WTB: Black rubber bumper on center rear view mirror

Looking for one or 2 of the circular black rubber bumpers that go into the small holes on the inside edges of the mirror.

I think those rubber bumpers were only used for a couple of years. Most mirrors do not have them. Photo attached for anyone wondering what we're talking about... I don't think the rubbers are available separately.

Excellent question. I have no clue. Might be why they seem to only exist circa 1993, give or take a year?

Is it possible that they were to prevent cracking the rear view mirror casing or damaging the windshield if accidentally hit?

Thanks for making us aware of that small detail.
While probably not that critical for functionality, I believe that these are good items to be aware of when bring a car to Concours quality.

Re: WTB: Black rubber bumper on center rear view mirror

I could easily be wrong, but I think those may have been the holes for LEDs on cars with radio remote locking, and/or some other similar function. Light receivers for some function? Something related to taxi or commercial vehicle options? Ultrasound emitters and/or receivers for intrusion alarms? In the replacement parts stream, those have been subbed to the 201 part number mirror which has no such holes since like forever. There are some obscure mirrors in the EPC relating to automatic dimming, etc., perhaps not even available as options, but possibly available as accessories. Those part numbers have been “no longer available/can not be supplied“ for at least 15 years now.
Those plugs could even have been there for something having absolutely zero relationship to the 124 vehicle proper. They may have had something to do with storage, manufacturing process, vehicle assembly process, etc.

I snagged two of them off an old broken mirror for you. If you really want them, send me a PM with your ship to address, and I'll send them.
