    BOUGHT: 1992 500E MAF

    Hi all,

    I would like to buy a spare 1992 500E MAF assembly which must be in good used condition and tested (not just removed from a junk car)

    It is to serve as a spare for my car.

    Payment via PayPal and shipping required to UK.

    Joe, just FYI... the only valid test for an MAF is installing on a car and viewing live data for airflow, in kg/hr, at various RPMs, on a digital scanner. This isn't particularly time consuming, takes about 20-30 minutes start to finish. The engine will start and run even with a defective MAF that is drastically inaccurate, so a simple "install and start the engine" test isn't adequate.

    This WTB is on hold at the moment as I have one sourced locally which will require testing to ensure in full working order.

    Joe, if I am not mistaken MAF’s from early W140 S500’s 1990-1993 are compatable to our M119.974’s.

    This is correct. Actually, the MAF is interchangeable on all M119.97x (LH-injected) engines in the 124, 129, and 140 chassis. Regardless of year, it MUST have LH injection (.97x)... run the VIN through a decoder and check the engine number if you're not certain.

    The earlier 119.960 (CIS-E) doesn't have any MAF, and the later 119.98x (ME 1.0) uses a plastic-body MAF that does not interchange.

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for that and can I ask does the air cleaner assembly have to be re-installed for testing the MAF? (I have 2x MAF's to test)

    Yes, the air cleaner should be in place. This takes maybe 20 seconds, there isn't much time saved by leaving it off. You aren't un-clipping all the filter latches, correct? With the intake tubes removed, the front lifts up off the spring clips, and pulls forward out of the rear mounts.

    This WTB is now closed. I tested and bought a MAF for my 500E today. Next I need a spare EZL for the 500E!
