New Wiki Entry: CAN Computer Reference Guide

    Folks,

I am starting a new Wiki page ... a comprehensive guide to all CAN and EZL computers.

It is not done yet, and what I have done needs some tweaking, but it is a start at a comprehensive reference.

It will allow you, when you come across a part number (or need a part and need to look up whether it is valid for the 500E/E500 and/or 400E/E420, or both, then this guide will tell you.

    https://www.500eboard.com/forums/wik...mber-Reference

If you have valuable information that can add to the guide, by all means it's a Wiki entry, so you can edit it via the tabbed interface.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

Re: New Wiki Entry: CAN Computer Reference Guide

I have done some additional input to add the E-GAS and EZL references to the Wiki page.

    https://www.500eboard.com/forums/wik...mber-Reference

All entries (part numbers) in blue are original equipment as spec'd for the 500E and E500.
However, as noted in the wiki tables, many parts do interchange between W124 (both .036 and .034 chassis), and R129 and W140 chassis.

I hope this is useful for folks.

I still have some updating to do to add .119.975 (4.2-liter) numbers for the E-GAS and EZL tables, but all tables are complete for 5-liter 119.974 engines.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

I also need to add a last unit, for the Diagnostic Module (DM). Will do that soon.

I added the DM notation to the wiki page. It's the same unit used for all US-spec 500E, E500, 400E and E420 models, for all years. Also is spec'd for one R129 model.

DM units were not used on non-US models.

    Great idea, thanks Honch!

What would also be awesome, it if we had a wiki on parts that are "not" interchangeable between .034's and .036's.

With more and more parts becoming NLA, the .034's become good parts cars.

Re: New Wiki Entry: CAN Computer Reference Guide

A wiki page on parts that are NOT interchangeable between the .034 and .036 would be a near-impossibility to create, and would likely involve thousands of entries -- many quite esoteric. Literally, one would have to go through the EPC screen by screen, part number by part number, to compare the .034 and .036 to see what parts differ.

You are welcome to undertake that, and create your own wiki page on the topic. The beauty of a Wiki is that anyone can create a page and modify someone else's page.

That said, final update on the topic -- I added the three variants of the EZL for the 400E/E420 to the wiki. Interestingly, all three variants of the EZL are available from MB at the current time.

The entries for all of the CAN computers should now be complete, and solidly usable as a reference for when you come across a part number and need to see with what car(s) it is compatible.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

    Hi,

Big thanks for the list of these boxes!

    One addition for EGAS:
    A124 545 26 32 up to indent B840529
    A124 545 44 32 as of indent B840530
Both are valid for Japan and Standard versions, i.e. non USA.

Go ahead and click the edit tab and make the changes. You can use the icons to add rows above or below the point where needed, then fill them in.

I tried to update the wiki but edit button of the the page jumped me to other page. I can create new discussion but not edit the data. Some rights missing?

The edit button jumped me to the main page of wiki where the correct page need to be selected again as well as the edit tab. This confused me yesterday.
Anyway the page is now updated.

Thanks for the update and clarification.

Looks like I neglected to add LH units for the .034, so yet another edit I need to make.... sigh.
