floating away in its wake.

It's already gone higher than I estimated. I have the same questions, btw... I mean, it's near-taxi-spec with the lack of options, and the color combo is not unique. Sure is pretty though!

I know this was semi-hinged trolling, but I believe the car being referred to is this one, at 43kmi (not 35k) plus more options, and a rare color combo too. 'Tis all academic at this point, anyone paying $30k+ for the 17k'er (few more miles and it's allowed to drink premium!) is clearly not concerned about the price.

    c0rbin9

1990-1992 hold a special place in my mind as they were the final years before the switch to water-based paint and less robust rustproofing treatment, though I vacillate on whether the body integrity of the earlier models or the slightly increased refinement of the ’94+ models takes precedent.
I'm still calling BS on the above claim, btw. I think lowman is the only other person I'm aware of that insists the facelift cars rot away 10x faster than pre-facelift. AFAIK, the paint and rustproofing problems began with the W210 E-class, not on the late 124 production. Hopefully more people start believing this as I'll take a 94-95 facelift model any day over the same model/color/options pre-facelift. Drive those prices down on E500's, baby! w00t!!

I’ve personally never deigned to troll on the whole facelift-rustproofing meme, and only with snideness on the facelift-Porsche-manufacturing meme.

I am still waiting for photographic proof that facelift cars rust faster and more completely than pre-facelift cars. Or, that MB changed its rustproofing methods with the facelift changeover.

Which reminds me....I recently heard that facelift W124 cars’ front spring perches rust out, with no spring perch rust on pre-facelift cars. Sort of like W210 perches. Is this true?

Sold for $24,500 to David, eh!

My $0.02... the odometer was worth at least $15k, and the undercarriage brought at $10k premium.

600Eric, when do you take delivery?

I was thinking $15-17K. Maybe $20 if the moon and stars aligned.

$25,725 with the Buyer's vig seems like a lot of dosh to me. Buyer appears to have registered on BaT specifically for that auction. He must have *really* wanted that car.

Well, there’s always the oddball out there who has a fetish for a particular car, and the dough to get whatever they want.

Cross that with a fetish for low miles cars (we’ve had a couple of those types here on this forum in the past) and you get potential for some unhinged-level prices. I’m talking folks that pay 2-3 times what the market norm is.

Then you get al these owners who pop out of the woodwork trying to sell their cars, thinking that the “unhinged buyer” price is a new market norm.

They get slapped back to reality pretty quickly.

The peanut gallery on this car over at Banzworld 124 is pretty entertaining. I actually have to admit (though I loathe to) that I agree nearly 100% with Q*Baert’s comments in that thread about this car.

126 models are commanding far higher prices than W140 models at this time.

My favorite is the short wheelbase 300SE. When I was in undergrad, I borrowed a nearly new 300SE from a super kind gentleman and embarked on a road trip from SF to LA and back, all on hwy 1 - the Pacific Coast Highway. All 10 hours of it each way. Through the endless switchbacks and hairpin turns, I developed a keen appreciation for the quality of the w126, and marveled how the 300SE felt so light on its feet (6 cyl up front) yet never felt underpowered. Also, on that trip, I went camping in the Joshua Tree national park with what felt like at the time to be the Mountain Dew guys in their open top International Harvester Truck .... all in the 300SE.

Shortly after that seminal experience, the 500E was released. I remember daydreaming about the 500E in physics class and the rest is ... history.

The critical takeaway from this story is... you didn't buy a W126.

So you’re essentially saying that you had a wonderful experience with the DarkCISide. Anakin —?

Good one! In truth I was tempted by the Dark CISide but I rejected it. The Dark CISide is my father no longer. The force - the true force (measured in lb-ft) - the force is stonger with the 500E.

We need Gerry to mothball his C126 and get a nice W210. Perhaps a red E60 or something. Anything to get him closer to the 21st century...

Many many here have already succumbed to the 126 DarkCISide. Trae, in particular, has very high genetic levels of CISclorians.

Others, such as Melville and 600Eric, have become full DarkCISide apprentices.

There are many here who have come to know the true power of the DarkCISide.

Changing the subject will never erase the inner hold the DarkCISide has on you.

Also, remember, early M119 models as found in the 500SL were CIS Powered.

How so improved? HP-torque Numbers? MPG? Reliability?

Eco-junk ETAs and wiring harnesses of LH 119s were an improvement?

    Yes, yes, and yes!

Not so much with the wiring, but c'mon, that is a 1-time replacement often taken care of already by a PO. Whining about the biodegradable insulation on LH engines is akin to snubbing Cindy Crawford due to her mole.

ME injection is a notch better overall IMO, but has the nuisance of DAS which locks the control units to the chassis, $$$ to unlock, can't chip 'em, so there is some downside to ME.

I do not think HP and torque were materially different with CIS vs. LH. Reliability? Completely debatable and subjective.

I’ll have to look at the MPG specs.

No eco-junk on CIS 119s ever, not to mention CIS EZLs are more reliable.

    Cap/rotor/insulator issues? Nope.

Yes, I felt the calling of the true power of the C126 DarkCISide when Louis tempted me with a bright, shinny C126 in Albuquerque, then, I advanced even further than I thought possible, as I saved to acquire the Jonomobile.

At last, a year and a half ago, the DarkCISide's calling was too strong to resist and I drove the Jonomobile its new home beside its brother.

Still torn by the LH force, I felt compelled to drive another 93' 500E home to keep the others company.

So, I live a conflicted life between LH and CIS forces that battle for time and resources.

What is one to do? Resistance is futile!
