What do the people in the know think?

Interesting that the lowers were painted but apparently not in 199 to match the body.

Right. Not easy to tell from the photos, but it does look like the lower cladding color is a shade or two off (lighter) than the bumper impact strips which should have come from the factory in 199.

Very hard to tell from the photos posted, but I think the bumpers & cladding may be 199, with the bumper impact strips painted a different / darker color black...?

Could it be the lower cladding is the same colour as the upper body but reflections off the metal vs plastic(??) making it look different?

Unfortunately no – I didn’t even know there was a Jap E500 in Belfast! (There are very few E500E’s here at all; and since I’m in regular contact with the only MB dealer here they tell me any interesting cars that have came in or had parts orders on regarding classics especially since they know I have a 500E)

So it’s unfair of me to comment or speculate on this car since I have never laid eyes on it.

What I can say is that if someone wants an initial opinion on it I could go view it on their behalf if reasonable fuel costs are covered. (Since I am not otherwise inclined to view a car for sale unless I'm in the market myself, which for another E500E I am not at the moment!) I know my way around a 500E from restoring mine and many other w124’s.

It seems to have an interesting 4 piston caliper brake setup in the front.

I can't tell from the pics but that MAY be the stock, late 320mm front brake calipers...?

    Hello to you all,

Self evidently am new to this forum, as is the way of things came across the above posts by accident.

The above car seems to be a bit of a mystery to the more knowledgeable people here but never there less I have purchased the vehicle.

As I get to know more would happily pass on info, I see that primarily its an american web site but if there any British people near Cheshire would love to meet.

    Regards

    Ian

    Hi Ian,

Im new here too but welcome, I was also interested in your car but the lack of history and wear to the front seats just made me wary of the legitimacy of the mileage prior to John owning it. I see the videos of it though, car looks very nice, probably easy to get past those issues when you're standing in front of it.

    Im in the south east.

    Hi Ian,

Welcome to the 500Eboard. It looks like you have picked up a nice looking E500.

You may have accidentally found us but be aware that this is the only website in the world that is dedicated primarily to the E500E. Yes the servers are located in the US but our membership is worldwide. You will not find a website anywhere that can provide you with more info about your car.

If you plan on keeping your new ride for the long haul it would be advantageous to you to start an Owner’s thread on your car.

    Enjoy your new ride.

    Take Care
    Terry

    Hi Ian!

I don't think the exact number of roadworthy E500E's in the UK is actually known, but I believe it is thought to be in the low 20's - so welcome to our fairly exclusive "club"!

I'm near Bath, and given the relative rarity of the E500E here, it's a surprise that there are in fact, another two owners within a few miles of me! However, we might be a bit too far away from you for a meet-up? A little closer to you, there is one in Oxfordshire, and there was one in Lancashire - but we haven't seen him on the 500Eboard recently - so that may not now be correct.

You will find this site an outstanding resource for all things E500E, I know that from personal experience! Although based in the States, it is a truly international community.

We also have our own "guru" for E550E's here in the UK, and if you get really stuck on anything, he's not that far from you - over the Pennines in Northumberland. If you ever want his details, you can PM me on this site.

    Meanwhile, enjoy your car!

    Regards, Stephen

    Hello Raven,

All things being equal there will be one more on the mainland Friday evening, driving back from Belfast via Stranraer to Cheshire 300 miles or so. Of course small distances compared to our American Friends!

Another "Guru" to hand is a good thing but I feel an immense loyalty to Andy at Autobarn who has looked after my 190e and E55AMG. I have found his knowledge and skills without fault, but perhaps as important found him to be a decent man.

I do not think Bath is to far away especially to meet up with 3 e500e owners.Given sufficient notice and the vagaries of life I am sure we can arrange a meeting next year.

Yes, it a wonderfully international forum and so much the better for it, In regards to enjoying the e500 I do not think there is any doubt, am looking forward to a more stealthy car, Whilst I enjoy the AMG sometimes it is a bit loud in all senses. the 190 has spoilt me in that regard.

    Regards

    Ian

Congrats on your purchase Ian! Enjoy the drive home I did the opposite of your trip 2 years ago flying to England and driving my 500E back from Birmingham getting the Liverpool Ferry to Dublin then driving it up home.

It's a memorable trip so take your time and enjoy driving your new beast! Have flexi tickets for the ferry too so if you are held back for any reason you don't have to rush to the ferry docks. Perhaps snap a pic of your 500E with the Harland and Wolff cranes in the background sinve your in the area - would be a nice piece of the cars history

You Guys have no ideas about how close you really are to each other.

Until recently my round trip commute every day was 74 miles and about 3 hour’s of my life.
Whenever I’m in the UK it seems like I can cross the country in a day.
Everything in California is long distances. Someone will correct me on this but the Los Angeles basin is about 400 square miles.

To me driving in the UK and in Europe for that matter seems like a cakewalk.

You Guys should have more GTGs!
    Terry

Re: FS: 1994 E500, Pearl Black/Black, 86kkm, eBay (Belfast, Ireland)

    Hello JC220,

Many thank for the good wishes I thoroughly intend to.
Slightly different route Belfast Stranraer across Scotland down the M6 to Middlewich Cheshire. Would have preferred Rosslare to Fishguard and get a small taste of Eire and Wales I know well but could not get the ting to work.

What an excellent Idea to frame the "cranes" with a 500e will have to see how the time and the glorious British weather holds out.

Silly question Have you bonded with your 500e? Of late been driving an E500 AMG so I would imagine the performance will be much the same but delivered in a less vulgar manner. For all the AMG lovers who may read this I reallly do like my vulgar beast but there is nothing subtle about it, Especially coming from a 190e 2.6 sportline 5 speed.

    Many thanks once again.

    Regards

    Ian

    Hello Terry,

Having lived in Charleston SC and Toronto Canada for sometime I fully understand North American views on distance. Being British I moan about 10 mile round trip commutes!

I found the vastness of America quite disconcerting at first but got to enjoy and appreciate what at first glance seems quite similar cultures but in reality are profoundly different, an excellent time in my life.

Would like to make a GTG happen, will do some homework for next spring summer autumn, How about it fellow e500e owners? Its only a few hundred miles and after all that is what they do best.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, such a change to be part of a civilised forum.

    Regards

    Ian

Indeed, often times it seems like this is the last civilized forum left, regardless of topic.
