Help with part numbers for the "Antinoise capsule" pieces.

    Greetings,

Car is a 1992 400E (180k mi.) and after having spent a good deal of time on the engine and mechanicals I am now transitioning to cosmetic refreshing. Also, thank you to the dedicated members on this site for providing most of the info I have used in the process!

I have searched quite a bit (apologies if I have missed this), but can't seem to nail down the proper parts for the "Antinoise capsule" or splash guards/etc. So far I have deduced that the diesel, gas, and V8 variant w124's have different parts for this system. Also, I have found that the system is comprised of three or four parts (2 side pieces and the underbody splash guard thing, and possibly a rear piece). Using the VIN, I came up with these numbers:

124-524-27-30 Main, front splash guard, under engine
    124-524-20-30 Side, right side panel
    124-524-21-30 Side, left side panel
124-524-38-30 Rear, bottom "sound absorber", (behind cross member?)

If you could let me know if these are accurate and/or available, I would greatly appreciate it. I am mostly interested in the main splash guard, as it appears to also help channel air through the radiator and keep the engine in its proper environment per design. (I also know that there are many/most? who run without this with no harm, but I would like to address this during the cosmetic refresh.) Thank you!

    Cheers.

Re: Help with part numbers for the "Antinoise capsule" pieces.

The numbers you have listed are for the E500E, which use different pieces, different part numbers, unique to the 036 chassis.

For the 400E420 / .034 chassis, you want:

    • 124-524-31-30 Main, front splash guard, under engine
    • 124-524-34-30 Side, right side panel
    • 124-524-33-30 Side, left side panel

There is no rear splash panel on USA-spec cars.
124-524-38-30 Rear, bottom "sound absorber" <--Only used with metal "protective plate" front shield 124-520-38-42, which is specified for Mexico only in North America.

Interesting. Thank you for the help! The catalogue I searched showed the parts I listed as compatible with: "400E, E420, 500E & E500, 500E, E500" lol.

As always, thanks for clearing this up. Hopefully others can use this info in the future.

I assume the "catalog" you looked at was an online part vendor, possibly even an MB dealership.

NEVER, ever, trust online catalogs!! The ONLY valid source for part numbers is the EPC (soon to be replaced by a new system, click here for info). The EPC is available via online subscription (click here) or you can buy bootlegs on eBay to run on your local PC.

Indeed, guilty as charged. Good to know about the EPC replacement.

If you go the bootleg CD route, make sure your computer is a 64-bit that supports Intel VT https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...rocessors.html

Otherwise, it will not work. Also, you will need at least 56GB of free space.

Yes... the EPC + WIS consume a lot of drive space, if you install both. You can get native installers which do not use the virtual PC containers, which I prefer, but they are more complicated to install. I can't remember if the native installers require 64-bit, but they do need a network card and may also need Pro/Enterprise OS (not Home), particularly if the virtual install has a 64-bit OS inside the container.

Re: Help with part numbers for the "Antinoise capsule" pieces.

I managed to get it to work on a 32-bit system. The guy who sells the CDs sent me links to the four files and a 32-bit file extractor after I told him it wasn't working on my 32-bit system. It was going to take weeks for me to download those files with my DSL service so I had to get my brother to download it with his cable and put it on a zip drive. It was a pain but I finally got it up and running. Just in time for them to change systems.

When it's all done, then you find out it won't run on older hardware with 32-bit CPU's, because the muppet installed Windows Home 64-bit as the OS inside the virtual container!
    Managed to cross that bridge.

Jon, no worries, you can use the old system for as long as you want. The "offline" EPC/WIS on your home computer won't be affected. I've been using a 2012 version for years and just recently moved up to 2018, probably one of the last versions of the old stuff.
