What?? Holy cripes that's expensive. I shall check with my dealer today on the list price. Sometimes UK dealers use artistic license on pricing of parts I have seen this before myself. I hope that is not the case here

Re: Pancake connector loom for ETA

Im told germany replied to my dealers email saying that "this item has now been classified as a classic part and price has been revised accordingly".

I cannot send it back and have no recourse as I didnt ask price when I ordered the latest one...

Interesting. Still only $20 here in the US of A. Happy to order some and ship to overseas 500EBoard members.

I would be careful as when the dealer places the order, they will receive the new price, so I doubt they will sell and item to yor for $20 that will have cost them 10x that... But if you wish to experiment, please do report back! If so id buy 10 for sure.

Yes I’d be weary of placing an order online then being hit with the 10x fold increase. I am not concerned about having another one spare. The only use for these is to backwards convert a later ETA. (The early pancake ETA wires do not degrade)

I believe ALL ETA wires from 1992-1996 biodegrade.

I used to think that too, but it seems the early ones tend to have good wires... don't know why. Also not sure if there is a break point where this changed on the early (pre-facelift / pancake connector) ETA's.

Yes this is correct for most all ETA wiring of that era with the single exception of the Pancake type M119 ETA pigtails even original items produced in 1992 etc. I first learned this from Victor of restore your Mercedes .com (He specialises in Mercedes ETA & engine loom Rewiring) I had phoned him to discuss having my 500Es ETA rewired / tested by him when I had it out at one point. He ask me what type of plug and when I told him Pancake he advised he has never seen one of those with bad wiring to the point where he told me not to bother sending my 1992 pancake ETA to him. For extra comfort I did cut my 1992 pancake ETA loom carefully and found the wires to be pristine. This is the pic from when I had inspected them. (With 1992 date tag on the pigtail)

    IMG_0834.JPG IMG_0835.JPG

Since that time I have seen some members on 500E board do the same check on pancake pigtails and the wires were good. (Jay more recently) Any and all m119 rewiring threads I have seen also never feature a pancake m119 ETA. Later m119 units; but never pancake.

Thus unless I see evidence of even one failing wiring in a pancake ETA I believe they are one of the very few exemptions from Eco junk. If anyone begs to differ please do provide pictures of such a case I am open minded about it and would like to know / learn!
