    Gear shifter repair

    Gear Shifter.JPG

    Hi All,

This is the gear shifter off my E500. It operates perfectly but if you look at it closely you will see a burn mark on the clear plastic where the gear number are.

Can this be fixed? Or can I just order the top part of the shifter and replace just that part? Or is it a whole new shifter, If so has anyone got one?

    Cheers!

The top plastic cover comes off and you can remove the film. At one time, you could get these parts separate I don't know if thats still the case.

You may find that the clear plastic piece is the same in the R129. Easy to remove while still in the car.

You can buy the new parts and install them into your current mechanism. It's only available as the assembly shown below.

This is not a general question, and it DOES NOT belong in the FAQ sub-forum. In the future please start new threads in the appropriate sub-forum.

I have moved this thread to the appropriate forum.

    Re: Gear shifter repair

I did the same repair by using nice parts from a parted out 300e. It worked but had I known I could have bought the assembly from MB for $56 I would have done that.
