Note to self...check the lug bolts!

I just had the resonator and muffler replaced on the e320 coupe by a local exhaust shop. On the 2 mile ride home, a noise developed from the rear wheel. Turns out that the rear lug bolts were not tightened on the drivers side wheel. One bolt fell out in my hand when I went to tighten them. Wow...lesson learned. Check the car after getting work done! Going to call the shop tomorrow. Not sure what approach to take. Thankfully I didnít jump on the freeway!!!

thats lucky right there..and good thing you catched it in time

I would approach it like "Did you have the wheels off on my car when it was in the workshop?
The wheels does not have to come off to do the exhaust..but sometimes it makes the accessabillity/visibillity better when doing the work,so i guess you should just ask straight forward before telling them what happened.

i hope it turns out well

Oh dear that's a major oversight and your very lucky you didn't drive far and caught on before the wheel came off.

I know of a case locally some years back where a mechanic did not tighten the wheel nuts on a lorry. Just after leaving the garage a wheel came off on the motorway at speed and the wheel crossed the carriageway striking a car and causing a fatality. The mechanic was jailed as a result IIRC
