No Reserve: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E
This 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E is one of just over 1,500 examples imported to the United States between 1991 and 1994. Built as a collaboration between Porsche and Merecedes-Benz, the model is powered by a 5.0-liter DOHC V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and features unique widened bodywork. The seller acquired this example in May, 2018 and has since commissioned $2,500 in work, including new fuel pumps, steering components, E-gas module, fuel injection module, power steering hoses, and more as described below. This 500E is now being offered at no reserve with a clean Carfax report and a clean Texas title in the sellerís name.
The car is finished in dark grey with light grey bumpers and lower body cladding. Per the seller the car appears to have had some paintwork on the left rear quarter panel, and the rear bumper is reported to be hanging slightly low. Scratches and dings in the paintwork are described and pictured in the gallery. A recent Carfax shows no history of accidents or other damage.
The 500E was assembled by Porsche and features flared wheel arches, revised bumpers, and a lower ride height than other W124 models. Factory 16″ alloy wheels are fitted with matching tires, and the seller notes peeling clear coat on the sunroof, a non-functional right rear window, and some chips and cracks in the windshield.
The cabin is finished in grey with bolstered sport seats specific to the 500E. Wear is visible on the driverís seat, and some cracking is present in the burlwood center stack. Per the seller the A/C and interior power features are working correctly, though the radio is showing a security code message and does not turn on. The speedometer has been repaired during the sellerís ownership. 126k miles are shown, though this total is not believed to be accurate. The 500E features 4-place seating rather than a full width rear bench, and a small storage cubby is provided for rear seat passengers.
The 5.0-liter DOHC V8 is paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and was factory rated at 322 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. Since acquiring this car two months ago, the seller has checked and replaced fluids as needed. The fuel pumps were also replaced, and new fuel filters were installed along with new power steering hoses, center link, tie rods, E-gas module, and LH module. The sellerís mechanic has reportedly confirmed that the original wiring harness has been replaced. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery, showing the floors, suspension components, and driveline.
