Very nice looking 036 and a very nice price for a 94 MY in silver/black with new paint, even without more knowledge of the usual maintenance items IMO.

    Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Black, 153kmi, $18K (Annapolis, MD)

This car was the subject of a "spotted" thread from several years ago.

    https://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6039

In reading that thread, I would expect this car to have a branded title of some sort, since it was a total loss. Seller doesn't mention that.
Car has been repainted. Or Re-repainted, as the case may be. As it was still two-tone, post accident in the spotted thread.
Some of the exterior trim is askew.
I think there's an entire Pep Boys' worth of Armor All coating the interior.
Overall, the car looks very clean, in terms of cleanliness.

Ah, the old VIN-less FS thread.

    Woops.

Seller should address the condition of the Title.

Threads merged. I will be personally seeing this car very soon; I have seen it in the past but not so close-up and personally. It's extremely local to me and I'll give my take after I inspect it. From what I know this is a very good price for the car. The paint is 100% brand new.

The car was in an accident in 2014. I front ended a Honda Accord. No structural damage, but enough for a new grill, bumper, lights, radiator, hood, that quickly added to 11,500 dollars of repairs. State Farm was going to total the car but I told them I was going to repair the car, which I did. They paid me about $8000 and I paid the remainder out of pocket. I did not realize that because of percentage rules at State Farm (repairs exceeded 119% of the value of the car) they call it a Total Loss. I am working with State Farm to remove that designation. The car runs great. You need to see it to believe it.

I've seen this car on several occasions and think it looks stunning. The re-paint was very well done and it has been well cared for by a long-term owner. GLWS!!!

I saw Bill’s car about a year ago with 8899. I didn’t inspect it with a magnifying glass (we were eager to get on a sailboat for the day) but it sure looked nice from a walk-a-round. See post 142 on my owner thread for a picture:

There is nothing to address, with "condition of the Title." -- the title is clean and is not branded. The car has a Maryland title. The seller has addressed the issue of the minor front-end accident the car was in several years ago; it did not suffer any major or frame damage, and things were correctly repaired. The car was repainted, which is obvious from the "monochrome" paint treatment.

I saw this car up close and personal today, as well as drove it.

All I can say is that it is a very very nice example, particularly for the money being asked. A few observations:

    • The A/C is ice-cold (it was ambient temp 85F and the A/C almost froze me out of the car)
    • The interior is very good. Essentially zero wear on the driver's side bolster. All leather VG+ condition. Seats have been treated with leather care agent. Center console wood is good - slightly faded on upper surfaces, and typical minor surface cracks that will require refinishing.
    • Headliner is just starting to sag, but is not bad, and will eventually require refinishing. I've seen MANY cars that are MUCH worse in the headliner department.
    • Sunroof operation is perfect.
    • Engine is strong, runs correctly, idles at the right RPM and pressure, and most importantly RUNS VERY COOL even in high ambients and under load. Car accelerates properly as an E500E should.
    • Transmission reverse engagement is <1 second. By comparison, my own car's transmission with 140K miles on it is ~2 full seconds.
    • Exterior is near perfect, with a year-old paint job that is beautiful and stock color. The paint was done as monochrome, so the bumpers are body color (modernising the look of the car).
    • Wheels are stock and have been refinished/repainted. Extremely minor curb rash, almost not noticeable from the outside unless you look VERY closely).
    • The coolant expansion tank is quite yellowed (typical).
    • Rear windshield has delamination at driver's side outer edge (typical/common; my car has had this for years).
    • The ambient temp LCD display does not work; this will be remedied fairly soon by myself.
    • ZERO clunks/clangs/creaks/groans/noise from the body, interior and suspension. I took the car over a couple of speed bumps and nary a sound.
    • The car has a modern stereo system, with Bluetooth and a setup to sync one's mobular phone to work through the stereo system.

All in all, I think this car is an excellent driver. It's an honest, two-owner car, and Bill has owned it since 2004, so he has all of his own records. He said he bought it in 2004 when it had 49K miles on it. Other than the stereo system, the car is pretty much bone-stock.

I looked at the front end closely, and it was put back together well after the minor accident that Bill mentioned. Everything on the front-end is new - bumper, grill, hood, fans, radiator, fan clutch, etc. The car DID NOT suffer any frame damage or other problems. This was a minor accident and the car has a clean title. Thus, I do not feel that it reduces the value of the car, as things were fixed and the damage relatively minor. The radiator upper support was replaced, and thus it does not have the original yellow emissions and green R134a stickers that a stock car would come with. However everything is correct and the work done well.

If someone is looking for an honest, nicely maintained driver car, with new paint in a GREAT color combo (brilliant silver over black leather), I truly believe this car would be a good deal at ~$25K in today's market.

    Cheers,
    Gerry

The underside is good. This car has rarely ventured onto winter roads, and given a good undercarriage wash if she does.

    ...

The "spotted" thread to which I linked stated that this car had been declared a total loss by the insurance company.

And I believe that if I am interpreting the history of this car correctly, then it has been repainted twice. Once after the accident and then again for the monochrome look.

I have no firsthand knowledge of this car.

    Re: FS: 1994 E500, Silver/Black, 153kmi, $17,850 (Annapolis, Maryland)

Being declared a total loss by the insurance company, and being branded with a salvage title by the DMV, are two different things.

My G-wagen was totaled by the insurance company (before I bought it) literally for having a broken fiberglass rear bumper and damaged mud flap. And it was then branded with a salvage title by the state of California (and then by Texas and then Maryland when I brought it into those states).

No body or mechanical damage whatsoever. I have photos of all damage. They literally totaled a G-wagen because of a broken rear bumper and mud flap. I benefited from this by scooping it up for a small price compared to what it was worth. And it has a salvage title, and I could not care one whit about that.

Bill would have to say how many times the car has been painted, and what parts of it were painted. It appears to me that the latest repaint (the monochrome repaint) was one full car repaint. Anything else, would need to be detailed by the seller.

How many people on this forum own cars that were damaged in a minor fender-bender or accident, and then fixed? I'd bet more than a few. So what if this car had a minor front-end accident? It was not major damage, it was fixed correctly, and the insurance company totaled the car and then Bill got it back and took care of it properly. He's not hiding anything. The Maryland title of the car DOES NOT show that it has a salvage brand, according to Bill. So I don't know what the problem is.

We picked the car from Bill two weeks ago and drove non-stop to MS (about 900 miles), the car ran flawlessly. Bill did an incredible job maintaining this car and it was a pleasure dealing with him. Over the last few days, we have fixed the outside temp display, installed tint, new AMG wheels, changed all fluids/filters, new accumulators, and other minor things. The only thing left is replacing the factory radio once Becker makes it bluetooth ready. The car was at the Euro Fest car show in Ridgeland, MS on Saturday and won best in class. Everyone loved it.
