    S29/3 problems

I had a fault code related to the S29/3 (Closed throtte position switch, fault code 14, pin 7 ASR E-GAS module). I replaced the switch with a genuine Mercedes-Benz part (correct part number).

After driving last night the rev limiter kicked in under high revs and high load (never happened before), and the idle feels a bit lumpy again, just not as smooth.
The same fault code is back.

The car in question is a 1993 500E euro spec.

What should I look for? What are the obvious culprits?

Do you still get blink code 14 on pin 7 after clearing codes? Are any other codes present on any other modules? It might be difficult to diagnose without access to a digital scanner that shows live data.

Did you hit the rev limiter near redline (6000+ rpm), or below 6k?

The lumpy idle is probably not related to either of the above.

    Re: S29/3 problems

After the switch was replaced the code was cleared, so it has reappeared for sure.
There aren’t any other fault codes.
The rev limit kicked in very near 6000 rpm for some reason.
The idle isn’t super lumpy, but not as smooth as when the engine is cold.

    Re: S29/3 problems

The tach isn't always exactly accurate, so it may have actually hit the stock rev limit of 6300rpm. That is typically a transmission issue, as the WOT upshift is mechanically controlled, unless the shifter is in "B" position at full throttle (IIRC). May not hurt to double-check the S29/3 installation / adjustment.

This thread may help a little:

For the idle, have you checked the ignition system, and gapped the non-resistor plugs to ~1.0mm?

Okay! I replaced ignition leads, rotors and spark plugs last year, I will double check the gap and recheck the S29/3 installation
