Re: HELP! ASR/ABS PUMP RUNNING 180s..

When the ASR pump runs for 3 minutes followed by an MIL, it's usually a sign the precharge pump under the master cylinder is failing to build pressure. You may hear/feel it running, but it's quite common for them to be clogged with nasty old brake fluid that restricts flow. Last time I replaced one was about a year ago and they were still available new from MB. You may be able to disassemble/clean/reassemble it, but the rubber seals are not available, so it's a risk that it may leak when you're done.

    Good luck with your repairs

What SG said is my experience also. I've repaired 3 or 4 with success, and had to replace one due to an inoperative motor. It is a simple low-pressure gear type pump. On a couple, there were tiny blobs of corrosion on the gears, and that corrosion was binding the gears to the housing. They all cleaned up easily and did not leak afterwards. YMMV...

Next step would be pulling codes from the ASR module, clearing everything, then checking codes again after the 180-second timeout that turns the ASR light on. The error code should identify what the module is unhappy about.
