    Rear Tail Light Assembly

    Hello!

I broke my driver's side tail light last week, ordered and replaced it with a MB new one.

Finding that the remaining passenger side light is really faded, so wanting to make them both match, I phoned to order the right-hand side one only to find that they are NLA!

So - does anyone know of another manufacturer that makes really good ones, or do you recommend me to get as good a second-hand pair as I can and throw away the new left side one?

    Thanks,

    Ian.

I'd get a used set off of a newer car and return the new one you bought. Trying to mix and match will drive you mad as no two cars have the same exposure to the elements.

Ian, do you have USA or Euro-spec tail lights? They are different. If USA, what year do you need (94-95 are different than 86-93)?

    Which part number is NLA?

I had a similar issue the other day, wanting to replace the MOPF1 tail lamps due to fading. Similar to your situation, I also ran up against the fact that the assemblies are NLA, however, the actual lenses are still available, so you might want to consider just getting the lenses.

    Re: Rear Tail Light Assembly

Unless the frame with reflectors is bad, new lenses should be all that's required. The tail light assemblies have 3 main parts:

    1) Outer - lens
    2) Middle - frame with reflectors
    3) Inner - bulb holder / electricals

All three sections have minor differences between years and regions. USA models add a rear corner market that is not present on Euro-spec lamps, so the middle & inner ports are physically different (lens too, but that's interchangeable).
