It's old enough to allow importing without excessive fees, Ken. (Uh-oh.)

Opened dialogue with Gabs(Nice Guy) in regards to his car and helped highlight someone running a Clone sale scam on his car elsewhere.

It’s now one of two cars I’m interested in, the jap/Ireland car being the other which is a lot quicker to get to and from.

Would you guys be leaning to the pre facelift, higher mileage(226k), low owners with lots of history or leaning towards the facelift, lower mileage(86k), no history prior 2017 car?

Does the facelift command a premium which makes the no history exempt if the inspection is good?

i could see both over a space of time but which should I pursue first??

That's easy. Definitely the higher mileage, two-owner one that has extensive maintenance history.

Was this Irish E500E discussed on the board before? Advert or VIN available on it?

Thanks GSXR, I was starting to be conscious about talking and putting adverts up of other people's cars on sale threads.

Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to ship this little jewel to say um... Port of Long Beach, and what might be involved in doing so? Asking for a friend.

A forum member had a car shipped to the east coast, and documented in his thread everything involved. Foggy memory says a few thousand USD? I don't know the cost to get it directly to a west coast port, but I have a feeling that might be more expensive than delivery to an east coast, followed by truck transport to SoCal.

Oh, the other forum member also imported a Bornite/Black car. Heh.

    Re: FS: 1992 500E, Bornite/Black, 226kkm, €27k (Madrid, Spain)

The below applies to bringing a car from mainland Europe to East Coast Port so I am not sure if this applies to West Coast as I assume you would have to pay more to bring it to West Coast Port (or to East Coast and truck it West, which could add another ~$1500 or more). I got 4 different quotes. They varied widely. The biggest factor is "do you want to do RoRo (roll on, roll off) or Container?". Even comparing apples to apples (RoRo quote vs. RoRo quote) from different carriers the quotes can vary significantly. RoRo is significantly less expensive and is how I would go (unless may it is some multi-million $$ Ferrari). This is how new cars are done (RoRo).

I looked at a lot of companies and I talked to a bunch of people (including multiple US Customs people). To East Coast from mainland Europe here is what I would plan (based on good quote from firm with good reputation): $3,400/$3,700 for end to end shipping + 2.5% of value of the car (duty/import fee) + ~$500 other fees at port. So depending on the value of the car anywhere from ~$4,500 (for a 20K car) up to $7k+ for a much more expensive car. Again, if you had to truck it to the West Coast add to this, however I suspect shipping by boat directly to West Coast port would be less than delivery to East Coast Port + trucking across US. There was a firm's name that came up with a number of different people I asked who seemed to know this business - "John James & Company" in GA that seem very competent and vary fair on price. The $3,400 - $3,700 included pick-up and transportation to European port and then pick up from US customs port and transport to final destination, so even this can vary significantly.

If your friend gets serious, PM me and I can share more - there is one firm that advertises on a the web that is out your way that I would definitely not go with.

The actual Ocean Shipping was significantly less than expected, all the other stuff added up far outweigh that (transport to port, pick up from US Customs and transport to final destination, Customs Duty, Others Customs processing fees). Get a comprehensive quote or there will be surprises. If you find the car you like I would not let shipping costs deter me...say it add's up to $4500 - $5000 all in, negotiate with the seller on price and be frank with them "hey this is going to cost me $4K - $5k to ship the car". They may not care, but it can help in some cases. A Bornite & Black car that is well maintained will make you forget about your shipping costs once you are behind the wheel
